UPCOMING EVENTS Y7&8 movie PREVIEW SHOWING THE INCREDIBlES 2 Sunday 17 June 2.45pm Berkeley Cinema Mission Bay MOVIE NIGHT Friday 22 June 5pm and 7pm School Hall SCHOOL BOOK FAIR 2-6 July School Hall PTA meeting Wednesday 4 July 7.30pm Staffroom MAMMA MIA 2 Wednesday 25 July 7.30pm Berkeley Cinema Mission Bay PTA CONTACT CHAIRMAN: Steve Sutherland chairman@shspta.school.nz VICE-CHAIR: Liz McNally info@shspta.school.nz SECRETARY: Amanda Henton secretary@shspta.school.nz TREASURER: Jan Bliss treasurer@shspta.school.nz NEWSLETTER: Marie Guibert-Soehadi communications@shspta.school.nz stheliers.school.nz/en/pta June 2018 FROM THE CHAIRMAN Greetings to all in the St Heliers School Community. It appears winter has arrived with a vengeance and, sadly, bad weather meant we had to cancel our planned Lantern Walk in May. Many thanks to Jan and Jane for doing all the work for what was going to be a fun event and then ensuring everyone received a refund in the following week. On a very positive note, check out the new PTA-funded library furniture which has just arrived. Sincere thanks to Matt Skilton and his team for an additional couch which has been donated by Placemakers. With a cold, wet winter well and truly upon us, it is the perfect weather for movies, and we have the best movies ever coming up in June and July. For the first time, we have a Year 7&8 exclusive senior s movie. The PTA has booked out an entire theatre at Berkeley Cinema Mission Bay this Sunday 17 June, for a preview screening of The Incredibles 2. On 22 June, the PTA will host a movie night for all our school families in the Hall. Rug up (we promise to have the heaters on), grab a bean bag and bring any and all of your children along for the junior movie Paddington 2 and the Year 5-8 family movie Wonder. But wait, there is more! We have a special screening for parents of Mamma Mia 2 at Berkley Cinemas on 25 July. You can book tickets for all of these events online through your child s Kindo account. And do not forget to check out the School Book Fair, which runs from 2 to 6 July. In August, we will be funding the return of Brett Lee to the school for his presentations to both students and parents on internet safety and security. We are currently working on sponsors to support Brett s visit and will have more details on dates shortly. Finally, planning is already under way for next year s School Fair in Term 1. We will advise the school project we are raising funds for very soon, but this is our biggest fundraiser by far and we would like to invite 6 parents now to be part of the Lead Team organising this event. We need volunteers who are able to donate a couple of hours per month up to the end of the year and then a few hours per week in the lead up to this amazing event. Every dollar raised goes towards improving the school for your children, but without parent support, we cannot make it happen. Please contact Craig McCarthny, Liz McNally or myself if you would like to be involved or know more, and if you have any items that would be good for the White Elephant sale, please put them aside now for the School Fair. Steve Sutherland Chairman June 2018 Page 1

St Heliers School Book Fair coming soon In the last week of this term St Heliers School will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair. The Hall will be the centre of all the action with a wide range of books available for purchase. All the children will have a chance to visit the fair and come home with their wish lists to give you some shopping inspiration. The fair will be open each morning before school from 8.30-9.15am and then again in the afternoon from 2.45-3.15pm. We will also be open all afternoon until 5pm on Thursday 5 July whilst the Parent-Teacher Interviews are on. There will be some special events happening during Book Week. On Tuesday 3 July we will be holding a Boys Book Breakfast. Starting at 7.45am, this is an opportunity for the boys at the school bring along a significant male in their life (Dad, Grandpa, Uncle...) and share in the world of books. Enjoy a hot drink and a muffin and then listen to our guest speaker Rob Southam talk on ways to inspire a love of reading in boys. A couple of surprise speakers will be there as well. RSVP s are essential to the School Office by Friday 22 June. Wednesday 3 July will be an opportunity for students and staff to dress up as their favourite book character for our book themed mufti day. Plenty of time to start planning the outfits! Hope to see you all there. Amanda Campbell Library Manager Thank you to PlaceMakers who kindly donated a couch for our library. Mission Bay Doctors We practise Quality Family Medicine.
