V5.0 2/21 02/12/2003 I.Introduction This document describes the EGYPTSAT Two Way system installation and configuration. The installation of equipment transmitting to satellites is today regulated by regulations in several countries in the world and by the satellite operators themselves. The DVB-RCS members are working to establish a type approval for the DVB RCS systems. EGYPTSAT intends to use such a type approval body when established to certify the terminals. It is expected that such a type approval will focus on functions and misbehaviour related to transmit timing, frequencies and power, due to the fact that a misbehaved terminal can reduce the quality of the satellite services for other terminals. Functions in the terminal that halt the transmission or restart the DVB-RCS logon sequence in given situations, as well as forced logon initiated from the gateway, are of great importance. The design, implementation, and test of the EGYPTSAT DVB RCS system including the terminal have great focus on preventing misbehaviour of the terminals and related functions to minimise the damage, if the terminal, or the system, is not working properly. In this way, the installation of the DVB-RCS terminals should be performed by trained installers. The set-up has to be organize like this: Set up by the only trained installer: II.1 Package Delivery Control II.2 Antenna Installation II.3. Transceiver Installation II.4. IDU Installation II.5. IDU Configuration and Line Up system Step 1 to 23 Set up by the installer and Technical Center on the phone: II.5. IDU Configuration and Line Up system NON-DiSEqC ODU: Step 15.A DiSEqC ODU: Step 16.B

V5.0 3/21 02/12/2003 II. Procedure The procedure for the installation is simple. The only thing is to follow-up step by step the procedure. II.1 Package delivery control Please, open all boxes and control with the following list if you received everything*: One IDU box with IDU Box Yes No Power cable Yes No Ethernet cable Yes No Material for rack mounting Yes No User manual Yes No One amplifier box with 1 amplifier (different, following power) Yes No One LNB / Orthomode box with 1 LNB / Orthomode box Yes No One Antenna box with Different, following models Yes No Warning: *: Following that you order to EGYPTSAT.

V5.0 4/21 02/12/2003 II.2 Antenna Installation Find a suitable site Align the antenna on the satellite Eutelsat W1 10 E Help for antenna installation: Carriers on this satellite (L-Band): 1723MHz - Vertical - Low Band: EgyptSat carrier 1237MHz - Horizontal - Low Band: NTV analogue (Turkish channel) 1265MHz - Horizontal - Low Band: Digital carrier Very Important: The antenna installation and pointing must be VERY PRECISE and FINE, it s CRITICAL. II.3 Transceiver Installation II.3.a Mount the Amplifier, the Orthomode/LNB and the antenna feed together. II.3.b. Install the ODU system on the antenna. II.4 IDU Installation II.4.a Warning Follow these guidelines when working with electrical equipment: Disconnect all power and external cables before installing or removing a EGYPTSAT IP Router. Do not work alone when potentially hazardous conditions exist. Never assume that power has been disconnected from a circuit; always check. Do not act in any way that creates a potential hazard to people or makes the equipment unsafe. Never install equipment that appears damaged. Carefully examine your work area for possible hazards such as moist floors, unearthed mains extension cables and missing protective earths. Should an electrical accident occur: Be cautious do not become a victim yourself. Turn off electrical power to the system. If possible, send another person to get medical aid. Otherwise, assess the condition of the victim and then call for help. Determine if the victim needs artificial respiration or external cardiac compressions; then take appropriate action. IDU installation without rack: Place the EGYPTSAT IP Router on a stable, flat surface such as a desktop or shelf, close to the PC or network device to be connected. Keep the bottom, front and rear of the EGYPTSAT IP Router unobstructed to ensure adequate airflow and to prevent the unit from overheating. The EGYPTSAT IP Router rubber feet provide enough clearance when the unit is placed on a flat, hard surface. Ensure that there is at least 10 cm clearance at the rear of the Router.

V5.0 5/21 02/12/2003 IDU installation with rack: Follow these precautions when installing your EGYPTSAT IP router in a 19 rack. Warning: The rack or cabinet should be adequately secured to prevent it from becoming unstable and/or falling over. Devices installed in a rack or cabinet should be mounted as low as possible, with the heaviest device sat the bottom and progressively lighter devices installed above. Cautions: Make sure that the power source circuits are properly grounded, then use the power cord supplied with the router to connect it to the power source. If your installation requires a different power cord than the one supplied with the router, be sure to use a power cord displaying the mark of the safety agency that defines the regulations for power cords in your country. The mark is your assurance that the power cord can be used safely with the router. When installing the switch, note that the AC outlet should be near the router and should be easily accessible in case the router must be powered off (if the power switch is not reachable). Ensure that the router does not overload the power circuits, wiring, and overcurrent protection. To determine the possibility of overloading the supply circuits, add together the ampere ratings of all devices installed on the same circuit as the switch and compare the total with the rating limit for the circuit. The maximum ampere ratings are usually printed on the devices near the AC power connectors. Do not install the router in an environment where the operating ambient temperature might exceed 45 C. Make sure the airflow around the sides and back of the router is not restricted.

V5.0 6/21 02/12/2003 II.4.b Front Panel Power Error Satellite Ethernet LED Description Indicates the unit is powered Lights if an error event occurs Receive: Lights when Rx connection is always ON. Transmit: Lights when Tx connection is always ON. V5.0 7/21 02/12/2003 II.4.c Back Panel Power switch Power Connector COM 1 Ethernet Node / Hub External I/O Rx Tx LED Description The power switch is used to turn the power on (1) and off (0) for the unit. The power switch may also be used to restart the unit. The unit is connected directly to the 110-240 VAC power outlets with a standard power cable included in the delivery package The COM1 port is a 9-pins RS232 connector for connection of the CLI interface to a computer serial RS232 interface (communication via Hyperterminal). The Ethernet connector (RJ45) is used for IP traffic to connect to a PC, Ethernet switch, IP router etc. 10BASE-T or 100BASE-T modes are detected automatically. Selects HUB or NODE configuration of the SatLink 1900 IP router Ethernet port. When using a straightthrough Ethernet cable NODE shall normally be used when connecting to an Ethernet switch or Ethernet HUB, while HUB is used when connecting directly to a single PC.
