Heritage 4 The Midas Heritage 4 is an evoution of the award winning Heritage 3 with an additiona 6 more busses, which has resuted in what many woud regard as the utimate stage monitor consoe. As monitor appications have become more demanding, specificay with the increased usage of inear systems, it is now common to see mutipe consoes bussed together, in order to achieve the required amount of outputs. The Heritage 4 aows an engineer to run up to 4 mixes (pus stereo masters) from a singe consoe, benefiting from the wordrenown Heritage buss fexibiity, and road proven digita assistance. As with a Heritage, Legend and Siena consoes the Heritage 4 can be inked via the Soo Tracking System to the Kark Teknik Heix system aowing instant access to the EQ for any input or output simpy by pressing the key on the desk. Heritage 4 Heritage 4 Mono Input Modue The Mono Input Modue is a fuy featured mic/ine channe strip incorporating the cassic XL4 micpre and MIDAS 4band parametric equaiser with 4 adjustabe, dua mode Group Mix contros and eight additiona stereo Aux Mixes. The 4 configurabe Mix rotaries operate as bus assign on/off switches as we as conventiona Aux sends, controing the signa s sent to the corresponding Aux buses. These 4 Mix buses may be configured as Mono Aux, Stereo Aux or Post Pan Group, seectabe in pairs. In Stereo Aux mode, the efthand contro of each pair functions as a pan contro whie the righthand contro adjusts the Aux. The channe points may be switched pre or posteq. Masters Modue Fu Left / Centre / Right metering is provided as part of the Masters Modue aong with a arge SooinPace switch. Direct inputs may be summed into the eft and right buses for consoe inking, or other appications, and these may be switched pre or post the master point. Each of the eight Matrix Master contros has Left/Right/Sum source switching and the matrix feeds may be switched pre or post the Master fader. This modue aso incudes the takback contros, overa contro of the master stereo baance and singe fader contro over the stereo mix. The master mute buttons are integrated into the snapshot automation system and there s a ink to aow the mono output to track that of the stereo master fader. Each mono channe features the MIDAS SIS spacia imaging system for use with Left, Centre Right oudspeaker systems. When SIS is active, the Image contro modifies the action of the pan contro so as to adjust the amount of centre panned signas which are fed equay to both eft and right outputs as we as to the centre. This can be particuary usefu for distributing the oad of high energy, centrepanned sounds across a FOH oudspeaker arrays. A constant power aw ensures that the overa baance wi not change as the Image contro is adjusted. Stereo Input Modue Like the Mono Input Modue, the stereo is a comprehensive, mic/ine channe strip incorporating the cassic MIDAS 4band equaiser and 4 adjustabe, dua mode Group Mix contros that operate as bus assign on/off switches and Aux sends. The input gain and EQ contro settings appy to both the eft and right signa paths. The Aux modes are simiar to those provided on the mono channe, though when configured to mono, the signa is derived from a sum of the eft and right channes. Like the mono version, the channe points may be switched pre or post EQ. Bargraph metering indicates the prefader peak input s whie a Mono button connects the postfader channe signas to the Mono Master fader. Left and right pan contros are used for setting the stereo positioning of the two channes and a Stereo routing button connects the postfader channe signas to the stereo bus via the pan contros. Input faders The Input faders are inked to an intuitive, automation system, which is mainy controed from the centre section of the consoe, though status buttons and indicators are ocated adjacent to each fader. Each fader has an automation safe button that removes it from automation contro as we as a Fader Safe button which removes the fader from any form of remote contro. The set switch is used to program the channe automute and assignment when creating subgroups. Status LEDs are used to show the virtua fader as we as to prompt the operator when nuing the faders. The focus is on fast, intuitive use in a ive performance situation. Group Modue The Group Modue provides a highy fexibe stereo Group master contro strip with one direct input per Group that can be mixed with the existing bus signa. These direct inputs may be empoyed as extra effects returns or for consoe bus inking. Eight matrix contros are provided per channe and per channe pre/post switching is provided to determine whether the Group s matrix