Welcome TO TABARD S 15th SEASON! SUBSCRIBE NOW! 2015-2016 SEASON I am quite stunned, surprised, grateful, and humbled that Tabard will be producing its 15th season, starting in September. 15th!!! That is so amazing to me. You know, don't you, that this, truly, could only have happened because you have been the other half of the partnership that makes live theatre the exciting living, breathing experience it can be for both patrons and performers. Thank you! In our 2015-2016 season, each of our six main stage productions will, in some way, look at what Coming Home means. The stories we will be telling will all look at home, each in very uplifting, humorous, touching and/or meaningful ways. And I'm proud to say that half of our season will be new works by local playwrights, some of whom you know. We will also be presenting NINETEEN in three terrific Big Band Christmas Concerts as well as three separate individual concerts throughout the season, each featuring fabulous guest artists, that you can add to your six-show season subscription. Don't forget the opportunity to subscribe at the even-more discounted Early Bird rate is available until midnight May 10th. After that, the regular subscription prices go into effect. Single tickets for all productions and concerts go on sale June 1st. Coming Home Join us for six shows including three world premieres! us Concerts by Pl NINETEEN Jazz Orchestra and Cathy s Birthday Fundraiser Cathy Spielberger Cassetta, Artistic Director Cathy s Bi hday Fundraiser Hard to believe, but Cathy is turning 65 this summer, on August 13th. Join us at Theatre on San Pedro Square on Saturday, August 15th, 2015, as we celebrate the 65th birthday of Tabard's founder and Artistic Director. The festivities start at 5 p.m. with dancing from 8 to 10 p.m. We anticipate this party to sell out quickly, so order your tickets now via the order form later In this brochure. Let s make this a night to remember, so plan now to join us for the fun and give Cathy the gift of supporting Tabard! Nick Nichols, Executive Director www.tabardtheatre.org Tabard s 15th Season! Finding Home World Premiere Going Home Bay Area Premiere homewardbound an orphan train journey........... DEATH Holiday! TAKES A September 18 - October 11, 2015 November 6-28, 2015 Written and Directed by Cathy Spielberger Cassetta (The Duke, the Count & Me; Love, Laughter, & Linguine; Zypora's Passion) From 1854 to 1929 over 250,000 homeless and orphaned children from New York City were sent on trains to 47 states, Canada, and Mexico, to be placed into a home environment. HOMEWARD BOUND follows the story of several such orphan train riders as they journey in 1910 to new homes in the Midwest and beyond ending in San Jose, California. Based in fact, HOMEWARD BOUND is a highly theatrical experience that uses music, movement, and photographs to tell this engaging, gripping, and compelling chapter in America's history. Starring Chloe Allen, Sarah Dorsey, Emily Goes, Samantha Goes, Ginger Hurley, Ashley Wilson, and Joyce Taylor Music and lyrics by Maury Yeston (Nine, Titanic, Grand Hotel, Phantom). Book by Peter Stone (1776, My One and Only, The Will Rogers Follies, Titanic, Curtains) and Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray). Based on the Alberto Casella play and 1934 film. Directed by Karen Altree Piemme. Music directed by Lauren Bevilacqua DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY celebrates life and home when Death arrives at a family's Italian villa just after World War I disguised as a handsome Prince. In this passionate and elegant musical, the Prince discovers for the first time the joys and heartbreaks of life. The 2011 Off-Broadway production was nominated for ten 2012 Drama Desk Awards - including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Book of a Musical, and Outstanding Lyrics. Creating Home Home Front World Premiere World Premiere SWIFT JUSTICE December 4-18, 2015 January 15-24, 2016 Adapted by Hayley Lovgren. Based on the story by Valentine Davies. Like Tabard s 2011 production of It s a Wonderful Life, this production of the heartwarming holiday classic will be presented in the tradition of live radio programs from the 1940s, staged with live sound effects performed by a small cast each playing several characters. Embrace the miracle that happens when Kris Kringle is hired as Macy s Santa and lovingly impacts those who meet Santa that holiday season, and everyone rediscovers what "home" really means. Adding to the fun, before each performance, a special pre-show hands-on demonstration will be presented on the making of sound effects for radio and stage. For all those blasé skeptics who do not believe in Santa Claus - and likewise for all those natives who have grown cynical about New York...let us heartily recommend "Miracle on 34th Street." - The New York Times DECEMBER 6 2pm 13 2pm Based on the book Swift Justice, Murder and Vengeance in a California Town by veteran San Jose Mercury-News reporter Harry Farrell, winner of the 1993 Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime. Written by Tom McEnery. Directed by Karen Altree Piemme. Told through the different perspectives of a handful of people, the play SWIFT JUSTICE is a full-length, multi-actor adaptation of the 10-minute play about the 1933 kidnap and murder of San Josean Brooke Hart, heir to the Hart family fortune, that premiered in Tabard's 10 in 10: Perspective last season. SWIFT JUSTICE was one of the highest-rated short plays voted by Tabard subscribers to be expanded to a full-length play. "A riveting account of one of the most sensational kidnappings in California history...the work of a professional, a reporter who is good with words...and to his credit, Farrell pulls no punches." - San Francisco Chronicle JANUARY 10 4 11 17 18 Christmas Coming Home... 5 3pm 12 15 163/ 17 2pm 19 7:30 3/ 21 22 23 24 2pm www.tabardtheatre.org

Coming Home Making Home February 12-28, 2016 April 8 - May 1, 2016 Music by Harvey Schmidt (The Fantasticks, 110 in the Shade, Celebration). Book and lyrics by Tom Jones (The Fantasticks, 110 in the Shade, Celebration). Based on the play The Fourposter by Jan de Hartog. Directed by Doug Baird. Music directed by Samuel Cisneros. Written by Regina Taylor, adapted from the book Crowns, Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry. Directed by Juanita Harris. Music directed by Samuel Cisneros Spanning fifty years, this charming two-character musical is an intimate and nostalgic look at the ups and downs of marriage and the making of a home experienced by Agnes and Michael Snow. You've asked, and we've listened. We will cap our 2015-2016 season with the return of the rousing, exciting and glorious musical CROWNS, starring Tabard's original 2009 cast strutting their hattitude : Glenna Brambill-Williams, Debra J. Crenshaw, James Creer, Juanita Harris, Tracy Perrilliat, and Paula Warren. Written as a star vehicle for theater legends Mary Martin and Robert Preston, the original Broadway production received seven TONY Award nominations. Irene Trapp and James Creer star in Tabard's production. In this moving and celebratory musical, hats become a springboard for the storytelling and exploration of coming home. About Tabard's 2009 production: "A happy show, generous with charm and lavish with love." -New York World Journal Tribune FEBRUARY "This royalty group belongs to a fast-paced story which takes you through the lives of a group of women with hats displaying their "hattitude." -The Campbell Express APRIL / MAY 8 9 3/ Super Bowl 12 13 3pm 10 2pm 15 16 14 2pm 18 19 20 17 2pm 21 22 23 3/ 24 2pm 28 29 30 21 2pm 26 27 28 2pm Tabard s 15th Season!
