Information for new Authors
Dear readers, Our publishing company was founded in a small basement in 1997. With the help of our employees, our authors as well as our bookselling partners and media partners, novum publishing became the most important publishing company for new authors with branches in several countries. This story of success reflects the dynamic and the courage for diversification and redevelopment, which characterizes our publishing house. Our Motto is He who stops being better stops being good! Licenses for translations, braille editions, film adaptions etc. show that there is a great interest in new ideas and perspectives. Some books were even nominated for literary awards, and won them. More than 3000 reviews and reports in newspapers and the media as well as publications of several volumes by our authors are an impressive proof that we are on the right track. As an author, you put your whole energy and all your heart into writing your book. Now you have the right to find the best partner who knows how to establish your work successfully in the competitive book market. We devoted ourselves to books many decades ago and we support every author and every book individually. Sabine and Wolfgang Bader, CEO and founder 2
The publisher Many authors are disappointed when they offer their work to a publisher who rejects or shows no sign of reaction. Unfortunately, this happens very often. We believe that every author with a good manuscript is supposed to have a fair chance to present his work to a wide audience around the world. It is our purpose to provide this opportunity. The Latin word novum stands for something unique and unprecedented. This concept has also been the philosophy of our family-run publishing company for nearly 20 years: Since 1997, the publisher has been THE expert for new authors. The portfolio of our publishing house winner of numerous awards includes books from well-known personalities as well as a large number of books written by new authors whom we have introduced successfully to the book market, using our and expertise in this field. I m delighted with the impact that the front cover makes, not forgetting the attributes from your graphic team and how they adhered to my ideas. May I again pass on special thanks for your co-operation to date, and making me proud to become one of Novum s authors. John Kelly 3

Self-publishing or publishing company Author Ingeborg B. Hofbauer has d both sides. She granted us an interview and shared her s with Novum Publishing. Novum Publishing: What should those considering self-publishing expect? What can aspiring authors assume at this stage? Ingeborg B. Hofbauer: Writing a book is not so hard. The real work begins once the book has been written. Many believe that if a good teacher has edited the book then it is all done and dusted. However, the characteristics of a good book consist of much more such as efficient editing, a good layout, printing, shipping, the ISBN number and much more. I want to appear reasonably professional by taking these considerations into account; otherwise no bookstore will take me seriously. World Record! The world record was set on 15 July, 2007 as part of the summer festival in celebration of the decennial anniversary of novum publishing. It was set in the category Most people to write a story for the Guinness Book of World Records TM by a total of 797 people. As many people as possible had to be motivated to write together a connected story. As frame story served the story Novi, the little bookworm! The story was split in ten chapters and every sentence was written by one of the participants. Between each chapter is a short connection text to the next chapter. The hand written pages were scanned, minimised and bound as a book. The book inclusive documentation was sent to London s central of Guinness book of world records and was approved as new world record after a long and intense validation. 6
Tips for your manuscript submission In order to handle your submission quickly and smoothly, please note the following four tips: 1. Manuscript and personal details complete manuscript name and address phone number e-mail illustrations (if desired) synopsis (ideally) 2. Synopsis Ideally, you should also send a one-page synopsis a short abstract of the entire manuscript. It should give the editor a brief overview of the plot of your work, it should also give a summary of the main characters and it should represent the basic conflicts or the structure of the topics. It does not consist of any dialogues or details. 3. Font and layout The font and the layout are not so important for the mere submission. The manuscript doesn t need to be error-free at that time. Only after a positive appraisal and after signing the publishing contract, your text will be edited and optimised by our proof readers and editors. 4. Submission By e-mail: in a WORD or PDF file to office@novum-publishing.co.uk (The manuscript should be in ONE file only!) By mail: on a data storage device (CD-ROM, memory stick ) in a WORD or PDF file or in hard copy to: novum publishing, Alpha House, 100 Borough High Street, London SE1 1LB Please note that mail which is larger than size C4 (229x324 mm), heavier than 500 grams or sent with courier shipment cannot be accepted. 7