outputs are derived pre or post the Group fader. switches are fitted to assign the audio subgroups to contro via masters and. Cear metering monitors the signa s from 36dB to db. The Group point may be switched so that the signa sent to the matrix mixes is either pre or post the point. A arge, iuminated mute button may be used for manua channe muting or may be controed from the Automute snapshot automation system. The 8 dedicated Stereo Aux Masters are on the Pod above, aong with their Soo, Mute and baance contros. Located here are aso the Stereo Aux Output meters assignment buttons to s and, Insert, Tak and Buss Direct input. Monitor Modue The Monitor Modue incudes peak metering of the eft and right monitor signas, a variabe frequency test osciator with a khz fixed tone switch, pink noise generation and a takback mic input. The takback mic may be routed to an externa XLR or to the consoe s interna tak system, in which case oca outputs are dimmed by db. The signa generator section may be routed to the consoe s interna Tak to A and Tak Seect busses and/or to an externa XLR connector. The Tak to A switch takes priority over other output tak switches so that the signa generator section or mic can be routed to a outputs. A headphone monitoring section is aso fitted aong with phase reverse, eft/right reverse switching mute and buttons for the monitor output. A singe fader provides overa contro over a three oca monitor outputs and a switchabe Soo Add mode aows mutipe channes to access to the Soo bus. Matrix Modue Each Matrix Modue provides fu fader contro and metering for four matrix outputs. Matrix outputs may be individuay assigned to contro from the master fader and Tak buttons may be used to incude the matrix outputs in the takback system. Safe buttons remove the matrix output from snapshot automation contro and Soo switches send the matrix signas to the PFL mono and AFL buses. Master Faders The Master Faders are equipped with Soo and Mute buttons, pus an Auto Safe switch that disabes snapshot automation contro of both the master faders and mutes. If the Soo button is pressed momentariy, it wi atch on whereas if it is pressed and hed for more than one second, the atching is disabed. The same status LED system is empoyed as on the channe faders to show the virtua fader settings and to assist the user in nuing the faders when necessary. The status LEDs turn off when the consoe is in or mute assignment modes. Automation System The Heritage 4 incudes a highy sophisticated yet intuitive Mute and automation system designed specificay for ive performance. Numerica readouts of Act and Scene numbers is provided and there s direct Fast Key access to the ten most commony used snapshots as set up by the user. Snapshots may be stored as either acts or scenes where scenes are organised as subsets of acts. Scene reca may be achieved by stepping through the stored scenes in numerica order using the Last/Next buttons, by using the Act/Scene Up/Down buttons or by direct reca using a Fast Key. Aternativey, scenes may be recaed directy via MIDI. A check mode is provided so that virtua fader positions for a newy recaed scene can be viewed before making that scene active. The automation data is read from two micro cards. A switch is used to seect whether card A or B is active. Potentia faut situations are aso monitored by the status LEDs. Comprehensive automation and MIDI editing is provided, though this may be disabed during performance if required for security reasons. The fader automation operates in either Rea Fader mode or Virtua Fader mode. In Rea Fader mode the signa s are controed by the physica faders, whie in Virtua mode they are controed by the automation system. In virtua mode, the status LEDs adjacent to the faders show the gain setting regardess of the physica fader position. In Rea Fader mode, the automation system can sti provide visua prompts via the status LEDs. Comprehensive editing faciities are provided, incuding the abiity to edit, or copy scenes. Virtua Fader Reca mode generates a fader based on the vaue at the time the ast snapshot was stored. This is added to the physica fader (effectivey a reative mode) and the virtua fader is dispayed as a vertica bar of status LEDs. 6 7

