Birth 8 Years Old Parents Build A Reader September 5th; October 17th; November 28th at 5:00 You are your child's first teacher and there is nothing better than learning together! Join us as we explore how to practice literacy skills in fun, everyday activities. We'll try together some easy and hands-on ways to grow your child into a super reader! Children are welcome to come with to this brand new monthly program! Ideal for families with children ages 2-6. Storytimes Lapsit Storytime Tuesdays at 10:30 Ages Birth-2: Read stories, sing songs, and do crafts with Ms. Jill! Next Storytime Tuesdays at 4:00 Ages 5-8: We had so much fun this summer, we ve decided to keep this early-elementaryaged storytime going! Read stories, do a craft, participate in an activity. Alphabet Soup Wednesdays at 10:30 Ages 3-6: Prepare to start reading by learning letters and the sounds they make based on Montessori teachings with Ms. Angela! Preschool Storytime Wednesdays at 11:30 Ages 3-6: Read stories, do crafts and other activities with Ms. Sydney! Sensory Storytime Thursdays at 10:30 Ages Birth-6: Engage your senses and explore! This inclusive and interactive storytime is full of repetition, rhyme, and sensory play choices for children of all abilities. Led by Ms. Sydney Dual Language Storytime Fridays at 6:30 Ages Birth-6: Read stories, sing songs, do crafts, and enjoy other activities in both English and Spanish with Ms. Joanne! Family 2 Comic Book Night September 7th at 6:30 Calling all superheroes, this one is for you! Join Ms. Kristina in all things superheroes as we make bat signals, superhero slime, and write your very own comic book! PAWS to Read October 12th at 6:30 The OSF Comfort dogs will join us again for stories and fun. If you would like an individual turn to read to the dogs, we will begin handing out numbers at 6pm. Ida s 3rd Annual October 26th at 6:30 Dress up in your costumes and spend the evening trickor-treating in our parking lot! This year, we will adding a community pumpkin contest. Manga & Anime Club September 4th; October 2nd; November 13th at 5:00 Ages 11-18: Once a month, watch an anime and discuss your latest reads with Ms. Leah! For this fall only: each meeting that you attend enters you into a prize drawing; bring a friend for a bonus entry! Costuming Workshop October 2nd at 6:00 Ages 11-18 Have you ever wanted to know what goes into making costumes? Join us for a beginning look at costume techniques, from picking fabrics and repurposing thrift store clothes, to styling wigs. Whether you re an avid cosplay fan or just want to put together a cool costume for this year s Halloween party, bring your costume questions from the basics to the details to learn more about how to make the perfect costume for you! Intro to Cryptozoology wii <3 Tweens and. Thursdays at 4:00 Ages 8-12: This drop-in program is a little different each week! We always have the wii and board games; in addition to the games, we do an optional activity, too! Led by Ms. Madie! First Thursday Origami Club Second Thursday Mad Scientists Club Third Thursday Make & Take Club Fourth Thursday Ida s Writers October 25th at 5:30 Ages 8-12 Get into the Halloween spirit with this introduction to the spooky world of cryptids! Learn more about these mysterious monsters such as the Loch Ness Monster and Chupacabra that may or may not exist, examine evidence, and make your own cryptid to take home with you! *Pizza will be served at the end of wii <3 Tweens for any tweens and teens interested in attending both programs* Tweens and Teens: Ages 8-18 Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them November 10th at 2:30 Get ready for the sequel released in theaters on November 16th by watching the first movie in the series with us on our big screen! Popcorn will be provided; personal refreshments are welcome. This movie is PG13. Fridays Trunk-or-Treating *If you or your group is interested in hosting a trunk, space is limited. Please call to register and for more information* El Día de los Muertos November 2nd at 6:30 Our Dual-Language storytime will be all about the famous holiday! Happy Un-Birthday! November 30th at 6:30 Is it your birthday? No--it isn't mine either. That doesn't mean we can't throw a party! Join us for a very merry Un- Birthday, where we'll have a blast doing all your favorite birthday party games. 3

