How to make a question A question is an expression used to make a request for information. There are many different ways to form questions. We will look at two kinds of questions. One is called a yes/no question and the other is called a WH-question. Question Yes/No question WH-question 1- Yes/No question: A yes / no question is a question that can be answered with yes or no. *There are three steps for yes/no question: 1- If there is only one verb in the sentence and it is a verb to be, simply switch the position of the subject and the verb. subject v. to be e.g. She is clever. Is she clever? subject v. to be They are good friends. Are subject they good friends? v. to be Ramy was sick. Was Ramy sick? 2- If there are two verbs in the sentence, switch the positions of the first verb and the subject. Subject first verb second verb e.g. They were watching a movie. Were they watching a movie? Subject first verb second verb e.g. Her sister can sing well. Can her sister sing well?

Subject first verb second verb e.g. She had waited for Tom. Had she waited for Tom? Subject first verb second verb e.g. He should clean his room. Should he clean his room? 3- If there is only one verb in the sentence and it is in the past tense, we will use Did at the start of the sentence and change the verb to its base form. verb in the past e.g. She washed the dishes yesterday. Did she wash the dishes yesterday? verb in the past e.g. He drank a cup of tea two hours ago. Did he drink a cup of tea two hours ago? If the verb is in the present tense, we will use Do or Does at the start of the sentence and change the verb to its base form. Does Do he she it I they we you verb in the present simple e.g. She sleeps early every day. Does she sleep early every day? i.e. if there is only one verb in the sentence and this verb ends in (s), we will start the question with Does. If there is one verb in the sentence and this verb is in the present tense without (s), we will start the question with Do. e.g. They play football every weekend. Do they play football every weekend?

Exercise Underline the correct word between brackets: 1- (Do Can Are Is) Maged angry? 2- (Was Is Can Does) you help me, please? 3- (Was Did Could - Do) you see him yesterday? 4- (Should Does Were Do) he paint the wall? 5- (Are Were Was Can) she your teacher?
