Amaya Instrucr contact: Cell: 95-32-823 / Email: Jenny@musiconthepage.com Course Description: This course is a hands-on introduction Sibelius Music Notation Software. Students will receive instruction on computer and Sibelius basics, including score creation, copying and editing, MIDI transcription, advanced playback features, and part preparation. Emphasis will be on learning keyboard shortcuts and defining personal house styles improve the look and function of the students scores, as well as the speed at which they create them. Prerequisite: A basic understanding of musicianship, computers, and musical notation. Goals & Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able :. Compose and orchestrate their music using Sibelius. 2. Create professional-quality musical scores quickly and efficiently. 3. Create lead sheets and chord charts. 5. Record demos of their notated music from within Sibelius. 6. Create personal score styles and templates. 7. Use Sibelius compose picture. Required Materials: None Suggested/Optional Materials:. Sibelius Software (Professional Version 6) 2. External File Srage Device (Flash Drive, Hard Drive, CDs, DVDs) GRADING Grading Policy: Final grades will be based upon attendance/participation, homework assignments, and timed tests. Following is the point distribution for the final grade: Attendance/Participation (0 points per class) 20 Homework Assignments (8@ 00 points each) 800 Timed Tests (2@ 40 points each) 80 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total Points Possible: 000 Attendance: Students are expected attend class each week. Because of the limited amount of time and lab access, there will be no makeup lessons for any reason. Students who miss class are responsible for acquiring and learning the materials that they have missed. Absences may be excused by the instrucr for serious reasons only. Work-related absences are not valid excuses. Points will be deducted for every unexcused absence (0 points per class period missed). Partial points may be deducted for tardiness and being underprepared (see participation ). Participation: Students are expected keep up with the pace of the class. They are expected practice all skills learned, and be ready use those skills at the next class period. Failure keep up with the pace of the class will result in a lowered attendance/participation grade. Homework Assignments: The weekly homework assignments are designed insure that the students are keeping up with the materials that have been presented them in class. It is the student s responsibility complete these weekly assignments outside of regular class time, and turn them in on or prior their due date. Absolutely no late assignments will be accepted for any reason! Timed Tests: There will be two timed tests, one in week #6, and another in week #2. These tests will measure basic note and text entry, and basic formatting. Students will be graded based on content and execution. There will be no make-up timed tests! If a student plans on being absent during week #6 or week #2, they will need contact the instrucr ahead of time make alternate plans for taking the exam. Final grades (for the 2 weeks) will be based on the following percentages: A 89.5-00 B 79.5-89.49 C 69.5-79.49 D 59.5-69.49 F 59.49 and below A grade of C or better is considered a passing grade. Certificate students must take 400 level courses for a grade. Please note that ALL COURSE GRADES ARE FINAL. Information about Incompletes: The interim grade Incomplete may be assigned when a student's work is of passing quality, but a small portion of the course requirements is incomplete for good cause (e.g. illness or other serious problem). It is the student s responsibility discuss with the instrucr the possibility of receiving an I grade as opposed a non-passing grade. The student is entitled replace this grade by a passing grade and receive unit credit, provided they complete the remaining coursework satisfacrily, under the supervision of and in a time frame determined by the instrucr in charge, but in no case later than the end of the next academic quarter. At that time, the Registrar will cause all remaining Incompletes lapse the grade "F". Note: Receiving an I does not entitle a student retake all or any part of the course at a later date. Student Behavior involving cheating, copying other s work, and plagiarism are not lerated and will result in disciplinary action.
