FINANCIAL LITERACY SUNDAY MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES Sunday, October 2, 2011 Cecilia Olusola Tribble, Member of the Young Adult Lectionary Liturgists Team Worship Planning Notes Be sure to include the theme of financial literacy and/or some of the following key words: Financial literacy lessens poverty and is part of showing God that we are faithful stewards. Also be mindful of the Scripture lessons: Proverbs 14:23 and Proverbs 28:20. This service can be coupled with or be the culminating service for church-wide financial planning seminars. Have intergenerational discussions about living within your means, tithing, and saving. Brief testimonies of successful financial turn-arounds in your congregation can be shared during the service. During the altar call, the pastor or another minister can cut up paid off credit cards, shred paid off bills, etc. 1. Instrumental Prelude Spoken or Sung, Call to Worship, or Litany (a) God Is Alright!
What a mighty God we serve! Let us give praise to the Lord of all creation. The time has come... the wait is over. Stand up and celebrate the goodness of the Lord with me. Many: God is Alright! Remember the people that have gone before us. Ancestors, friends, preachers, teachers, and prophets have told stories about the goodness of the Lord even though many of them had nothing. They lifted up praises and ascribed glory and majesty to the Lord who sustained them. Many: God is Alright! In all the earth there is none like you, Lord. Mighty are your works! Your handiwork makes this world marvelous. Many: God is alright! Praise be to God on high who is worthy of all glory, honor, and majesty! (b) We Will Call upon the Lord Tell me, where will you turn when you re caught by temptation? Many: We will call upon the Lord! Tell me, what will you do when people deceive you and put you down? Many: We will call upon the Lord! Tell me, how will you make it when pain and heartache bend you and bow you? Many: We will call upon the Lord! Tell me, how will you feel when you come out of the wilderness leaning on the Lord? Many: Our souls will be happy! We will shout all day. The Lord God, mighty in power, will bring us out! All: Whether we have come out of the wilderness or still find ourselves in the midst of it, we will lean on the Lord. For our help comes from the Lord, who made haven and earth! We praise God whose steadfast love endures forever. 2. Hymns and Congregational Songs (a) Count All the Costs. By Gilbert E. Patterson
