Lynn Public Schools Music Department Dr. Sabrina E. Quintana, PK-12 Director of Music (781) 477-7220, ext. 3210, QuintanaS@LynnSchools.org 100 Bennett Street, Lynn, MA 01905 September 2018 Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome to the new school year in Lynn Public Schools! The Music Department is happy to offer instrumental music lessons to students starting in the 4 th and 5 th grade during the school day. The instrumental music program is designed to prepare 4th and 5th grade students to participate in the Lynn Public Schools String Orchestra or Band. Learning to read music and learning to play an instrument helps students to better understand reading and math, helps them to gain self-confidence, and helps them to develop collaboration skills. We invite you to come to one of the following instrument rental night so you can (a) rent an instrument for your student, (b) meet the instrumental teachers, and (c) get your lesson time. 1. String instruments (violin, viola, cello) can be rented on Tuesday evening, September 25 th, 5:30-8:00 PM at Marshall Middle School, 100 Brookline St. String instruments will be offered for rent from Johnson String Company. 2. Band instruments (trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums and bells) can be rented on Wednesday evening, September 26 th, 5:30-8:00 PM at Breed Middle School, 90 O Callaghan Way. Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion instruments will be offered for rent from K&C Music Company. Please read the enclosed information and fill out ONE of the attached forms (Band OR Strings) and return it to your teacher or the school office tomorrow. We caution you about purchasing an instrument from a different place. You may be able to find cheaper instrument prices. However, these are usually instruments that are of poor quality that will never work correctly. Therefore, we encourage you to use our recommended vendors. Students should be present to select their instrument and to be sure the instrument fits them correctly. The instrumental teachers will also be there to meet the students and parents, and to give your student his or her assigned lesson time. We look forward to having your child in our instrumental music lesson program. If you have further questions, please contact us at the information shown above. Sincerely, Dr. Quintana
