Prize-winners concerts Prizes for Visual Arts & Design will be awarded at the opening of the art exhibition on Tuesday, 22 May 2018 at PJ Olivier Art Centre. Drama prizes will be awarded on Friday, 1 June 2018. Venue to be confirmed. General information and rules 1. The closing date for entries is Monday, 19 February 2018. Late entries (at double the entry fee) and corrections or changes to names and/or categories will be accepted until Friday, 23 February 2018. Please note that the reprint of certificates will be charged for at R25 per certificate. See number 5. 2. Entries will open on the website as of 22 January 2018. Only the 2018 electronic entry system may be used. No entry form on paper will be accepted. All questions with regard to the new electronic entry system must be addressed via e-mail to admin@stellenboschkunswedstryd.co.za. 3. Only electronic or bank payments will be accepted. No cash or cheques will be accepted. The deposit slip or proof of payment must accompany the entry. Use the reference number which the online entry system issues as reference when making payment. 4. Please read the information for the section carefully and make sure that participants are registered correctly. See number 7. 5. Participants names and surnames must be spelled accurately to ensure that they are printed correctly on the certificates. 6. Each section s timetable with information regarding adjudication times, venues, participant numbers, etc. will be published on the website. Each teacher/coach must verify their information and inform us timeously should changes be required. 7. Age means the age of the participant as on 1 January 2018, regardless of the grade of the participant. 8. No person may enter for the same category more than once.( except for duo, trio and quartet) 9. A specific piece, prescribed or own choice, may not be presented in more than one category. 10. No candidate may present a piece for which he/she has previously received a certificate/prize from the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod. 11. Timing (that includes set-up) must be as accurate as possible. Kindly refrain from exceeding allocated times. Exceeding the time limit will be penalised.please see suggested time frames below: a. Primary School Solo Items: Max. 4 min b. High School (and older) Solo Items: Max. 6 min. c. Concerto (1 movement): Max 15 min d. Concerto (2 or more movements): Max 45 min e. Concert programme (2 items): Max 12 min f. Concert programme (3 items): Max 18 min g. Ensemble: Max 10 min h. Choir and Orchestra (2 works of contrasting style period) Max 12 min (set-up time excluded) 12. No provision can be made for a candidate to practise beforehand in the relevant venue. Exceptions are made for organ candidates who can directly liasse with the organizer to arrange a time. No warm-up rooms are available, except for choirs and orchestras. 13. Participants must provide their own requisites, music stands and instruments, except for organ and piano candidates. Chairs are provided. 14. Management reserves the right, without prior notice, to change dates and venues. 15. Entrance fees for non-participants are charged at the Endler Hall as well as other venues. 16. Prize winners and invitations for participation in prize-winners concerts will be published on the website after the completion of the Eisteddfod. 5

17. Participation in the prize-winners concerts is determined by the highest percentages (as awarded by the adjudicators) in the various sections. The management of the Eisteddfod aims to compile a balanced programme. 18. Participants who were invited to participate in the prize-winners concert and who are absent without an excuse, lose their prizes. Suitable concert dress is required. 19. All the participants and their school/institution/private teacher should abide by the rules of the Eisteddfod. Adjudication 1. The adjudication of all categories will take place during April, May and June 2018. 2. Information regarding the place and date appears at Programme 2018 as well as in each separate section s syllabus on the webpage. 3. Only in exceptional cases will participants be adjudicated outside their categories. 4. The adjudicator s decision is final. 5. No communication with the adjudicator(s) will be allowed. 6. If there is interference with the adjudicating process, a participant may be disqualified. 7. No recordings may be made of the adjudicators feed back. 8. Copies of the specific piece(s) presented, must be handed to the adjudicator before the performance. The adjudicator may write comments on these copies. Copies are destroyed directly after the performance. 9. The Stellenbosch Eisteddfod does not condone the unlawful copying of sheet music or any other published material. Prizes 1. In addition to the trophies, medals or money prizes that are presented to special achievements in certain categories of each section, certificates are presented to each participant as follow: 90% and higher Cum laude 85% - 89% Gold Plus A+ 80% - 84% Gold A 75% - 79% Silver Plus B+ 70% - 74% Silver B 60% - 69% Certificate of Participation 2. A list of trophies, medals or money prizes is available at each section. 3. Only participants that took part in two or more categories will be considered for trophies or prizes. 4. Trophies remain the property of the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod. 5. Trophies will be returned directly after the prize-giving function. Prize-winners will receive a medal which they can take home. 6. The awarding of prizes is decided solely by the Eisteddfod Committee in consultation with the adjudicators. No enquiries in this respect will be accepted. 7. Trophies do not have to be awarded. 8. Engraving on the trophies will be done by the Eisteddfod Committee. 6
