The event will start at 10am. Information about the event (registration, schedule, map, etc.), has been forwarded to members early April 2017. Note that this year s theme will be «Fais-moi un dessin»! Do not forget to book this date on your agenda! Important Reminder For the smooth running of the Committee, it s ESSENTIAL that all its members are kept informed of all information received. Don t forget to pass this LE PASSE MOT Newsletter to ALL members of the Library Committee. A NEW WEBSITE FOR THE RÉSEAU BIBLIO DE L OUTAOUAIS www.reseaubibliooutaouais.qc.ca LE PASSE MOT ISSN 0843 8056 Electronic Legal Deposit: Library and Archives Canada Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec The Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais upgraded its website! It is now more users friendly, dynamic and adapted to mobile devices therefore, allowing users to have fast and simple access to the site at anytime! page 1

The new website is the gateway to access contact information, services and activities of municipal Libraries that are members of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais. In addition, it is now possible for the residents of the municipalities that are members of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais, to subscribe or renew their subscription, online, to their library s services and to request their BIBLIO PIN needed to access the available digital resources. This new website is the first version of a development aimed ultimately at greater interactivity between the library and its subscribers. It is evolving and we hope to offer, over the next few years, new functions that will meet other subscriber needs. ZINIO IS CHANGING The network s popular digital resource, Zinio, will change the name of its mobile application. In the year 2017, the Zinio for Library application will change its name to RBdigital. This will allow library subscribers to download the new app on their tablet or smartphone and thus, access their favorite magazines. We will keep you informed of the time of this change. THE 50 TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RÉSEAU Each day is unique! Each year is a promise of joys and discoveries in the world of culture. Congratulations to the libraries of Plaisance, Fort- Coulonge and Maniwaki / Déléage / Egan-Sud for their 50 th anniversary, to the municipalities for their involvement in the culture sector and to the volunteers who believe in this mission. page 2

You are hosting a library activity? Promote it on the Réseau BIBLIO s website or Facebook page! Do not forget to send us information about all your activities scheduled for this year so we can post them on the Network s website and Facebook page. For this purpose, a writable PDF document named " Library Activity "is available on the Network s Extranet under the " Forms " section. You can also ask us for the form by e-mail and we will send it to you as soon as possible. GROUP TRAINING SESSIONS IN APRIL 2017 Ebooks and digital magazines of Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais Monday, April 10, 2017, from 1pm to 4pm at the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais (2295, Saint-Louis, Gatineau). GROUP TRAINING SESSIONS IN APRIL 2017 SUITE Description: This workshop, hosted by Jonathan Careau, will teach participants how to master the digital book loan and download procedures through the Zinio plateform. During this workshop, we will discuss the various reading materials and their configuration, search in the directory of digital books of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais (hosted on the pretnumerique.ca platform) and search in the directory of digital journals of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais (hosted on the Zinio platform). We will also look into the borrowing and downloading of books and digital magazines, the borrowing procedures on each of the respective platforms (number of documents per user, reservation of documents, etc.) and the various guides and resources available to library users for the configuration of their reading devices and the understanding of the pretnumerique.ca platform and the Zinio platform. Bring your EReader, tablet or your laptop and don t forget your user card and PIN. To register, contact Claudette Deschênes by phone at 819-561-6008 or at 1-800-567-1242 ext. 21 or by email: claudette.deschenes@crsbpo.qc.ca. Book one of these dates in your schedule! LES JOURNÉES DE LA CULTURE SEPTEMBER 29, 30 AND OCTOBER 1 ST, 2017 (www.journeesdelaculture.qc.ca) Les Journées de la culture promotes the artistic and cultural life that is created and expressed in the Quebec towns and villages. In the library, in the municipality, at the park or at the school, culture is everywhere and deserves to be celebrated. Think of participating in the Journées de la culture in 2017 by organizing one or more activities. Inspire your users by your creativity by offering workshops, activities or simply open doors! page 4

FREQUENT ERRORS MADE DURING THE ENTRY OF PERIODICALS IN SYMPHONY Following verifications of the periodicals entered by the member libraries of the BIBLIO de l Outaouais Network in the Symphony software, we realized that library teams when entering their periodicals frequently committed two types of errors. It is first and foremost important to enter " Periodicals " in the " Document Information " tab in the " Type " and " Cat doc1 " sections. Entering this information allows us to compile the statistics at the end of the year. You should also check that the periodical s notice is really a part of your collection. To do this, we recommend that you first search by title by entering the words " p: " followed by your library symbol. With this procedure, you will only have your periodicals displayed in the result and you will only have to choose the periodical desired. Below, an example with the Grand-Remous library: page 5

