Segerstrom Center s June plaza events are full of new activities and performances starting with Summer Jazz on the Argyros Plaza featuring internationally acclaimed jazz artists and hosted by radio personality Bubba Jackson, a Tony Awards Viewing Party celebrating Broadway s biggest night, boot scootin fun during Country Line Dance Lessons and a Country Line Dance Party featuring the Arnie Newman Band, and the pup-friendly Yappy Hour. The summer fun continues with audience favorites: Live Band Karaoke with Casual Encounters and Live on the Argyros Stage featuring David Maldonado and Adam Lasher.
June Argyros Plaza Events NEWS 2/6 Summer Jazz on the Argyros Plaza: The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel Friday, The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel is without question one of Los Angeles most exciting large jazz ensembles today. Powered by jazz drummer Bernie Dresel, this exciting big band delivers a contemporary, highly original sound featuring the witty, intricate, and hard-swinging compositions of established and up-and-coming composers and arrangers. Named Best Big Band Drummer by Modern Drummer Magazine, Bernie Dresel is a snare drum extraordinaire who brings high energy, pace and rockabilly rhythm reminding many of the famed jazz drummer Buddy Rich. Live on the Argyros Stage: David Maldonado Saturday, June 2, 2018 Join us on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza for a free outdoor performance by guitarist David Maldonado. Regarded as a Flamenco Guitar Virtuoso by the Los Angeles Times, Maldonado performs with an exhilarating pace and flair that captures the audience with every note. His latest EP, F.A.M.E.N.C.O., blends flamenco rhythm with reggaeton flow in a soothing, yet exciting way. Country Line Dance Lessons Tuesdays June 5, 12 & 19, 2018 6:00 7:00 p.m. Kick up your boots and enjoy outdoor country line dancing every Tuesday night in June on the Argyros Plaza! Summer Jazz on the Argyros Plaza: Eric Marienthal Friday, June 8, 2018 Southern California saxophonist Eric Marienthal began his career with none other than the great New Orleans trumpeter Al Hirt. He went on to join the Chick Corea Elektric Band, recording six CDs with Corea and winning two Grammy Awards. He has since gone on to perform in more than 75 different countries, recorded 14 solo CDs and played on hundreds of records, films, television shows and commercial jingles. Marienthal has performed with a range of artists like Elton John, Barbara Streisand, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and many others. Tony Awards Viewing Party Sunday, June 10, 2018 7:00 11:00 p.m. Broadway s biggest party comes to the Argyros Plaza! Over the years, members of the ensemble have participated in the California High School All State Honor Jazz Band, Monterey Next Generation Orchestra, Jazz Band of America, Grammy Jazz Band, Reno Jazz Festival All- Star Combo, and the Southern California School Band and Orchestra (SCSBOA) High School Jazz All- Star groups. From American Idol to the Argyros Stage, Lasher is a Berklee-trained musician who offers a soulful voice and a thrilling ability on guitar. It s a familiar sound for Adam Lasher, who shares the stage with his uncle, Carlos Santana, from time to time. Summer Jazz on the Argyros Plaza: Danilo Lozano and Cuba LA Opening with Dayren Santamaria and Made in Cuba Friday, June 22, 2018 Flute soloist, musical director, record producer and educator, Danilo Lozano performs both innovative and accessible music by Latin American, African-American, Latin Jazz and Cuban composers as well as rarely heard pieces of the classical and contemporary repertories. He is the son of noted Cuban musician Rolando Lozano and has been described as a fresh new voice of outstanding ability and rare musical sensitivity. Cuban-born violinist Dayren Santamaria is the daughter of a musician father and an actress mother. She opted for a musical life and began to study violin at the age of 8. Today she has her own band, Dayren Santamaria and Made in Cuba with some of the best musicians in Los Angeles, including Oscar Hernandez (piano), Jimmy Branly (drums/timbales), Joey De Leon (congas/vocals), and Carlitos Del Puerto (bass). Her musical vocabulary encompasses classical, jazz, R&B, salsa, and Cuban folkloric. Santamaria is praised for her passionate renditions of works on both acoustic and electric violin.

The Ron Kobayashi Trio featuring Andrea Miller will open for Matt Forbes and his Vintage Pop Orchestra.
