The Great Gatsby When: Saturday, September 29th Time: 1:00pm Where: Library Screening Room In celebration of the PBS Great American Read program, we are featuring one of the top 100 reads of all time, The Great Gatsby. This 2013 motion picture, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald s famous novel, stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. The Great Gatsby follows writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922. Chasing his own American dream, Nick lands next door to Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her husband, Tom Buchanan. Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the rich and their loves and deceits. As he bears witness, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams, and tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles. Water and popcorn will be provided.

KNITTING GROUP When: Tuesdays Time: 6:30-8:15pm Registration: Not Required Whether you've been knitting for decades or days, join this welcoming group of knitters in the Library's Warren Room. Bring your latest project and join the group as they knit by the library fireplace every Tuesday evening. This is a drop in group, registration is not necessary. SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MOVIES Book Club When: Saturday, September 22nd Time: 1:00pm Where: Library Screening Room Our first movie of the fall season is the romantic comedy Book Club. This 2018 American romantic comedy is directed by Bill Holderman and stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburger. The four friends read Fifty Shades of Grey as part of their monthly book club, and subsequently begin to change how they view their personal relationships. Water and popcorn will be provided. QUILTING/SEWING PROJECT - FALL QUILTING BAGS When: Wednesday s - 10:00am - Noon Thursday's - 6:00pm - 8:00pm Registration: Yes, please call the Library or sign up at the front desk Would you like to learn how to quilt? Join local seamstress Cathlene Hartson as she teaches the basics of quilt making. This four session workshop will include demonstrations and hands-on work at Massena Public Library s new quilting lab. You will learn the techniques of quilting and work on your own quilt project. Register early; we have six available sewing machines and each class is limited to 8 students. Fall quilting Bags: From See & Sew B5596 You will need: 4 fat quarters (different colors) or 1/4 yard each (4 different colors) 2 fat quarters (same color) or 1/2 yard (same color) Lining 1/2 yard Fusible fleece 7/8 yard Sew-in interfacing 1 1/8 yard Thread

FALL BOOK SALE When: Tuesday, September 25 th (member s only sale) Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00pm When: Wednesday, September 26 th Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm Please join us at the Friends Fall book sale! Thanks to the generous donations of our patrons, the sale will offer many new selections in all areas. There will be a preview sale for members of the Friends of the Library on Tuesday, September 25 th, from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. For a fee of $5.00 anyone can become a member of the Friends of the Library and gain entrance to the preview sale. Membership forms are available at the library front desk, and at the book sale. OPEN SEWING LAB When: Wednesdays Time: 1:00pm-4:30pm When: Saturdays Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm Would you like to work on your sewing or quilting project in the Library s sewing lab? We ve established weekly open lab times to allow you to use the Library s sewing machines and equipment. Please register at the circulation desk and sign a waiver before you use the lab. For further information please contact the library. Join community members as they meet to sew together, and learn from one another. The library's sewing lab is equipped with six heavy duty Singer sewing machines, cutting mats, scissors, rotary cutters, irons & ironing boards - but please bring your own machine if you prefer! BOOK CLUB EVENING When: September 25th Time: 6:30pm -8:00pm Our Library Book Club selection for September is All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. This beautifully written novel won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and the 2015 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. Set in occupied France during World War II, the novel centers on a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths eventually cross.

FARMER S MARKET STORY TIME Date: September 13 th & September 20 th Time: 3:00pm Where: Tractor Supply Come sing and dance with the Massena Public Library as we enjoy some stories straight from the farm. Stories will be followed by a simple activity. FREE LEGO CLUB Date: September 15 th Time: 10:00am Children 6 and up are invited to join us for Lego club. The objects you build will be on display at the library. The library will have all the Legos you need so please do not bring your own. APPLE STAMPING Date: Saturday, September 15 th Time: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Ages 2-8: Scenes with apple stamps Ages 9+: Make your own carved apple stamp Have some fun as we welcome in fall. Using apples and finger paint we will create different scenes with apple stamps. This activity is free and open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The library will provide all supplies. Please wear a shirt you don't mind getting paint on! FINANCIAL LITERACY CLASS Date: Tuesday, October 2 nd Time: 6:00pm Ages: 16+ Cost: FREE Registration: Not required This is a class about financial literacy for upper teens and adults in which Jerry Manor, the Communications and Business Development Manager at Seacomm, will be teaching about budgeting, saving money, credit reports, and credit scores. This is a free class open to the public.

Tuesday & Wednesday @ 10:00a.m. Program designed for 2-5 year old children and their parent or caregiver. The program consists of storytelling, song, and a simple craft. Registration is not required for Storytime. For further information please call the library at 769-9914 or go to our website at: www.massenapubliclibrary.org Stories, Music, and Movement Together. Thursdays @ 10:00am Program designed for 0-2 year old children with their parent or caregiver. Library Babies is as much for you as for your child. Be prepared to sit with your baby on your lap and participate actively as we learn finger plays, movement, rhymes, and songs. Follow along together as we share some simple books. Expect some circle time followed by playtime and a chance for adults to chat. What s New:
