Don t be nervous and SMILE! We re all friendly, so we promise that it won t be intimidating. DANCE-ONLY AUDITIONS Auditions for Keith Valley Middle School students interested in a dance-only role (no singing or acting involved) will be held at the same time as the dance audition for Featured Roles. - Saturday October 10 th DANCE AUDITIONS 9:00-10:00 EVERYONE 10:00-11:30 Featured-role actors will be dismissed for their callbacks and Dancers MAY be asked to stay to show more. WE WOULD ADVISE ANYONE WHO HAS HAD DANCE TRAINING, OR CONSIDERS DANCE TO BE ONE OF HIS OR HER STRENGTHS, TO COME OUT FOR THIS AUDITION! The role of CHA-CHA DIGREGORIO will be considered at this time. Cha-Cha, a nonsinging role, is a memorable character who performs a featured dance routine. We will be looking at dance ability at the dance audition, as well as readings from the script at a callback later that afternoon. A strong character-actress is needed.
NOTE: Dance auditions are closed to visitors so no one is allowed in the auditorium at any time during your audition. CALLBACKS Callbacks are held to bring back certain actors to read/sing/dance for specific roles. The callback list of students who need to attend and what time slots they are needed will be posted on the Club page on Hatboro-Horsham.org <http://tinyurl.com/greasekv>. Callback materials will be available to read online on Monday October 12 th. Callbacks are scheduled for Friday October 9 th and 10 th. Everyone who was called back will be in the room together, and you ll be asked to read/sing selections from the script/score. It s known as a cold reading, because you are not expected to memorize anything in advance. It s best to review the script cuttings given to you in your callback packet and become familiar with them. All students that audition will also be considered for one of the many speaking-only roles we have available so do not be discouraged if your name does not appear on the callback list. We will be casting a large ensemble. Please note: If you are not called back, it does NOT mean you are not in the show. There will be NO callbacks for ensemble. A final cast list will be posted on Sunday, October 11th at on the Clubs page on Hatboro-Horsham.org and also posted in the music wing. REHEARSALS Blocking, Music, and Dance rehearsals will be held Monday-Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Not everyone is scheduled at every rehearsal - at least in the beginning. As we work individual scenes, only the actors in those scenes need to be there. We take very seriously your commitment and your time. The schedule will be laid out in advance, and only very rarely deviated from. We will try our best to schedule so that you won t be sitting around waiting for the director to get to your part.
NOW FOR THE RULES If you cannot follow them, please re-consider auditioning: ABSENTEE POLICY: All rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday evenings and will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays beginning at 9:30 a.m. If you are late to more than three rehearsals that you are scheduled than that will count as one absence. If you are absent when we initially block a scene, teach a dance number or initially learn vocal music you will not be in that portion of the show. If you miss two UNEXCUSED rehearsals you will be dropped from a production number. If you get a third UNEXCUSED absence you will be dropped from the cast. School grades and behavior will also be a factor in remaining in the cast. We will be in communication with house principals and reports of suspensions from school are not acceptable. Please keep in mind no conflicts accepted after January 9 th and you must be available for all run-throughs beginning on that date and after. At the first rehearsal you will be given a Cast Contract which outlines this even further, and other rules that you will be asked to follow, in order to help this production run smoothly. Please take into consideration that this is a MAJOR time commitment for all involved and we do expect dedication. Please be prepared to meet these challenges before coming in to your audition. Our hope is that your time will result in an excellent production and a truly positive experience! We don t want to sound harsh we just need you to be in attendance at all called rehearsals. A sports coach or dance teacher wouldn t expect anything less. BARRY, I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS: Should you have any questions regarding the audition process or rehearsal conflicts that are not answered in this letter, please feel free to E-mail the Directors at: kvmusicth8r@yahoo.com FINAL WORDS Auditioning is a great learning experience and takes a lot of courage. Remember, each of you possess unique talents that may or may not be right for this particular show. If you are not cast in the role you wanted, it is important to know that the staff s decision is not a reflection of your level of talent, but rather of the types of actors, singers, dancers needed for this particular production. Do not let it deter you from auditioning again in the future or working on the production in some other capacity. In the past, I have observed students on stage crew have found that they work just as hard and find their experience just as rewarding! Not only does it help build confidence and learn to work as a team, many students have had a lot of fun doing it, while learning theater craft from the other side of the curtain. So, if for some reason, you don t find your name on the cast list please don t discount stage crew as an option for you for this year.
Thank you all very much and the Staff is looking forward to you putting your best foot forward at Auditions! See you there! GOOD LUCK! Please be prepared to meet these challenges before coming in to your audition. I understand the requirement of ad sales, ticket sales, and that I may have to provide portions of my costume or other designated items. CONFLICT Calendar If cast, and you list conflicts on this calendar, they are considered EXCUSED ABSCENCES! This calendar should be completed by you and your parents/guardians and should include any known conflicts that would stop you from attending rehearsals. Fill out this conflict calendar fully and detailed as you can! This is what we use to determine excused on unexcused absences. Please mark all conflict dates and times, through January 9 th on the calendar below. This would include vacations, day trips, weddings, in-school and community sports teams (practice and game schedules can be attached.), tutoring, music & dance lessons, babysitting, religious holidays, School trips, or any other type of conflict that may take place at these rehearsal times. Feel free to attach your own schedules to your audition packet. This information will be used to make up an appropriate rehearsal schedule. We will do our best to work around these conflicts when constructing our rehearsal calendar, but beginning January 9 th your conflicts work around us. NOTE TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN PLAYING A LEADING ROLE/GREASER: After completing the conflicts calendar, and have more than two nights a week marked off, please consider that you will be missing a major dance rehearsal or major singing rehearsal. Missing that much material each week may not make it worth your participation in the production. Weigh this heavily before auditioning, because the staff does. Based on a schedule like that we simply cannot consider you for a leading role. Even though you may feel you can learn a role and not be present at rehearsal remember that a professional production involves a TEAM of players, and your fellow cast members are dependent on you being where you are supposed to be. A major factor in a production not getting polished to a professional level is a cast that is erratic in attendance. If someone has a line to deliver to you, and you re not there, it makes it very difficult to stay in character and keep the scene running smoothly. In short, if we offer you a role, and you accept it, then you are definitely making a commitment to attend every rehearsal scheduled O.K., enough preaching - just want you to understand the importance. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
