Thank you for your interest in Wycombe Swan s Spring Youth Project 2019. Even if you have been involved in Projects before, we insist that you read this document very carefully. Following the success of Sweeney Todd last February, Wycombe Swan Spring Youth Project returns with the high-flying, hit musical Pippin - full of extraordinary, wondrous magical feats and soaring songs from the composer of Wicked. Pippin follows the journey of a young prince on an ambitious quest for an extraordinary life. As told by a travelling troupe of actors led by the cunning and charming Leading Player, Pippin is both a humorous allegory about growing up and a dark tale of the danger of false appearances and empty promises. An exploration of one man s journey to find himself, his place and purpose in life. Join us for a magical, unforgettable new show that captivates and appeals to the young at heart. Participants wishing to audition for Pippin must be at least 12, and no older than 21 years old on Sun 14 October 2018. Proof of ID may be requested. Unfortunately we are unable to make any exceptions to these age restrictions. The Spring Youth Project The Spring Youth Project brings over 70 young people together to create a fantastic show. The friendships, experiences and memories that are formed during the Project are wonderfully unique and last a lifetime. The project is the product of a lot of hard work and time, and it is only through the commitment of everyone involved that the final result is so spectacular. The dates for the 2018 production weeks are: Audition and Technical Interview Date Rehearsal Dates Production Week Performance Dates Sun 14 October 10am Sun 6 Jan, Sun 13 Jan, Sun 20 Jan, Sun 27 Jan, Sun 3 Feb, Sun 10 Feb. Sun 17 Feb Sun 24 Feb. Fri 22 Feb Sun 24 Feb. Please note that some extra rehearsals may be required for principle characters. The rehearsal schedule will be available to the chosen cast before Project begins. YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE ENTIRE REHEARSAL DURATION NO EXCEPTIONS. THE AUDITION PROCESS Auditions for Pippin will begin at 10am on Sun 14 October 2018 at Wycombe Swan Theatre. Please arrive promptly at the Oak Room doors in order to sign in and get into the audition space. The doors will be locked from10.30am when all participants have signed in, for security. Anyone wishing to audition after this time will not be admitted. Participants do not need to prepare anything for the audition. Participants will be taught a verse and chorus of a Pippin song, and they will be taught dance pieces on the day. It s important to highlight that we don t just expect the best dancers, singers and actors; we like to recognise potential and work with individuals throughout the process. Once everyone is signed in we will introduce the members of the Production Team and explain how the day will be run. We cannot predict a finishing time, but our aim is to have seen everyone by approximately 2pm. After that we will ask selected individuals to stay if we want you to audition as a main dancer, or for a principal part. If you are asked to stay on you may be at the theatre for the rest of the day so please bring plenty to eat and drink. Expect some waiting around, as we have to audition over 70 people. We would recommend bringing a mobile phone so that you can contact your parents for lifts at the end of the audition. Please remember to complete the online form prior to the audition day and to bring your completed contact forms, photos and measurement forms to the auditions. Page 2 of 7

CLOTHING Participants will be required to wear sensible clothing and footwear (soft-soled, no heels) to the audition. All participants will take part in a physical warm up so please come in comfortable, loose clothing. Please do not wear jewellery or anything that might prohibit your movement, or cause an injury whilst dancing. You will not be allowed to audition barefoot or in socks. BACKSTAGE AND TECHNICAL INTERVIEWS Participants interested in working backstage on Pippin will need to arrive at 10am at the Oak Room doors on Sun 14 October 2018. The Technical Team will take all participants interested in backstage work and speak to each one about the areas that they could be involved in. For safety reasons we do need to limit the amount of spaces to ensure that all participants are well supervised and get the best out of their experience, therefore we may not be able to take on everyone that applies. There are positions available in the following areas: Wardrobe Props Set Lighting and Follow Spots Sound Stage Management, ASM and DSM. All Backstage and technical participants regardless of area of focus will be asked to take part in the set construction. If you are selected to join the backstage team for the production you will be asked to wear sensible and appropriate clothing and steel toe-capped boots. Although some boots can be expensive the Technical team will be happy to recommend the most reasonably priced boots available. All other Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by Wycombe Swan. If you have any questions regarding clothing etc please discuss this with the technicians on during the meeting. DECISIONS You will be notified of the result of your audition or backstage interview by email. This should be done no later than Fri 20 Ocotber 2018. The full cast list and all technical roles will be posted on Wycombe Swan Website once all the emails have gone out and the roles have been accepted. The decision of the production team is final and correspondence regarding casting will not be entered into. Page 3 of 7

REHEREARSALS AND PERFORMANCES All participants will need to go to the Old Town Hall to sign into the building on a daily basis, where they will then begin rehearsals. Rehearsals can go from 10am - 9pm (with breaks for lunch and dinner) so we ask parents to ensure their children are prepared for the time commitment and bring suitable provisions. If participants are 15 and under, their days will usually end between 5-6pm. If they are required to stay late for tech or dress runs then their day will begin later to ensure that we adhere to child performance regulations. Performances are from Friday 22 nd Feb Sun 24 th Feb. FEES The participation fee for this year's Spring Youth Project is 165.00 per participant. If a family has more than one member in Spring Youth Project, each additional sibling will be charged at 130.00 per participant. This can be paid for by contacting our Ticket Office on 01494 512 000. We are happy to be paid in instalments and can discuss details and payment dates with you individually. Please note: once payment (or part-payment) has been made there are no refunds you have committed to the Project and taken a place from another auditionee. The fee covers all of the Sunday rehearsals, the production week as well as a production T-Shirt. It does not include meals, transportation or show tickets. We may ask you to assist with some basic items for costumes such as t-shirts, shoes, etc hopefully things that you already have at home. All fees must be paid by Friday 4 th January. Failure to pay will result in the exclusion of the participant from the show. SUBSIDISED PLACES There are a limited number of subsidised places on offer for those who genuinely cannot afford the fees. Please contact Jamie Sansom, Summer Youth Project Producer jamie@wycombeswan.co.uk for an application form, you may be asked to supply proof of earnings. PAYMENT The full amount can be paid using the online link sent to you in your acceptance emails. Any sibling discounts and bursaries must be paid via the Wycombe Swan Ticket Office. Payment can be made in person or over the phone by card. Card, cash and cheque payments are accepted. Cheques should be made payable to Wycombe Arts Management Ltd, and need to have the participants name on the back. The Ticket Office will create an account under the participant s name, and the payment will be recorded on the account. The Ticket Office Number is: 01494 512000, choose option 3 to make a payment. The Ticket Office team will be more than happy to help you through this process. COSTUME AND PROPS Participants will be asked to provide basic elements of costume that hopefully can be found easily at home, or from a charity shop etc. We will also create a props list and ask participants to ask parents, guardians and grandparents to look in attics and garages for items that we can use in the production. Page 4 of 7

NOTE TO PARENTS We rely on good communication with parents to ensure the production runs smoothly, therefore please check all the forms are filled out correctly. Regardless of age we ask for full contact details of parents so that we can always contact a parent if required. This is to adhere to our safe guarding policy. We would also ask that you notify us of any pertinent information that would help us to provide each child with the most enjoyable experience possible. We will endeavour to email any information to you as well as your child to keep you informed of rehearsal times and schedules. Please don t hesitate to contact us should you need to discuss further any information regarding your child and their involvement in Pippin. ENQUIRIES We look forward to seeing you at auditions and please tell your friends about this fantastic opportunity. Many of our past participants have gone on to work professionally in the West End and theatre industry or have used the skills learnt in many other areas of life. Whether it s on stage or backstage this is a fantastic experience that we love to share.
