Biographical Note Paul Trueblood is a pianist and musical director based in New York whose work has focused on cabaret, Broadway, popular songs, and standards. He has worked with a range of artists including Michael Feinstein, Julie Wilson, Carol Lawrence, Anita Ellis, Earl Wrightson, and Betty Comden and Adolph Green. He also worked as pianist for lyricist Alan Jay Lerner, and director, Joshua Logan. In 1996-97 he accompanied Marianne Faithful on a world tour supporting their CD, 20th Century Blues, consisting of songs by Kurt Weill. Trueblood also serves on the faculty of the annual Cabaret Conference at Yale. 2

Scope and Content Note The Paul Trueblood Papers consist almost entirely of printed music along with some libretti and other on-stage dialogues. The music is made up of score manuscripts that are various popular songs and show tunes arranged for piano and voice or for combos of about 6 to 10 pieces. Most of the music appears to have been arranged, probably after 1980, for a vocalist by the name of Anita Tovich; her name appears at the top of virtually all the arrangements. There is also a series of published sheet music including several of the songs that appear among the arrangements along with other varied titles including church hymns and pop songs. There are no other business or personal papers in the collection. Organization The collection is organized into 3 series. They are: Series I: Production materials, undated Series II: Arrangements, undated Series III: Published music, 1893-1977 Series Descriptions Series I: Producation materials, undated 1 box Arrangement: Alphabetical by title The series of production materials contains scripts and libretti, set lists, lyrics, and miscellaneous notes for productions and arrangements. Productions include Amerika, Broadway Babes (Broadway Tonight), and untitled shows. Series II: Arrangements, undated 3 boxes Arrangement: Alphabetical by composer The Arrangements series contains scores that appear to have been orchestrated for vocalist, Anita Tovich, as virtually all of the scores in the arrangements series bear her name. It appears that her name was shortened from Vujatovich for the stage, otherwise it is unclear who this person was. The arrangements are scored either for a vocal with piano accompaniment, or for combos consisting of about 6 to 10 instruments. Some titles consist only of a lead sheet, others contain scores with parts. Series III: Published music 1 box Arrangement: Alphabetical by composer The series of published music contains sheet music, mostly photocopied, some of which has been marked with notes for performance or arrangement. 3