Matrix sends are provided for mono sends to 6 and the Aux 6 To Mtx switch enabes matrix inputs to 6 to be sourced from the Aux outputs rather than the group outputs. A simiar switching arrangement is provided for Aux 7 to. Separate Left/Right and Centre contros are fitted and the master matrix contro is fitted with both Mute and Safe switches. A ink switch feeds the upper matrix into the ower matrix so that the ower matrix carries a mix of both. Up to 6 matrix modues can be fitted providing a by 6 matrix with the ink switch assigned on a modues (3 by 3 when unassigned). Automation Modue The Automation modue handes the channe assignment as we as the mute and snapshot automation. Separate, Mute, S Group and Aux switches determine which assignment mode is operationa. These are used in conjunction with the channe Set buttons. Automation is via an intuitive automation system designed specificay for ive performance. Numerica readouts of Act and Scene numbers are provided and there s direct Fast Key access to the ten most commony used snapshots as set up by the user. Snapshots may be stored as either acts or scenes where scenes are organised as subsets of acts. Aternativey, scenes may be recaed directy via MIDI. A check mode is provided so that virtua fader positions for a newy recaed scene can be viewed before making that scene active. The automation data is read from a micro card (up to two may be instaed at any one time) and status LEDs show whether the automation is active or inactive. Where two cards are instaed, a switch is used to seect whether card A or B is active. Comprehensive automation and MIDI editing is provided, though this may be disabed during performance if required for security reasons. The fader automation operates in either Rea Fader mode or Virtua Fader mode. In Rea Fader mode, the signa s are controed by the physica faders whie in Virtua mode, they are controed by the automation system. In virtua mode, the meter LEDs adjacent to the faders show the gain setting regardess of the physica fader position. In Rea Fader mode, the automation system can sti provide visua prompts via the status LEDs. Comprehensive editing faciities are provided, incuding the abiity to edit, or copy scenes. 38 3

Heritage Library Manager Software Kark Teknik Show Command and Soo Tracking System (STS) Kark Teknik Show Command is a unique integrated system of hardware, software and Ethernet technoogy, which provides fu contro of oudspeaker system equaisation, management and routing from a choice of userinterfaces. The new DN33 RAPIDE has been deveoped for show time contro of graphic EQ functions, whie a WiFi tabet PC, in conjunction with ELGAR software aows for wireess freedom around a stage or venue during setup and sound check. Show Command aso has the additiona benefit of a seria communication interface to Midas STS equipped consoes, providing the best possibe combination of instantaccess fingertip contro and wireess freedom. When Show Command is inked to Midas consoes in the Heritage, Legend and Siena range or the XL8, the STS or Soo Tracking System can be used. This means that when any key is pressed on the consoe, the EQ for that input or output (outputs ony on Siena) is instanty shown on the Heix DN34E Dua EQ or a wired wireess PC, ready for immediate contro. Once dispayed on your chosen user interface you naturay have compete access to a the Heix EQ functions aocated to that input or output. The graphic EQ portion of Heix wi aso be dispayed on the DN33 RAPIDE graphic controer if connected into the system. A RS3 connection is suppied on the rear pane of the Heix DN33 and DN34E for this purpose and up to 64 channes of Heix can be connected using standard CAT cabes. Midas and Kark Teknik ELGAR Framework ELGAR is a software she for a PC that aows Midas and Kark Teknik product contro software, caed AddIns, to operate. ELGAR aows data from individua units, for exampe a number of Heix units and a Midas Heritage, via the reevant Add In to be stored within one show fie on your PC. You can therefore have your entire show with you on your aptop, aowing you to fine tune settings in your hote room and then just upoad it ater at the venue. ELGAR wi aso ensure that the correct AddIn wi ony communicate with the correct piece of hardware in other words it wi make certain that a Heix Remote Contro AddIn wi ony tak to the Heix unit and not the Heritage. The Heritage ibrary manager software is one of the Add Ins avaiabe for the Midas and Kark Teknik ELGAR software she. This award winning piece of software enabes engineers to create scene settings on a PC which can then be upoaded to the Heritage as we as edit scene data downoaded from the consoe. As a resut much of the consoe programming can be done offine in advance of the show, eaving more time for fine tuning during rehearsas which can then be downoaded to the PC to keep the settings in the show fie current. The ibrary manager can be used onine during a performance to provide a visua overview of the consoes settings. For exampe when snapshot scenes are recaed by the consoe the ibrary manager automaticay updates the PC. Library manager can edit offine the foowing functions: 44 Mute states for input, output and group channes Fader s for the groups with variabe crossfade speeds and Audio subgroups assignments Automute and Auxiiary group assignments MIDI commands As a resut the Heritage, with its sma footprint and powerfu automation system, couped with the Library Manager software provides an extremey effective creative too for a number of appications but in particuar theatrica productions. 4

