Setting up the communication between a Total Station and SiteMaster range of products Before we set up the communication, one important thing to know.. Please NOTE that to check any setup and take measurements with the Total Station in the SiteMaster software, YOU MUST add a STATION into your drawing. To do this, once communication has been established. Go into the Station Manager and ADD a NEW STATION station (after typing a Station No. in the top dialogue) Once done you will be able to go into the DRAW module and use the Icon to take measurements.
OK SETTING UP COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE Total Station and Sitemaster Using Bluetooth We have 3 things to setup here 1. We must set the Total Station in Bluetooth mode 2. We must have the Bluetooth switched ON on the PC/PDA 3. We must use the Search for Bluetooth.. option in SiteMaster (note that this option will not appear if your Bluetooth is not switched on on your PC/PDA) If everything is set OK you will see Connected to Leica etc at the bottom of the dialogue. If everything is set OK you can proceed to adding a Station. (see page 1) If everything is not OK you may need to check the Communication Parameters using the Settings button.see below. Either way, please note that the default setting on the Total Station may be to use the PRISM. Please see below for how to switch between using the Prism and NOT using the Prism (using the laser) see end of this document. Using Serial Cable We have to setup. 1. Connect the cable between Total Station and device running SiteMaster 2. Set the data output on the Total Station see below 3. In SiteMaster set the Device Type, Port No, and check that the parameters match in the software and on the Total Station.
To use Bluetooth on the Total Station, you must tell it you want to use it. To do this you have to go into CONFIG > DATA OUTPUT and set BLUETOOTH SEE BELOW FOR SETTINGS If you want to use a serial cable, set the RS232 option for Data Output If you want to use Bluetooth set the Bluetooth option for Data Output (note when using Bluetooth, if it asks for a password code the default is 0000 (four zeros) Note that Endmark by default on the Serial option is CR/LF so presumably this is what needs to be set on the Bluetooth as well.
Setting up communications in SiteMaster. Using Bluetooth, select the Search for Bluetooth option. If using Serial connection select the Serial Connection and then the Settings (If checking the Bluetooth settings select Settings ) Note that with Leica s there are 2 protocols that can be used GSI and GEO, check you manual for the relevant setting. With some devices it may be necessary to check the Com port setting that the Bluetooth/Serial port is using and parameters..this can be done in Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT). In SiteMaster set the port number as per below. (note that your settings may be different to what is documented below so check YOUR settings) Click the DETAILS.. button to access further settings, set them the same as the parameters set on the Total Station
SEE BELOW FOR SETTINGS If you want to use a serial cable, set the RS232 option for Data Output If you want to use Bluetooth set the Bluetooth option for Data Output (note when using Bluetooth, if it asks for a password code the default is 0000 (four zeros) Note that Endmark by default on the Serial option is CR/LF so presumably this is what needs to be set on the Bluetooth as well. Once the Parameters are set the same the only thing that may still be wrong is the COM Port notice above that I have 2.try one first then the other if no communication is made (if your not sure about the GSI / GEO bit repeat on each setting).
Once settings are correct, you should see Connected to Leica.etc at the bottom of the dialogue box below And you can then click the OK button To proceed into the software. Again.you must add a Station into The drawing before taking any Measurements Please refer to the first page of this Document for how to do this.
Switching between Prism and Laser (none prism) on the Leica 400 and 500 series. By default the Leica range of Builders default setting is to use the Reflector. One of the main things you will have to do on the Total Station is to switch between using the reflector and using the laser (this allows you to measure to any point that is not the reflector on a wall for instance). To switch modes, do a long press on the button indicated below (f) the indicator (g) will be red if you are set on the laser and white if you are set on the reflector.
