3 Aout the Comoser Heather Archer Hoele is a native o Indianaolis, Indiana. She is a graduate o Indiana niversity in Bloomington, Indiana ith degrees in lute erormance and Audio Technology. She earned her educational certiication rom Deaul niversity in Chicago, Illinois and earned a Master o Music rom VanderCook College o Music in Chicago, Illinois. Groing u in Indianaolis, she studied lute ith hili Samle and Reecca rice o the Indianaolis Symhony. At Indiana niversity in Bloomington, she as a student o renon lute soloist Carol Wincenc. In addition to the orchestras at I, she also erormed ith the Indianaolis Symhony. In 2000 she ounded and ecame rincial lutist in the Tudor Winds Wind Quintet, hich erorms roessionally in the Chicago area. As a ulic school teacher, Mrs. Hoele has successully taught and at grades 5-12. inding her love o teaching eginners, she started comosing and arranging or her ands. As a current teacher, Ms. Hoele has a irm gras o the develoment o the eginning and student, and her comositions relect the needs and ants o these students. She currently teaches at lossmoor School District 161 in Illinois. She is very leased to e associated ith the Tradition o Excellence series and Neil A. Kjos Music. Aout the Comosition The title Red Sky at Morning as taken rom the old adage: Red sky at night, sailor s delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take arning. The rhyme has a scientiic asis, ut only or the arts o the gloe here the inds move rom est to east, aout 30 60 degrees latitude in the northern and southern hemisheres. Closer to the equator, the inds move rom east to est, so the red skies ould indicate an oosite rediction. When the sun shines through the atmoshere, an area o high ressure (good eather) ill cast a red glo. In areas here the inds move rom est to east, an area o good eather to the east at sunrise means that the good eather has already assed, and an area o ad eather rom the est is likely aroaching. Likeise, i the red sky aears to the est at sunset, it means the good eather is on its ay. Red Sky at Morning is a great iece or teaching young musicians to lay long hrases and exressive dynamics. The rass layers lo air through their instruments (ithout uzzing) at the eginning and the end to imitate the ind and aves o the sea.