Connectivity PSUs and Packages CAN Bus CAN was originay used as the communication device for engine management systems in the automotive industry. Due to its rugged and reiabe nature it is the perfect system to aow Heritage and Legend consoes to communicate with each other. Any mixture of Heritage or Legend Series consoe may be inked in this manner. When inked, one consoe becomes the master and a the other inked consoes become saves. Linked functions incude a automation systems incuding scene reca, and Soo ogic. Power suppy unit A Heritage consoe can be powered from a singe Heritage Series auto ranging switched mode power suppy. However due to Midas phiosophy of deivering the compete package every consoe is suppied with two PSUs to aow for dua redundancy. When they are connected in parae, using the suppied inking cabes, the oad is shared across each unit and if one of the power suppies fais, then the remaining unit wi seamessy and inaudiby take on the fu oad. The suppies have been designed to aow for fexibe connectivity as fu power can be taken from either the front or rear pane with the suppied way output connector. Input Votage Range 4VAC Max Output Power 7W Operating Temperature 4C Nomina Rais 8V, 8V, 48V MIDI A Heritage consoe aows you to fire four different MIDI messages per scene thus aowing you to contro outboard devices with the MIDI standard. The consoe may aso be configured to reca scenes triggered by MIDI messages. This is simpy programmed via a menu in the automation section of the consoe. RS3 Heritage Utiities Software The Heritage Utiities software (avaiabe from www.midasconsoes.com) is Windows software that wi aow you to downoad new operating code into the consoe. It wi aso aow you to down and upoad memories to and from the consoe and store them as PC fies. This software aso handes the transfer of automation functions from one consoe to another or to an extender via the digita CAN bus on the rear of the consoe. Packages Heritage consoes can be specified in a number of turnkey packages to suite your appication. There is a touring package that consists of a Heritage, two power suppies incuding the inking cabes, Littites, dust cover and fight case. The theatre package is simiar to the touring package however a crate repaces the fight case and you wi aso get as standard (except on a Heritage ) a scriptside. The bobtai package, designed specificay for the US market, consists of a 48 channe Heritage minus the handes and with utra thin side cheeks and a speciay designed fight case suitabe for a inch wide bobtai truck. Easy Gide An extremey usefu too is the Easy Gide which is incuded as standard in the theatre package and as an option in the touring package. Unfortunatey the Easy Gide is not avaiabe for the Heritage. Very simpy the Easy Gide provides somewhere visibe and handy for engineers to put their scripts, pens, mobie phones or any of the other things that typicay cutter up the contro surface. As the Easy Gide is designed to be moveabe it is aways out of harm s way, yet sti within easy reach. It means that finay engineers can keep their work environments tidy yet sti have access to the toos they need. Easy Tit A coective sigh of reief went up from roadies and crew the word over when Midas came up with this revoutionary device for getting the heaviest mixing consoe from vertica to the horizonta working position and back to vertica again with just two peope. Easy Tit is the definitive soution to handing the weight of traditiona anaogue mixing consoes that are buit to ast. This cever device, avaiabe in two heights either 8 or 6., not ony gets the consoe into position quicky and easiy, but aso provides a secure working patform for the consoe whie it is in use, and then just as easiy puts the consoe back onto its whees in the fight case when the show is over. Warranty When you purchase a Heritage consoe, or in fact any Midas consoe, you wi get an extra peace of mind with yet another industry first a 3 year warranty to guard against any possibe probems arising from the desk or power suppies. 46 47
