However, the mode(s) of WSSV trnsmission in shrimp frming systems nd the epidemiologicl consequences re not well understood. In this study, moleculr mrkers hve een used to nlyse the spred of WSSV within nd etween frms in Viet Nm for two different frming systems: improved-extensive nd semi-intensive. Smples were periodiclly otined from twenty improved-extensive shrimp ponds nd twenty-three semi-intensive shrimp ponds pplying different smpling schemes. PCRgenotyping ws employed using three WSSV moleculr mrker loci: the vrile tndem repet regions (VNTR) in ORF75, ORF94 nd ORF125 (GenBnk AF369029). An nlysis on the comined results of ll three VNTR mrker loci mde it possile to follow trnsmission pthwys of WSSV in the respective shrimp frming systems. The trnsmission of WSSV infection on improved extensive shrimp frms ppered minly due to the recycling of WSSV over time in the sme pond, wheres in semi-intensive shrimp frms trnsmission of WSSV ws minly from neighouring ponds.
