Coming Home ~ the 200 th Anniversary CeleÁation Sunday, September 18, at 10:30 a.m. G reetings, We are excited to announce the 2016 17 Church Street UMC Master Arts Series, a musical celebration of the church s 200th anniversary. This year, ALL our guest artists have a close connection with Church Street UMC many are past or present members, singers or staff. The series will begin with a Service of Choral Evensong involving four of Knoxville s downtown churches. Evensong will be followed by a festive dessert reception/ birthday party in Parish Hall. The highlight of the series will be the return of Dr. Joe Miller to conduct the Parish Adult Choir, soloists and Knoxville Chamber Orchestra in Maurice Duruflé s Requiem. Dr. Miller is a Knoxville native and former Church Street singer. He is presently conductor of the world renowned Westminster Choir of Westminster Choir College. These outstanding musical programs are possible only because of gifts from people just like you. Please consider making a gift to help underwrite this year s programming. In December, we will host Tennessee s professional choir, the Tennessee Chamber Chorus. An optional Christmas Buffet Dinner will be served in the Parish Hall at 6:15 p.m. Two complimentary meals will be provided for contribu tors of $250 or more. See page 15 for more details. And lastly, the whimsical 200th anniversary birthday cake on the front of this brochure was created by artist Kelsey Roy, now in Boston, who sang with the Parish Adult Choir in 2011. A Service of Choral Evensong Sunday, October 2, at 6:00 p.m. Featuring the choirs of: Church Street UMC, Tim Ward director First Baptist Church, Richard Buerkle director First Presbyterian Church, Mark Pace director St. John s Episcopal Cathedral, Jason Overall director Edie Johnson organist On this night, the combined voices from our own Parish Adult Choir along with the choirs from our downtown neighbors will fill the Nave in a glorious Service of Choral Evensong. A dessert reception and birthday party immediately follow in Parish Hall.
Organ Recital featuring Raina Wäd Monday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. We are excited to welcome back Raina Wood who served as CSUMC s organist from 1996 2009. An outstanding recitalist, Raina will present a program featuring works by Charles Marie Widor, Ennio Morricone, and Dan Locklair.

This ensemble of professional singers was founded in 2012 and is conducted by Dr. Alan Stevens. The Tennessee Chamber Chorus is dedicated to innovation and artistic excellence in choral music. Gaudete! includes well known Christmas carols and anthems as well as new works composed to celebrate the holiday season. Join the Tennessee Chamber Chorus for an unforgettable evening of music. Experience the music of an 1816 recital a recital program featuring works that inspired our founders. Music for Piano and Organ featuring Edie Johnson, organ, and Fay Adams, piano Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. Church Street s organist, Edie Johnson, along with Fay Adams, emeritus Professor of Piano at University of Tennessee and Church Street member, will present a unique program of works for piano and organ. The concert will feature music by French composers Charles Marie Widor, Marcel Dupré, and César Franck, along with a work by American composer Emma Lou Diemer.
