TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: STICKS STONES BROKEN BONES Company: Bunk Puppets, contact :Jeff Achtem, jachtem@yahoo.com General Specifications Sticks Stones, Broken Bones is a flexible show adaptable for large and small venues. The technical specifications listed below are for ideal conditions in a well equipped theatre venue. The requirements can be scaled down for smaller venues with limited equipment. Duration : 50 mins, with NO interval. Environment The principal, non-negotiable requirement is that the venue must be able to transform into a dark environment. Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones is a shadow puppetry performance. All windows and any other light sources must be covered for the duration of the performance. It should be dark enough on stage that you cannot read a book. Space Minimum floor: 600 cm wide x 400 cm deep. Min. grid height : minimum of 400 cm from stage level. The performance is designed for an end-on stage, such as a proscenium arch or a black box studio theatre. A thrust theatre, or in the round is NOT suitable. Audience Access: The performance involves several instances of audience interaction. There should be easy, quick and visible access to the stage from the audience, (e.g. stairs if the stage is raised). Where stairs are movable, centre stage position for stairs is preferred. Equipment for set-up be provided by the venue: One small table for unpacking, and re-packing the show. One bar stool (approx. 60 80 cm high) to be used in the performance (see photo for example). Stool must not have a back support. Broom to clean up of confetti after the performance. Masking (Curtains) : Black curtains are required across the back wall behind set, and for the wings off stage left and stage right. For large venues, the mid-stage full width curtain may be lowered to divide the space. Rigging : will be required for the following set items: SCREEN: The company will provide a projection screen: 2.2m wide x 1.8m high, weight 8 kg. The screen must be hung from a single point, stage right. Screen is approx, 45 deg angle to the downstage left corner of the stage. The lower edge of the screen is 110 cm above floor level.. CLOTHES LINE A rope line will be strung along the back of the set, and rigged from points off stage. Height: 1.8m to floor. The set plan indicates the area of rope which is utilized in the performance, and which will be lit. The actual rope will extend further off stage to tie off points. Rigging points are not visible to the audience. Where there are no suitable rigging points offstage, or where the width of the stage exceeds 10m, the venue should provide 2 lighting boom stands or which can be weighted down or tied off securely (see photo) On-stage electrical: Please provide a 1 x 10amp, 220V power point connection at X position. This is mains power (not connected to a dimmer rack). The company will connect low-voltage transformer at this point. Lighting: There are approx 5 lighting states, and 20 separate cues. In most venues, the standard rig of the theatre, with some focused specials (spotlight profiles) is sufficient to create the lighting requirements of the show. 1. PRE-SHOW STATE Coloured highlights along the rope line, in a focused beam from above. If possible, a pink or red coloured special on the screen. Some red, green and blue colour wash on the set. This state can usually be created using the light fixtures from the WASH STATE on a lower level (approx 20%) 2. WASH STATE A general wash to cover the performance area (contained to the set plan as seen above) The preference is for a warm white wash from the front, with some visible colour for texture. There is a coloured backlight from onstage wash. Ideal colours are Primary Red Green and Blue. These lights in this stage may spill slightly onto the screen. 3. SPOTLIGHT STATE For a spotlight effects, we focus 2 profile spots from front of house (above the audience) and 1 profile spot (from above stage) on the X in the set plan. These will be open white. 4. HOUSE LIGHT (limited) For the moments of audience interaction, we would like to light up two specific locations in the audience. This could be part of your existing house light system, or they may be rigged as specials from above. The locations are : 1) the stair access points from auditorium to stage, 2) the first few rows of the audience seating. 5. NINJA SPOT One profile spotlight focussed to a point in front of the screen, to light a person. The fixture should be placed in a far stage right position. NO spill onto screen.
