Brisbane Sings Messiah A word from the Chorus Master Handel s Messiah is the most popular of all choral works, beloved by audiences around the world for its brilliant choruses and beautiful solos. BRISBANE SINGS MESSIAH provides an exciting opportunity for members of the public who would love to sing in a performance of this great masterpiece but who do not have the time to commit to regular choir membership throughout the year, to join with more than 200 other choristers (including the members of the Queensland Choir), professional soloists and orchestra for a strictly limited rehearsal period to prepare this magnificent work for a performance in the Brisbane City Hall on November 22. Participation is open to all singers aged 16 years and older. There is no audition! However, this is not a scratch performance of Messiah and to be eligible you must be able to attend all the scheduled rehearsals. Prior familiarity with the music and knowledge of music notation will also be an advantage. Please join us for this exciting event! Eligibility for Singer Registration Singers must be 16 years of age and over. Musical Ability No audition is necessary to join the chorus. Singers do not require to have trained voices to participate in this event, but the ability to read music to a reasonable level is important to enable the choruses to be put together in a short time. Singers are encouraged to learn the music prior to attending the first rehearsal in order that the rehearsals can be used to refine the choruses rather than teach notes. Cyberbass provides an innovative learning package for singers that includes The Messiah and is found at www.cyberbass.com. You can hear your particular part on this site. Music You will not sing all choruses but must learn those listed and must provide your own score. Either the Oxford University Press or Watkins Shaw edition of the Messiah is acceptable. For the concert performance your music must be placed in a plain black folder. What Choruses will you sing? As there is limited time to prepare the choruses it will not be possible for the massed choir to sing all choruses. You will sing with The Queensland Choir in the following choruses 4. And the glory of the Lord 9. O thou that tellest 12. For unto us 17. Glory to God 22. Behold the lamb of God 24. Surely 25. And with his stripes 33. Lift up your heads 37. The Lord gave the word 39. Their sound is gone out 44. Hallelujah 46. Since by man came death 53. Worthy is the lamb 54. Amen Other choruses will be prepared by The Queensland Choir. You will be singing with a chorus of over 200 singers.
