Solar System embark on a musical journey through the solar system, exploring how our universe inspired composers including Claude Debussy, Gustav Host and George Crumb. The children sing songs and compose pieces of music. Spring Life Cycles Explore the human life cycle with music by Johannes Brahms, Luciano Berio, Franz Liszt and Claudio Monteverdi. The children sing, perform and compose. Look at bands and choirs in the local community. Take your child to a performance. Explore the solar system. Use computer or ipad musical programmes to compose a piece of music to represent the planets in our solar system. The children learn about beat, syncopation, pitch and harmony. Journeys Sing a variety of songs for performance. Listen to music from 1920 s animated films to present day movies. Compare and contrast the music that was written. Sing a range of songs e.g. pop songs, raps etc. Compose a song about going on a journey. Use a well known music track to perform to. Could you perform your song to the rest of the class?

Spring Growth Explore Ravel s Bolero through rhythmical mime, learn songs with instrumental accompaniments, and create a dance to build into a thrilling street performance. Roots Create a musical performance about the effects of the slave trade on a West African village. Listen to Ravel s Bolero. What picture does in conjure up in your mind? Could you tell a story from listening to the piece of music? Look at the busy streets of Liverpool. What sounds can you hear? Could you replicate these sounds using dance and movement? Explore and research the slave trade in West Africa. Explore music that reflects the mood and emotion created at this time. Summer Class Awards Create a musical composition to match a piece of art work. Create a performance using fanfare, rap and songs. Moving On Songs looking forward and back in their year. Performance for end of year celebration.
