Croisements 2018: Art is you 68 programs to revive May 68! Kitano, David Lynch, or Cai Guo Qiang and Che ri Samba. At the same time, Storage Memory by Christian Boltanski will present the first retrospective of an immense artist of the French contemporary scene. Finally, the famous French artist Philippe Ramette will inaugurate his first exhibition in China at the Xie Zilong Museum of Photography in Changsha. M. Kruszewski As always, the Croisements Festival remains faithful to its original aim: to encourage and develop encounters between the artists and cultural institutions of our two countries, and to provide a space in which their mutual creativity can flourish. For the thirteenth times and with more than 19 million spectators since its creation, Croisements highlights all areas of culture. Visual arts, theater and dance, classical and contemporary music, cinema and literature: sixty-eight programs will be presented in 30 cities in China. This year, Chinese personalities from culture s world, support and sponsor the Croisements festival. The actress Zhang Yuqi, the composer Tan Dun and the writer Liu Zhenyun will be the three protagonists engaged to celebrate the French creation and the French- Chinese artistic «crossroads». Claude Debussy Photographie de Philippe Gras Agnès Varda is the guest of honour at the 15 th Panorama of French cinema. At the age of 88, she embarks on an ultimate trip to Asia, which will take her to Beijing and Shanghai to introduce to the Chinese public, a subtle and profound work. As always, some «unclassifiable» items will also be on the bill: the contralto and conductor Nathalie Stutzmann who, with her ensemble Orfeo 55, performs the remarkable feat of simulataneously singing and directing works by Vivaldi, Scarlatti and Lully; the France Human Beat Box champions, Berywam, who give a spectacular demonstration of the scope of the human mouth; and Sarabande, a duo featuring cellist Noe mi Boutin and tightrope walker Jo rg Mu ller performing Bach s Suites for unaccompanied cello. 2018, spring of two anniversaries This year also marks the time of two major anniversaries in French cultural and political history: the centenary of Debussy and the fiftieth anniversary of the events of May 68 in France. The illustrious urban aphorism «it is forbidden to forbid!» will revives this utopian movement that liberated the speech and the imagination of the French people. The exhibition, Art is You! designed by Eric de Chassey and embellished with films and lectures will return to this movement that has inspired new ideas and animate new sensibilities. On the occasion of the centenary of the famous composer of Clair de Lune, Claude Debussy, musicians and artists will pay tribute to the radical novelty of a work at the crossroads of emotion and play. An exceptional lineup of performers (Philippe de Chalendar, Vanessa Wagner, Zhang Liping, the actors and musicians of Mr. Croche, the Phile as Quartet, Marie Vermeulin and the duo Ja te kok) will pay tribute to the art work of Claude Debussy, whose sensory harmonies preempted jazz and some of the most daring contemporary works. The true story of Ah Q, the fruit of the meeting between the directors Michel Didym and Yi Liming adapts to the theater a great classic of Chinese literature; the musical meeting of two musicians of the French and Chinese scene, Serge Teyssot- Gay and Xie Yugang will discover a hybrid universe during a Chinese and French tour that announces the release of an unreleased album! Representations of the adaptation of the novel Snow of the Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk by Blandine Savetier or the latest revelation of the festival of Avignon, Saigon of Caroline Guiela Nguyen will stage «History with a big H», as Georges Perec wrote, the shock of individual aspirations and collective tragedies. Spotlight on contemporary art This year, Croisements put the spotlight on contemporary art. At the Shanghai Power Station of Art (PSA), the Fondation Cartier pour l art contemporain will present the exhibition A Beautiful Elsewhere, a collection of 100 emblematic works of the international art scene, including names such as Jean-Michel Alberola, Romain Trouble, Takeshi Photographie de Philippe Gras La ve ritable histoire de Ah Q, de Lu Xun, mis en scène par Michel Didym Goodwill ambassadors for this year Zhang Yuqi A former student of the Shanghai Conservatory in the Chinese Traditional Opera section, this famous actress has become known for her role in CJ7, which launched her film and media career. Tan Dun Chinese composer and conductor, Tan Dun won a film Oscar and a Grammy Award for his composition for the movie Tiger and Dragon. Goodwill ambassador of UNESCO, he has led many international tours. Liu Zhenyun Writer, Liu Zhenyun won the Mao Dun Literature Award in 2011 for his book En un mot comme en mille. Six of his books have been translated into French, of which four have been published by Gallimard.

It seeks to arouse our emotions via fundamental questions concerning destiny, luck and fate. The exhibition s impressive layout deals with what defines and distinguishes the human race: each individual is unique and will be replaced. Boltanski s questioning of the meaning of life is centred on the twentieth century s great tragedies of mass extermination and the remnants of the disappeared: their memory and their remains. He ceaselessly questions the injustice rained upon the victims of man s destructive impulses. This approach and its profound enquiry is nevertheless without pathos. Today, there are hundreds of versions of The Rite. But while Stravinsky s score has remained, the choreography has disappeared. Dominique Brun examines this contradiction and draws astonishing creative energy from it. Sacre #197 is a creation that invites six dancer/ choreographers to invent a solo inspired by a series of drawings of the time recording Nijinsky s sacrificial dance. Sacre #2 is a historic reconstruction based on firsthand accounts, annotations, Stravinsky s scores, photographs and sketches. Musique classique et contemporaine Jazz et musiques actuelles Debussymania Concert for two pianos by Jean-Franc ois Zygel and Hugues Lecle re French electro Sounds of New Wave A playful musical joust of epic proportions between two French pianists, Hugues Leclère and Jean-Franc ois Zygel, this concert combines Claude Debussy s most well-known pieces with solo and duet improvisations. As a pianist, Debussy devoted his life to improvisation and interpretation. As a young man, he was knocked back after failing to receive a piano award from the Paris Conservatory, leaving his mother devastated. He then went into teaching, accompanying and... improvisation! Without this change of direction, he would probably have never written his famous Pre ludes. To mark 100 years since the composer s death, Hugues Leclère and Jean-Franc ois Zygel take inspiration from this art of the moment where music surges forth from imagination. The outcome of a collaboration between the Mao Live network and Bureau Export de la musique franc aise (international promoter of French music), Mao Live Stage will be a part of Croisements 2018 for the first time. Mao Live Stage is deeply engaged in electronic music, considering France to be a world leading electro nation. From this, there came the desire to create a project together, a platform that brings French groups to perform in China.
