DataSAT ACU-2 Controller Wiring Configuration - Operation This manual covers basic wiring, antenna controller configurations, and typical operation. For proper operation, wiring and configuration are very important. Please read the following pages to insure a smooth startup of this Antenna System.!!! Warning!!! This Antenna System has multiple PINCH and CUT points that during installation and operation can result in severe injuries. There are hinging and moving parts that move during installation that can fall due to gravity. Become familiar with the antenna before installation and insure that everyone working around this antenna is aware and alert of the dangers associated during installation and operation! 303-ACU2-24(16) Operation Manual 8 April 2017 1

Follow typical installation procedures recommended by the vehicle manufacture to secure the RF Mogul System to the vehicle. Wiring (rear panel) 24 VDC Power Supply Antenna Control Cable Ethernet (LAN) RF Out RF In DataSAT ACU-2 1RU Antenna Controller has five connections on the rear panel. External 24 Volt DC Power Supply Antenna Control Cable wiring for the 12 POS Euro Style Connector 12 - Tan GPS RX Data In 11 - Pink 15 to 18 VDC out to GPS 10 - White GPS and Counter Input Common (Ground) 9 - Gray Skew Count In 8 - Purple Elevation Count In 7 - Blue Azimuth Count In 6 - Green Skew Motor Volts 5 - Yellow Skew Motor Volts + 4 - Orange Elevation Motor Volts 3 - Red Elevation Motor Volts + 2 - Brown Azimuth Motor Volts 1 - Black Azimuth Motor Volts + For installation convenience, the Antenna Control Cable can be shortened to facilitate installation. We recommend keeping the cable length at least 15 long if possible. It is wise to keep an additional 3 feet of cable behind the antenna controller for access and service when needed. 2

Ethernet (LAN) RF In and RF Out - Cables LAN and RF (coax) Cables are not supplied. Cat5 LAN cable is sufficient to connect the Antenna Controller to your router or switch. RG6U with solid bare copper center conductor and Dual shield rated to 3GHz is our minimum recommendation. Use 3GHz rated compression type female F Connectors to terminate the ends. Check with your Modem supplier for proper types of cables they may recommend. Typical Connector Box on DataSAT Antenna - Roof Mounting Plate A. Antenna Control Cable Connection. Labeled RX. C. TX Cable to Modem (if installed) or HPA Out. To BUC White RG-6 Coax Cable. Labeled TX. If additional assistance is required to connect an external Modem and Router to this system you should contact your Bandwidth Service Provider (ISP) and/or find a local IT Technician for assistance. RF Mogul may be able to provide some limited assistance on some systems when basic wiring and network configurations are used. Because many companies require additional securities on their networks our assistance will be limited. System Wiring is complete. 3

Configuration Once the System is installed and wired properly the Antenna Controller is ready for setup and configuration. Correct configuration is the key to successful operation. You will need to connect the Antenna Controller to a Computer to configure the system or you are planning on interfacing the Antenna Controller to an idirect or Hughes Modem a connection is required. Even though the ACU-2 is a Stand-Alone Antenna Controller which does not require an Ethernet connection to operate and find a satellite, there are too many possible configurations that may be required that would be too time consuming to set up on a 2 Line LCD Display. These settings are LNB LO, RF Frequency Band, Receive Polarity, DiSEqC and Tone settings, along with many others. NOTE: If an Ethernet connection is not possible you could also set up the configurations by removing the SD Card located on the rear of the controller and modify several configuration files. This type of configuration is risky and could corrupt other files used in normal operation. Please contact RF Mogul if this type of setup is necessary. Turn on the ACU-2 Controller Power (Rocker Switch illuminated) located on the front right side of the controller. The LCD display should power on as shown below. Open a Web Browser. Enter the Controller IP Address. The default is 192.168.1.250. IF you cannot access the Antenna Controller using this IP Address you can find the current IP Address using the Menu Functions from the Front Panel. (see LCD Menus below for more information) If you still have problems connecting you can bypass the router/switch by using a LAN Crossover cable and setting your computer Network to 192.168.1.1 Once you are in the Antenna Controller you will be able to change the controller IP Address in Network Settings. 4

System Status default page when opened thru browser 192.168.1.250 The ACU2 Antenna Controller HTML pages will follow a similar format as shown above. This is the Main Page which will allow you to access a full Satellite Table in both H and V receive fields, manually move the antenna in all 3 axis (Elevation, Azimuth, and Skew (polarity), check certain Modem Status configurations (Hughes and idirect), and to Configuration files that allow set up of Modem, LNB, and Network settings. Configuration Options 5