Teens and Tweens Book C For Kids and Teens: We do youth book clubs a little differently at Ida Public Library: many of our book clubs read multiple books on the same topic to include all reading levels and genre preferences! To join one of our youth book clubs, simply stop at the youth services desk to pick up a book! Each month, we do an activity and discuss half of a book! September And The Half Blood Prince: Chapters 16-The End October...And The Deathly Hollows: Chapters 1-23 November...And The Deathly Hollows: Chapters 24-The End Book Club Pro-Tips Whether you join one of our clubs or start your own, here are a few things we ve learned: Taking Notes: Taking notes of your thoughts as you read helps jog your memory of the story. Getting yourself a notebook for book club is one way to keep your thoughts organized. Another is using post-it notes: one of our staff members puts them on the back cover of her books so that she doesn t have to carry around a notebook, too! Discussion Guides Online: Did you know that your library card gives you access to the website ReadingGroupGuides? You can find the link through the library s catalog, under the tab Reading Suggestions. This website has discussion questions for thousands of titles and many genre specific generic questions. Wanting a little sneak peek at questions that can come up in our meetings? Many of which our book club leaders use this resource when preparing for their meetings. 4 This site is also useful if you are looking for tips on starting your own book club with your friends or family, and you can consider the website a giant list of book club-worthy books!

Adults: 18+ Conversation Corner September 10th; September 24th; October 8th; October 15th; November 5th; \November 19th at 6:00 Our new conversation group for adult English Language Learners will meet twice a month to practice their English skills. The group will be led by our Spanish Programmer, Joanne, but is not Spanish -to-english exclusive! *Please note that this discussion group is intended for practice purposes and is not an ESL Class. Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal October 29th at 6:00 Members of the Society for Anomalous Studies will share their knowledge of all things paranormal this Halloween season. The latest in paranormal equipment will be demonstrated, paranormal history and theories will be explored, and intriguing audio and visual evidence from SAS investigations will be revealed. Children must be accompanied by an adult; parental guidance highly suggested. *Please stop in or call to register* Interpretive Tour of the Belvidere Cemetery September 15th from 1-3 Join the Ida Public Library and the Boone County Historical Museum for this self-guided cemetery tour that will include costumed volunteers sharing stories about some of Boone County s historical characters. The Petit Memorial Chapel will be open from 3-4 for refreshments. Cost is $5.00 at the entrance. Takes place at: 1121 N. Main Street, Belvidere, Illinois, 61008 Illinois at 200 October 22nd at 6:30 Join us as William Pack presents Illinois at 200: The Storytelling and Trivia Game Show! War Ink November 8th at 6:00 Tattoos are a novel form of self-expression. They tell a different kind of story, one that is often emotional, expressive, and steeped in meaning. These stories are even more poignant for our military service members. Join Fantasy Bound Ink and local veterans as they share their tattoos and their stories. Want to share your story? Holiday Card Making November 29th at 6:00 Join in on the DIY fun as we listen to holiday music and create our own cards! Supplies and ideas for cards will be provided, but feel free to bring in your own ideas and supplies as well. Children must be accompanied by an adult. *Please stop in or call to register* Libby Libby is the completely revamped Overdrive app. The app allows you to check out up to five books on your phone and other devices for up to three weeks at a time just like the books from our shelves but from the convenience of wherever you are! After three weeks, your books will return on their own, but you also have the option to return them early or to renew them if there is no one waiting. Hoopla Hoopla allows up to five checkouts a month of movies, TV shows, graphic novels, manga, ebooks, audiobooks, and even brand new hit music all with no waiting through a hold-list! You can download your checkouts onto your device and take them anywhere including in airplane mode! Hoopla also has a wonderfully curated Read-a- Like component that will introduce you to new authors and artists. Need help getting started?
