Lesson Information Activities 1 st week: Introduction/Reading Introduction to classroom procedures, rules, and expectations Administrative procedures/school paperwork Introduce Blackboard (LMS) class setup Discuss procedures for summer reading assignments and collect work from students who have finished it Review, model, and practice close reading, annotation, and note-taking skills as well as creating Level 1, 2, & 3 questions. Read Harrison Bergeron to connect with both dystopian fiction from English I and theme of resistance to authority in preparation for Antigone. Teach and model active reading, analysis, and annotation. Use this text to show examples of literary elements. Create Level 1, 2, & 3 questions based on reading. 2 nd week: Reading/Writing Finish reading and analysis of Harrison Bergeron. Practice active reading, annotation, identification of literary elements, and analysis. Watch short film 2081 (based on Harrison Bergeron ), taking notes on how the methods of storytelling differ between it and the original text. Review essay writing rubric and work in groups to create student-worded versions.
