Cruel and smart.-thief Synopsis Shahryar, a powerful Sultan in Arabia, wants to marry once again. The young and pretty girls in town have run away as they do not want to marry this man whose heart is as cold as stone. Everybody knows that after the wedding the bride is killed. The Sultan hates treason and his first wife was a traitor to him and their country. Since then, revenge has blinded his heart. Sherezade, the vizier s daughter, is beautiful and single. And she is usually around palace Shahryar orders Sherezade to be his new wife. Sherezade is willing to become Shahryar s new wife. She must stop the killing of so many young girls and knows how to do it: the wise girl invites her husband to listen to some good stories she would like to tell him before being killed. Sherezade starts by telling her husband a story about a poor fisherman and a genie. Hours pass by, the sun rises. It is the beginning of a new day and Sherezade is still alive. Shahryar is pleased with her storytelling and lets her go to bed to rest. He wants to hear more stories and spares her life for one more day. Sherezade is very keen on telling stories so, with the help of a soldier named Harun, and Marad, the Sultan s mother, she keeps on telling them night after night After 1000 nights she begins telling the story of Ali Baba and the forty thieves Moral There is one thousand times more gain in piety and forgiveness than on seeking revenge on others.
