Super Audio CD Transport Super Audio CD Transport rear view Newly advanced VRDS-NEO mechanism supported by a highly rigid body construction. Esoteric's CD/Super Audio CD system features PCM to DSD conversion functionality in addition to a PCM up-convert function. Digital audio output PCB with PCM to DSD conversion PCB on its top. Highly rigid integrated one-piece body style containing separate power supply and transport compartments The integrated separate-chassis construction is based on the same design concept of the P-01. The ESOTERIC flagship P-01 transport features an external power supply unit which provides ideal high-purity DC power with ample reserves. The power supply unit within the new model is based on the same design concept of the P-01, featuring a separate power supply unit integrated into a one-piece chassis design. The transport unit features a highly rigid internal chassis to support the high-mass mechanism. The isolated power supply unit features two transformers; one for the mechanism/motor drive and the other for all signal processing. The transformer for mechanism/motor drive is a WB transformer, providing excellent instantaneous current power to the system. The transformer for signal processing is an R-core type which has very low magnetic flux leakage and vibration. Thick aluminum front panel, side panels, top panels and front-corner rounded block covers complete the integrated chassis which is supported by a 5 mm-thick steel bottom chassis and three pinpoint isolation feet (patent pending), made of quenched steel. The approx. 30 kg (66 lb.), highest mass design ESOTERIC has ever produced, offers highly precise mechanical mounting and highly rigid / non resonant chassis construction. CD digital audio output features DSD conversion function in addition to PCM signal up-conversion. The can output up-converted digital audio signals and a high precision crystal clock oscillator reduces jitter within the signal path. The up-convert function offers maximum fs 176.4 khz digital signal transmission. (DSD/1 bit 64 fs signal for Super Audio CD is directly transmitted without up-conversion.) In addition to this function, the features an all new PCM to DSD signal conversion mode for standard CD playback. You can choose the most suitable digital conversion from a wide range of options to match your personal taste, the variances in the recording source, the category of music and to your other components' response characteristics. Digital signal transferring of Super Audio CD DSD - equipped with i.link interface in addition to ESOTERIC's proprietary ES-LINK format. Super Audio CD DSD format signal is output from the XLR terminals by ESOTERIC's proprietary ES-LINK format or output from i.link (IEEE1394) interface. The unit outputs a DSD signal automatically by ES-LINK when the unit is set to XLR DUAL output mode. ES-LINK-capable D/A converters are the ESOTERIC and D-01 only. The i.link connectivity is also known as IEEE 1394 or "Firewire", an international specification. / is already i.link (AUDIO) capable. By connecting other i.link (AUDIO)-capable devices to the IEEE 1394 (or i.link (AUDIO) terminal on this unit using an i.link cable, you can transmit Super Audio CD multi-channel signals that can be transmitted in their original digital format. i.link is also capabile of transmitting 2-ch linear PCM data and multi-channel compressed audio signals. If you have multiple i.link-capable devices, you can connect them through other devices to transmit data between them. Data transfer rate There are three transfer rate standards: 100 Mbps (S100), 200 Mbps (S200), and 400 Mbps (S400). The / system is capable of transferring data at a maximum 400Mbps or S400. For connection to an i.link-capable device, use ESOTERIC "Stressfree 8N Cu" i.link cable series or a commercially available S400-compliant 6-pin i.link cable. Word Synchronization The new transport features a WORD SYNC input terminal to synchronize it's operation to the D/A converter, by use of the incoming external WORD clock signal. The can operate with 44.1/88.2/176.4/or 100 khz clock signals. The can operate using the ESOTERIC original 100 khz Universal Clock signal. The incoming ultra-stable clock signal produced by external components such as the G-0s Rubidium master clock, effectively reduces jitter and prevents signal phase shifting. This ball bearing system supports a smooth and precisely controlled turntable rotation from low speed to very high speed. The features a newly developed Disc Tray Shutter mechanism. When the disc tray is closed, this shutter seals the front tray opening. As a result, the shutter shields the internal mechanism, reducing any mechanical vibration induced by external noise sources such as loudspeaker sound pressure. Ultra-high-precision turntable system When a SACD or DVD disc is played, the higher-speed rotation required causes increased and unwanted vibration. The VRDS-NEO turntable precisely supports disc rotation, so adverse effects during high-speed rotation can be minimized. High-speed rotation also necessitates that the spindle shaft be more rigid than in the past. The turntable, which may be considered the heart of the VRDS-NEO mechanism, is supported by high-precision, highly rigid mechanical components. Coreless motor with no rotational irregularities Esoteric has developed a long-life three-phase brushless spindle motor for high-speed rotation. Development of the magnetic circuit, consisting of a neodymium magnet, was completed through numerous tests and scientific validations, including magnetic field analysis. The optimized magnetic circuit minimizes rotational irregularities in the motor and makes it possible to reduce fluctuations in the motor drive current, thereby lessening any adverse effects on audio circuits and other areas. Duralumin turntable During Super Audio CD or DVD playback, the maximum rotational speed is 4.5 times greater than the rotational speed during conventional CD playback. In order to ensure that the turntable can handle this high-speed rotation, Esoteric selected duralumin as the turntable material. This material is best known as body material used in aircraft. Esoteric has developed new technology for processing this material into lower mass with higher dimensional precision. As a result, the enables ultra smooth turntable response and stable data acquisition properties by preventing disc vibration. The turntable is dyed black in order to absorb any diffused reflection of the laser from the pick-up device. Rigidity and precision are significantly improved by the use of highly precise ball bearings in the spindle shaft bearing assembly A pair of precise ball bearings are used in the spindle shaft bearing unit and a pre-load is applied to the bearing inner rings to significantly reduce potential for rattling and shaft shaking during use. This dramatically increases the precision of the bearing unit and greatly improves rotational and positioning accuracy. The pair of ceramic ball bearings supports smooth and precisely controlled turntable rotation from low speed to high speed. Interfaces for various digital input formats The can operate various digital input formats such as S/PDIFÅAAES/EBUÅA ES-Link and i.link, and is compatible with various source formats including CD, SACD and DVD-A. The can operate as high as 192 khz for sampling digital source inputs from all interfaces including the DUAL AES interface. Complete sound quality without compromises using know-how ESOTERIC has accumulated for over 20 years. The is equipped with three high efficiency R-core transformers which have low magnetic flux leakage and vibration. One is for digital processing and two are for analog processing. The stabilizer circuit for the analog power component is completely discrete. The driver circuit which outputs the converted analog signal using a discrete design and discrete components drives transistorized and FET components at +/- 38V power. There are many advantages to designing the analog circuits discretely. Discrete design allows an acoustic engineer to choose component parts and circuit layouts based purely in the interest of providing better sound quality. The also features a digital filter OFF mode. You can choose to have digital filtering on or off, according to your own musical taste, to match the source signal or to more closely match the characteristics of your system. ESOTERIC improved the former PCM-only RAM-Link circuit to cope with both PCM and DSD signals. Incoming digital audio signals are temporally stored in this new RAM-Link circuit, the jitter is reduced by an internal high precision master clock, and then transmitted to the D/A converter circuit. (This RAM-Link circuit is only activated when the system is operated in Word Sync mode.) Word Synchronization function with other digital components in the system.
