CONDITIONER TERMINAL BLOCK 8 ISOLATED ANALOG INPUTS STB 582 Eight 3-port isolated analog inputs INPUTS / OUTPUTS / POWER SUPPLY Protected inputs Levels from ± 50mV FS to ± 40V FS Low-pass 2 nd order filter (CF to be defined) Logic "Error" outputs Cold junction compensation for thermocouples J, K, T, E, R, S Conditioning and linearization of 3 and 4-wire platinum sensors A single wide range power supply ( 10V - 36VDC) Easy to mount on a DIN RAIL Designed to meet signal conditioning issues in an efficient way, the STB 582 terminal block can be used for HIGH- and LOW-level analog input acquisition. The 3-port isolation eliminates ground and common mode issues. The STB 582 terminal block also provides cold junction compensation for thermocouples, along with conditioning and linearization for platinum sensors. Thanks to its versatile design, it is a valuable tool in industrial environments, where conditioning costs may be a concern. Digital outputs for out-of-range or loop-error conditions. The STB 582 terminal block is a CMS, small-size, new generation of the STB 282, and is fully compatible with the latter. 9 rue Georges Besse BP 47 78330 FONTENAY LE FLEURY FRANCE Tél.:(33) 1 30 58 90 09 fax:(33) 1 30 58 21 33 http://www.adas.fr

Chapter A Presentation The STB 582 is a conditioning terminal block providing eight analog inputs, isolated from each other and from the outputs. It has been designed for industrial environments. 3-port isolation provides a protection against grounding and common mode issues. >>>Note: The STB 582 terminal block is a new product generation. It replaces the STB 282, launched in 1989. In addition to providing full functional compatibility with the previous model, the STB 582 features the following advantages: size reduced by 12.5 % CMS technology «Open collector» logic outputs, warning of out-of-range conditions and indicating the defective channel a wide range power supply from 9V to 36VDC A.1. Wiring and interconnection Please consult this heading on our web site or on our CD Rom. 5
Chapter B Operation The STB 582 terminal block conditions the analog signals delivered by sensors, and provides galvanic inter-channel isolation and isolation from the power supply. It comes in various versions, that are described hereunder. Channel customization can be performed by mounting a 28-pin module (one module available for each version). B.1. Voltage versions There exist 9 «voltage» input versions. The only difference is the maximum input level : (cf chart : HOW TO ORDER?) Please make sure to select the cutoff frequency meeting your application. As a matter of fact, implementing the V8 (± 20mV FS) CF (1000Hz) option may be very difficult. Input impedance is 1MΩ. Connections are as follows: Pin arrangement Voltage to be measured I + - Shield GND ISO Straps on SX00 : No strap on SX00. >>>Important note: Inputs are differential type. In single-wire mode, IN (-) has to be connected to the considered channel GND ISO as indicated on the above drawing. 6
B.2. Current versions #Δ ed. 4 & 5 [ #Δ ed. 4 & 5 ] There exist 4 «current» input versions. Input impedance is 50Ω. VERSION RANGE TRANSFER FUNCTION BA BB BC 0/20mA 4/20mA ± 20mA 0mA = - 10V ; + 20mA = + 10V 4mA = - 10V ; + 20mA = + 10V - 20mA = - 10V ; + 20mA = + 10V BD 4/20mA 4mA = 0V ; + 20mA = + 10V Pin arrangement I + - Shield GND ISO Straps on SX00 : Version SX00 BA «H» BB «H» BC OFF BD «H» 7
B.3. Platinium sensor There exist 5 ranges for platinium sensors, and two linearization coefficients: L = - 50 to + 50 C A = - 50 to + 100 C B = - 50 to + 250 C C = - 50 to + 400 C D = - 50 to + 800 C α1 = 0.00385 α2 = 0.00392 (Only version α1 = 0,00385 is used in Europe) A «3-wire» or «4-wire» connection is used. The constant current applied to the probe is 1 ma. The offset potentiometer adjusts the bridge s balance. The gain potentiometer sets full scale value. The linearization resistance compensates probes non-linearities. 3 wires Pin arrangement 4 wires Pin arrangement PT100 I OUT Strap IN (+) IN (-) I OUT IN (+) IN (-) GND ISO GND ISO SX00 : "G" SX00 : "H" 8
B.4. Thermocouples The thermocouple-based versions depend on: The type of thermocouple used The temperature range considered The STB 582 terminal block then performs: Cold-junction compensation Open loop detection #Δ ed. 6 [ The cold junction compensation range is 10 C à 40 C. It is provided through a silicon sensor located near the connector to be screwed (LT 1025 mounted on a support). B.5. Silicon sensor The STB 582 terminal block is used to condition AD590 sensors. The connection is as follows: Pin arrangement I AD590 + - GND ISO Straps on SX00 : SX00 : H B.6. Filtering The STB 582 terminal block is made of two filters: A second-order filter located in the isolated section, that is customized as a function of the chosen model: F0 = 5 Hz F2 = 50 Hz F4 = 500 Hz F1 = 10 Hz F3 = 100 Hz F5 = 1,000 Hz A second-order filter located in the non-isolated section whose purpose is to reduce the noise generated by the isolation amplifier. 10
B.7. All-or-nothing outputs The STB 582 terminal block features 8 all-or-nothing outputs (one per channel), that indicates out-of-range measurement conditions. The signal is activated in case of a (+) or (-) 10% overflow. The output structure is as follow: + 15V Red Del "Error" output activated at low level GND 11
Chapter C Implementation The user should read carefully the general instructions for use of ADAS products. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR IMPLEMENTING ADAS PRODUCTS INSTRUCTIONS GENERALES DE MISE EN OEUVRE DES PRODUITS ADAS The frame must be turned off before plugging in the product. #Δ ed. 5 & 6 [ C.1. Power supply The STB 582 terminal block requires a 24V nominal (9V to 36V DC). A continuous converter ensures the galvanic isolation of the outputs and provides the voltages used by the amplifiers. 3 green LEDs indicate the presence of voltages : + 15V at the input ; + 15V and - 15V at the output of the converter. 2A time-delay fuse Power supply presence (+) (-) Power supply Shield (earth) #Δ ed. 5& 6 ] Power supply return current Note : In 24V version, the consumption is 0.3A 12
C.2. Analog inputs The STB 582 terminal block features 4 pins per channel. I + - = current sourcing output to platinium sensor platine = isolated no reversing input = isolated reversing input GND ISO = isolated ground from the channel considered Please refer to section B for wiring information in relation to the model chosen. I OUT V IN (+) V IN (-) GND ISO C.3. Straps and settings Each channel features a set-up block labelled SX00 A to H. The position of each strap is a function of the customization module and must not be changed. Settings PRX00 = Gain PRX01 = Offset 13
