SECTION A: THEORY OF MUSIC QUESTION 1 Study the excerpt from Coenie de Villiers s Namakwaland and answers the questions that follow:

1.3 Transposing Your school is having a music evening with an Afrikaans theme. Unfortunately your school does not have a choir. You have to transpose the marked alto part of bar 28, beat 4 to bar 32, beat 4 for flute and saxophone. This is a test to see if the instruments chosen will blend well with the solo voice singing the soprano line. Transpose the top alto voice an octave higher for the flute and the bottom alto voice a major 6 th up for the Eβ saxophone. (8) Flute Saxophone 1.4 Intervals 1.5 Triads Identify the marked intervals.