Move the mouse to highlight Configuration then select Network Settings. The Network Settings page, above, allows you almost full function TCP/IP Network Access. For typical setup, you might modify IP Address and the Default Gateway and Subnet Mask. If you have several RF Mogul Systems, you can name each system by changing the Device Name. The Device Name will be viewable in the Top Frame of every HTML Page under the Satellite Antenna Controller. (see above) If additional security is required the IT Administrator can lock this system down with Network Name, User Name and Administrator Password. Before exiting this page if a username and password have been added you should document these changes for future requirements. After all changes are completed re-verify the modifications and then select the APPLY located in the top right of this page. The system should return to the Main Status Page after updating. 6

Move the mouse to highlight Configuration then select RF Settings. The RF Settings page, above, must be configured correctly for the Antenna to find Satellites. Check the LNB specifications on the LNB Label attached to the Feed Assembly of the Antenna. You should find LNB Voltage, LO Frequency, and RF Bandwidth. If the LNB is Dual Band see Advanced LNB Settings in Detailed Configuration Information later in this document. IF LNB Volts gives a range of 12VDC to 24VDC, use the 18 V LNB Power option 22KHz Tone = Disabled DiSEqC = Disabled Enter LO Freq in MHz (example 10.75GHz = 10750 MHz) see above Enter RF Band Low Freq (example 11.70~12.20 GHz = 11700) see above Enter RF Band High Freq(example 11.70~12.20 GHz = 12200) see above IMPORTANT! Polarity must stay HORIZONTAL. Do not change this setting. See H-V Field Detail in Detailed Configuration Information later in this document. After all changes are completed re-verify the modifications and then select the APPLY located in the top right of this page. The system should return to the Main Status Page after updating. 7

Move the mouse to highlight Configuration then select Search Settings. Typical Search Settings when connected to an idirect X5 Modem. When using an idirect X5 Modem your Service Provider (ISP) will be able to provide you with the Modem Address, Username, and Password. You will also need to know the Receive Polarity. Enter this information into the fields above. It MUST be correct or the Antenna Controller will not see the Modem. Contact your ISP or IT Manager for additional support concerning the Modem setup. See Advanced Search Settings for additional Information and setup. After all changes are completed re-verify the modifications and then select the APPLY located in the top right of this page. The system should return to the Main Status Page after updating. 8

Move the mouse to highlight Configuration then select Dish Calibration. Select Start. A Dish Calibration is required one time to complete installation and configuration. Once completed the System is ready for use. Operation - HTML Move the mouse to the Search Arrow to begin Search. 9

Select Search. A Search for the correct satellite will begin. The following screens will show a typical search progression. Depending on Satellite Location, Search Type, and number of adjacent satellites a typical search will range from 4 to 7 minutes. If there are a lot of adjacent satellites that do not have identifiable carriers search time will increase. Try different search modes in Search Settings to see what is optimum for your system. 10

If you are experiencing Search and Lock issues, please call 801-895-3362 during normal business hours (9:00 AM to 6:00 PM MST) or email support@rfmogul.com. You can also Skype test.rfmogul Search Completed (idirect X5 Modem shown). Once completed the System is ready for use. Operation Front Panel Once the ACU-2 Antenna Controller has been wired and configured it can be operated from the Front Panel to Search (primary satellite only), Stow (place dish into travel mode), and through Menu functions manually move the Antenna, and test Antenna Sensors. ACU-2 Antenna Controller - Front Panel Search Stow LCD Display Menu Volt/Amp Main Power 11

The following LCD Display Screens will be typical during a Search for the Target Satellite. To begin a search from the Front Panel, press on the Green Search Button on Left Side of Panel. From the Front Panel the current software does not allow selection of different satellites in the Satellite Belt. Search from the Front Panel is currently limited to the Primary Satellite that was selected using the HTML Search Settings. Future Versions of this software will offer a Full Satellite Table through the LCD Menu s. 1 begin search 2 searching in target mode 3 peaking on a signal 4 testing different satellite ID s 5 testing another satellite ID 6 no satellite ID resuming search 7 peaking on another signal 8 testing satellite ID s 9 ID ed satellite now moving to target satellite 10 peaking target satellite 11 optimizing target (Main) satellite 12 Peaked and Locked on Satellite Once Search has completed the Antenna should be pointed and ready to use. If you are using a Satellite Modem with this system, there may be delays in use due to the Modem synchronizing with the Satellite NMC (network management center). Delay times for TX Lock will vary. If you are experiencing Search and Lock issues, please call 801-895-3362 during normal business hours (9:00 AM to 6:00 PM MST) or email support@rfmogul.com. You can also Skype test.rfmogul 12

If the ACU-2 HTML page does not come up you can confirm the controller IP address by using the Front Panel Menu commands. These are the Power/Menu, Search/Up, and Stow/Down buttons. Pressing the Power one time when the Controller is already on will enter the Menu Mode. Press the Down button and step until MENU 9: is displayed. Press the Power/Menu button one more time to see the Controller IP Address. End of Document. 13
