1.0 INTRODUCTION The DVI-7350 HDMI Fiber Optic Extender is compromised of a Transmitter (Tx) unit and a Receiver (Rx) unit. Together they enable the transmission of HDMI signals with or without HDCP (High Bandwidth Content Protection) at distances up to 100 meters (330 ft.) without any signal degradation. This makes it an ideal solution for applications where an HDMI signals must be routed long distances from the source without introducing artifacts in the image. Our professional video conversion products have been serving the industry for several years. DVIGear offers a full line of high quality Video Scalers, Scan Converters, Analog-Digital Converters and DVI/HDMI Converters, as well as Signal Switchers and Distribution Amplifiers. 1.1 Liability Statement Every effort has been made to ensure that this product is free of errors. 4.0 INSTALLATION This product consists of a Transmitter (Tx) unit and a Receiver (Rx) unit. The Tx unit must be connected to the HDMI output port of the signal source (such as a DVD Player). The Rx unit should be connected to the HDMI input port of a digital display. The high-speed HDMI signal components are routed from the Tx unit to the Rx unit using four (4) multi-mode optical fibers with LC connectors (see the picture below). Each unit has four (4) optical ports which are marked with the nomenclature 1, 2, 3 and 4. Connect each strand of the fiber optic cable to the corresponding number on both the Tx and Rx units. Both the Tx and Rx units have a single DDC port. Use a standard CAT5 cable of the appropriate length to link these two ports. Take care that the CAT5 cable is not routed near any source of RFI/EMI interference, such as high current AC power lines and/or AC motors or industrial machinery, as these items may induce noise into the DDC signal line that can adversely affect the product s performance. -4-
4.1 Connecting the Input Optical Cable DVD Player UTP Cable or Set-top Box Copper HDMI Cable Digital TV or Projector 1. Power OFF the Source and Display and detach the power cord from the AC wall outlet. 2. Connect one of the supplied 0.5 meter HDMI cables to the output of the Source device. 3. Connect the other 0.5 meter HDMI cables to the input of the Display. 4. Connect the Tx unit to the HDMI cable attached to the Source s output port. 5. Connect the Rx unit to the HDMI cable attached to the Display s input port. 6. Connect the Fiber Optic cable (4x LC connectors) between the Tx and Rx units taking care to ensure that the optical ports are connected properly: (1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and 4 to 4). 7. Connect the UTP (CAT5) cable to the DDC ports both the Tx and Rx units. 8. Connect the External AC Power Adaptor to the Power input port of either the Tx and Rx unit. 9. Plug the External Power Adaptor into an outlet that supplies the AC voltage specified on page 3. 10. Connect the AC power cord for the Source and Display to the AC wall outlet. 11. Power ON both the Source ad the Display; an image should appear on the display within a few seconds. -5-
5.0 TROUBLESHOOTING If the system fails to display a signal, power OFF all devices and check that the following connections are properly installed: The Tx unit must be connected to the Source with the supplied 0.5 meter HDMI cable. The Rx unit must be connected to the Display with the supplied 0.5 meter HDMI cable. All four (4) strands of the fiber optic cable must be routed to LC connector port with the corresponding number on both the Tx and Rx units. For example, Strand #1 must be connected to Port 1 on both units; Strand #2 must be connected to Port 2, and so on. The DDC ports on the Tx and Rx must be connected by a good quality UTP CAT5 cable. This cable should be kept away from sources of high RFI/EMI interference. The External AC Power Adapter should be connected to either the Rx or the Tx unit. Check to ensure that the Power indicator LED is illuminated on both units. If this is not the case, check or replace the UTP CAT5 cable connected between the Tx and Rx units. Once all connections have been verified, power ON the monitor first, then the HDMI Fiber Optic Extender, and then finally the HDMI signal source. If the system still fails to display an image, check to ensure that the HDMI signal source is compatible with the display by making a direct connection between the two so as to bypass the HDMI Fiber Optic Extender. If there is still no image then there is a compatibility issue between the source and the display that must be resolved.
