For grades Prelmnary to V canddates presentng a certfcate or result sheet verfyng that they have passed the Local Centre wrtten Theory & Harmony paper for the same grade as, or hgher than, ther practcal examnaton wll be exempt from the Theory tests and wll be awarded full marks for ths secton. Canddates wll be asked to name and explan the followng n relaton to the peces performed: Elementary Grade Clefs, stave, bar lnes, note values and expresson markngs. Prelmnary Grade Clefs, stave, bar lnes, smple tme sgnatures, note values and expresson markngs. Prmary Grade Clefs, stave, bar lnes, smple tme sgnatures and expresson markngs. Grade I Ptch names, tme sgnatures, note values, expresson markngs and key sgnatures. Grade II Ptch names, tme sgnatures, note values, expresson marks and key sgnatures. In addton, canddates wll be asked to descrbe the character of any of the peces performed (eg lvely, sorrowful, happy, dance-lke, jazzy etc.) Grade III Tme sgnatures, note values, expresson markngs and key sgnatures. As for Grade II, canddates wll be asked to descrbe the character of any of the peces performed (eg lvely, sorrowful, happy, dance-lke, jazzy etc.) Grades IV Tme sgnatures, note values, expresson markngs, and key sgnatures. In addton canddates wll be expected to dentfy the relatve major or mnor of the keys of each pece performed. Canddates wll also be asked to descrbe the style of any of the peces performed: (eg baroque, classcal, romantc, modern). Grade V Tme sgnatures, note values, expresson markngs, key sgnatures and relatve major or mnor of the keys of each pece performed. As for Grade IV, canddates wll be asked to descrbe the style of any of the peces performed. In addton, canddates wll also be asked to dentfy the tonc and domnant of any of the keys n whch the peces are wrtten (atonal peces do not apply).

13 Aural Requrements & Theoretcal Questons 2015-2018 COMBINED AURAL/THEORETICAL TESTS For Grades VI to VIII canddates presentng a certfcate or result sheet verfyng that they have passed the wrtten Theory & Harmony paper for the same grade as, or hgher than, ther practcal examnaton wll be exempt from the combned Aural/Theoretcal Tests and wll be awarded the full ffteen marks for ths secton. Senor Certfcate canddates nstead wll be awarded the full ten marks n ths secton but wll be requred to partake n the Vva Voce secton of the examnaton whch s worth a maxmum of fve marks. Grade VI Aural/Vsual Observaton: A short pece wll be played twce by the examner, a copy of whch wll be gven to the canddate. The canddate to answer questons as follows: (c) (after frst playng) Name the tonc key of the pece. Keys: C, G, D, F major. A, E, D mnor. Name the relatve major/mnor of the tonc. Descrbe the tme sgnature. Any sgnature usng Ä ± or ±. beats.