IMPORTANT When you need to replace the library card for one of your subscribers, we invite you to consult the checklist we have developed for you. Just follow the steps and a new card will be issued. You will find the aidemémoire in the Extranet of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais in the section Guides techniques / Symphony / Version anglaise / Replace a user s lost card. When you replace a library card for one of your subscribers, it is important to forward the following information to the Réseau BIBLIO at the care of Pascal Demers (pascal. demers@crsbpo.qc.ca or 819-561-6608 ext. 27): The user s name, the old user s card number and the new subscriber card number. These changes must also be made on the digital loan platform, otherwise your subscriber will not be able to borrow digital documents. Therefore, it is imperative that you forward this information to the Réseau BIBLIO so that we can make the changes. ACTIVITY TOOLS DISTRIBUTION REMINDER You probably already know that the Network s activity tools (themes, story hours, tents to read) circulate via the two annual exchanges, but did you know that you can also benefit from the meetings (AGM, Libraries Day, Sectorial meetings) and trainings at the Center to exchange them? As these events are scattered throughout the year, this option increases the borrowing opportunities for all libraries. MA BIBLIOTHÈQUE, J Y VAIS (http://mabibliothequejyvais.com/) Last October, the Ministre de la Culture et des Communications du Québec, Mr. Luc Fortin, made a significant gesture for the library community by filing the Declaration of Quebec Libraries, reaffirming the importance and essentials contribution to the social vitality, economic prosperity and cultural richness of our communities life. They are places of excellence for learning throughout life. To consult the Declaration of Quebec libraries: http://www.banq.qc.ca/documents/services/espace_professionnel/milieux_doc/ressources/publications/ Declaration_des_bibliotheques_nov_16.pdf. page 6

THE TD 2017 SUMMER READING CLUB This summer, the libraries of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais will host a youth summer reading club that will be under the theme " Canada s 150 th Anniversary! " Thus, early June 2017, all libraries will receive free materials such as books, bookmarks with Web access code, stickers, promotional gifts to give to young participants at the club, etc... Also, this year we will be holding a regional contest. An ipod will be drawn amongst all participants of the TD Reading Club of member libraries of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais. This project is made possible through a partnership with Library and Archives Canada and the sponsor, TD. IDEAS TO ENLIVEN YOUR LIBRARY Embroidery or knitting in the library Why not invite citizens of your municipality who like to do embroidery or knitting at your library and start group meetings at your library on a weekly or monthly basis? Low s library does it once a week (embroidery, knitting, crochet, quilt, small stitch)! Open doors Organize an " open door " day at your library where all residents of your municipality are invited to come and meet you, to become users, to get informed and to simply relax. page 7

Did you know? The Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais can offer prizes to be drawn among the participants of your library activities and create promotional material for your activities (posters, press releases, promotional campaigns on the Réseau s portal and on your Web page, etc.). SPRING: A GOOD TIME TO CLEAN YOUR COLLECTIONS Spring has given you the urge to clean your collections? Why not start by weeding obsolete, damaged or simply unpopular documents. Do not hesitate to contact us. We have developed tools that can help you in this task. For your information, an annual weeding rate of 6.5 % is recommended; including documents lost or damaged during the year. BOOKMARKS OFFERS Throughout the year, the bookstores of the region are sending us quite a few bookmarks. Libraries that want to get some of them, must contact Claudette Deschênes at 819-561-6008 or 1-800-567-1242 ext. 21. You can also join her by using the following email: claudette.deschenes@crsbpo.qc.ca. Please inform Jonathan Careau (jonathan.careau@csrbpo.qc.ca) of all the local initiatives you made this year in regards to your library management, activities and promotion. We will be able to share them with the rest of the network s members via the Passe Mot. page 8

TO OUR VOLUNTEERS WITH OUR THANKS Goodbye Mrs Chantal Corriveau (director), L île-du-grand-calumet Mrs Stéphanie Michelle Fannon (director), Lac-des-Loups Mrs Shirley Raymond (director), Val-des-Bois/Bowman Welcome Mrs Émilie Joanisse (director), Val-des-Bois/Bowman Mrs Yannick Forgues (assistant director), Saint-André-Avellin LOCAL INITIATIVES The Papineauville library has set up a system of lockers for document loans for users who are not able to visit the library during opening hours. It is a set of lockers (48 lockers with a number padlock) which, the library has received as a donation from a local company. The lockers are located on the outside gallery of the library near the drop box. A user who is not able to come to the library during opening hours can send an e-mail to the Papineauville library to borrow a document (local collection, registered collection or ELL). The library staff makes the loan in the user s file and puts the book in one of the locked boxes. The library staff then informs the user by e-mail that the document(s) has been loaned to him / her, highlight the return dates of the documents and inform him / her of the external locker number and the number to be used to open the padlock. The user can then retrieve his/ her documents according to his availabilities. The return of the documents is done via the drop box according to the due date. REMINDER Windows 8 and Windows 10 are not presently compatible with Symphony. Thus, it is important to avoid installing these Windows version on your library s workstations that are used by your library committee members. If you need help with the purchase or the installation of Windows 7, do not hesitate to contact us. page 9
