The Library Page FAMILY HISTORY MONTH @ THE DEMMER LIBRARY Page 7 of 8 Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah wrote, By searching for our roots, we come closer together as a human family." In 2001, he proposed a resolution to Congress to declare October of each year as Family History Month. The Demmer Library celebrates Family History Month in October by working with the Three Lakes Genealogical Society to hold a Lock-in for members and any other people interested in genealogy and family history research. After the library doors are locked, family history enthusiasts gather for an evening of uninterrupted research and access to the online and print resources available at the Demmer Library. These resources include free use of the subscription based Ancestry.com (Library Edition), Heritage Quest.com, and NewspaperArchives.com. The Demmer Library also has many excellent print resources for genealogy researchers. They are shelved in the Local History Room and all are encouraged to check them out. During October, a sampling of these resources will be on display across from the circulation desk. Listed below are some of the getting started genealogy books available @ the Demmer Library.
