The customer is completely responsible for cutting the hole and installing the mounting brackets on the Model 966 Bookcheck. The 3M technician will complete the installation. Bookcheck Model 966 Site Preparation Figure 1. Model 966 Bookcheck The Bookcheck Model 966 can be installed on-counter or in-counter. In either case, the same placement requirements apply. When CRT monitors are placed close to the Model 966, the monitor screen may experience image interference, such as color distortion or flickering. This interference tends to decrease as the separation between the CRT monitor and the Model 966 is increased. The distance required to minimize or eliminate image interference varies from one CRT monitor to another. General guidelines are as follows: - To minimize image color distortion, CRT monitors should be placed at least 18 inches (457 mm) from the Model 966. - To minimize image flickering, CRT monitors should be placed at least 24 inches (610 mm) from the Model 966. - It may be necessary to increase these minimum distances until image interference disappears. - If a CRT monitor continues to experience image interference or if it must be located closer to the Model 966 than the minimum distances stated above, an LCD monitor can be used. LCD monitors are not affected by the Model 966. Keep all magnetic media at least 6 inches [152 mm] from the Model 966. 78-8123-7852-5, Rev. A, 060-A 1
If a bar code reader is to be used, the materials should pass under the bar code reader before they slide over the Bookcheck. The in-counter unit is factory assembled for processing books in a right-to-left motion. The unit can be modified by the 3M service technician for left-to-right motion when the electrical portion of the installation is completed. The in-counter unit should be installed with no modification by the customer. The 3M service technician will require access to the front and back of the electronic box. Refer to Section 1.0 for in-counter installation and Section 2.0 for on-counter installation. Figure 2. Bookcheck Model 966 Dimensions 2 78-8123-7852-5, Rev. A, 060-A
1.0 In-Counter Installation Note All dimensions given in this document are for reference only. You must use the template that comes with the machine for a guide to cut the hole in a counter top. This is to be used with a router for cutting the hole in the counter. For cutting the hole using a sabre saw, use the Model 966 itself as a pattern for outlining the area to be cut. 1. To physically install the Model 966 in-counter, the customer is responsible for: Cutting the hole in the circulation counter. Installing the mounting brackets. Looking under the counter to determine if the mounting area is clear of obstructions and support brackets. Ensuring there is adequate space beneath the counter top. The in-counter unit requires an 18 inch wide, 9 inch long, 7 inch deep space under the counter top. There must be no obstructions under the counter within 3 in. (76 mm) of the edge of the cut out. Space is required for mounting brackets. Allow room under the counter for the Bookcheck electronics box. The electronics box must be located to allow connection to the 6 foot [1,8 m] cable from the in-counter unit. Ensuring that power is within reach of the 6 foot [1,8 m] power cord, which comes from the electronics box. 2.0 On-Counter Installation To physically install the Model 966 on-counter, the customer is responsible for: Physically installing the upper unit on the counter. Physically installing the electronics box near the upper unit. Ensuring the cable (6 feet) from the upper unit will reach and is accessible to the electronics box. It is your option to drill a hole through the counter in a convenient place for this cable or to route the cable over the edge of the counter. This may result in the cable being in the work area. If the cable is routed through the counter, the customer is responsible for cutting the hole. Use a drill with a 2 inch [50 mm] diameter cutting blade to cut the hole. Allowing room under the counter for the electronics box: The electronics box must be located to allow connection to the 6 foot [1,8 m] cable from the upper unit. Power must be within reach of the 6 foot [1,8 m] power cord, which comes from the electronics box. 78-8123-7852-5, Rev. A, 060-A 3
