RWBAF 2018 INSTRUMENTAL FESTIVAL Closing date for entries 30 th April, 2018 Sunday 1 st, July at RWB Academy Lime Kiln, RWB, SN4 7HG ADJUDICATOR Andrew Hansford BMus(Hons) MA MMus(Hons) MMus(Cantab) PGCert(OU) ARCM ARCO LRSM LTCL FLCM FRSA (CT ABRSM Mentor) Andrew Hansford, born in Berkshire, UK, holds UK music-degrees from Surrey ((UniS), Guildford), Bristol and Cambridge (St Catharine s College) universities, and with the Open University (OU) (BA (Hons) in Humanities with Music with First-Class Honours and a Postgraduate Certificate in Humanities with Music (PGCert (OU)) with Distinction) in addition to an MMus(Perf) from Bath Spa University (BSU), UK with Distinction in which Andrew specialised in Performance as a piano accompanist, as well as the ARCM, ARCO, LRSM, LGSM, LTCL, FLCM music-diplomas (awarded mostly in piano accompaniment/performance) and the FRSA. A performing classical pianist, specialising in piano accompaniment* relatively early on whilst at school, he is also an organist, a harpsichordist (focusing mainly in accompaniment in both these instruments as well) and a choral singer (tenor). Andrew is an active international ABRSM Examiner (classical/jazz grades/arsm diploma), a CT ABRSM Mentor (piano) and an active international BIFF Music Adjudicator. A committed and experienced piano/jazz piano tutor (at all ages/levels and in a wide variety of different learning-environments since 1990), Andrew is a permanent Visiting Piano/Jazz Piano Tutor with a part-time post at one Oxfordshire independent school, gives piano tuition privately on a consultative/occasional basis, and has been appointed to a part-time Visiting Music Tutor position (in various capacities) at a Music Academy in Oxfordshire, UK. Presently researching for a PhD (in Music) at St John s College, University of Durham, UK in preparation for a UK university Music lecturing-post, Andrew continues to enjoy occasional (advanced) piano accompaniment studies at the Royal College of Music (RCM), London, UK (externally) with Gordon Fergus- Thompson, international concert-pianist as part of Andrew s own ongoing professional development. Andrew has always had a real affinity for both choral and vocal music, nurtured since beginning his musical upbringing as a UK Cathedral Choir School nineyear-old boy-chorister, and he continually takes special pleasure in particularly accompanying choirs, choral-ensembles and singers, and is also one of the resident organists at a local church in Oxford near to where he lives. PLEASE NOTE RWB Arts Festival is fortunate to have the use of facilities at RWB Academy and particularly the 6 th Form Theatre and to have the support of G4S and its staff The Syllabus gives players the opportunity to enter a variety of classes and perform different pieces. The Ensemble section is intended for Ensembles not directly attached to Schools 2

Please see the First Timers and Other Instruments section The Modern section is suitable particularly for players of Classical, Acoustic and Electric Guitars as well as of other Instruments (except Piano which has its own Modern section) Please note that age ranges are changed to match School year groups Piano/keyboard accompaniment please unless stated otherwise for a particular class. Please show on your entry form if you need a Festival Accompanist. Also please show if you wish to use an authorised CD backing track for certain classes In 2014, we included a special section to mark the centenary of the start of WW1. For 2018, we expect there will be many events marking the end of WW1 with the likely climax at 11.00am on Sunday 11 th November 2018. Please think of this when choosing your pieces. SPECIAL TROPHIES The St.Margaret s Preparatory School Cup is awarded for the Highest Mark achieved across all solo Instrumental Classes Instrumentalist of the Year The Pat Davies Memorial Cup is awarded for the highest mark achieved across all solo Music classes by an entrant aged 9 years or under The Chaplin Instrumental Cup is awarded for the Highest Mark achieved by the Ensemble not directly attached to Schools SOLOS & OTHER CLASSES Entry fees: Solos 6.00, Duets 8.00, Ensembles 12.00 Time limit 5 mins unless stated otherwise First Timers Class FTI This is for people of any age who have never taken part in a Festival before and may not have performed to an audience before. You may not be having lessons or may have just started lessons. You do enjoy playing your chosen instrument. You are welcome to use an authorised CD or other accompaniment Please complete the entry form giving as much detail as possible. When the timetable of classes is worked out, we will try to make sure you are given a suitable time according to your age and chosen piece. You will not be marked but will have a certificate and helpful comments from the Adjudicator 3
