FOREWORD Welcome to the 26th annual Newpark Music Festival. The festival will take place on the week beginning Monday 20th February in Newpark Music Centre, Newtownpark Avenue, Blackrock, Co. Dublin. The festival syllabus will only be available to download here. There are no hard copies available. The closing date for postal entries is Friday 27 th January 2017. Application forms can be downloaded here. Online entries may be made by clicking here and will close on Friday 3 rd of February 2017. For general rules and conditions click here. There will be no official accompanist provided. However the Festival organisers will be happy to nominate accompanists for competitors to contact. Entry fees for this years competitions are as follows: All solo competitions 18 Duet competitions 20 Ensemble competitions 25 The daily admission fee will be 5 for adults with children being admitted free. Season tickets will be available at a cost of 15 and will entitle the bearer to attend all competitions over the course of the festival. RULES AND CONDITIONS 1. All competitions must be entered for online at www.newparkmusic.ie or by post on an official entry form which can be downloaded from www.newparkmusic.ie 2. Entry fees must accompany completed entry forms. Entry fees will not be refunded unless a competition is cancelled. 3. The closing date for postal entries is Friday 27 th January 2017. Please forward entries to Newpark Music Centre, Newtownpark Avenue, Blackrock, Co. Dublin. 4.Online entries will close on Friday 3 rd February. No entries will be accepted after these dates. 5. Ages shall be reckoned from 1 st January 2017. 6. No candidate may enter a competition in which they won first prize in the previous year. 7. Where competitors are asked to play one piece, this means one short piece or one movement of a work. 8. Where there is a large entry for a given class, the competition will be divided into reasonable sizes, each being a separate competition. 9. Competitions will not be held unless they have three or more entries. 10. Copies of music to be performed should be provided for the adjudicator. 11. The adjudicator s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into, under any circumstances. 12. There will not be an official accompanist provided by the festival organisers, however, we will be happy to recommend accompanists to those interested.

PIANOFORTE COMPETITIONS Performers should present one piece of own choice. Competition No. 1. Under 8 2. Under 10 3. Under 12 4. Under 14 5. Under 16 6. Under 18 7. Adult Solo THE PRICHARD CUP (Grade 5 upwards) Presented in memory of John Stephens Prichard, to the most promising adult competitor. 8. COAKLEY FULLER CUP (14 and over) Presented by Ms. Elizabeth Fuller for the best performance of a piece from the Baroque Era. Candidates to present one piece, not exceeding 10 minutes.

9. JUNIOR PIANO SONATA CUP (Under 16) Presented by Evelyn Hearns for the best performance of a Sonata movement. Movement should not exceed 8 minutes. 10. SENIOR PIANO SONATA CUP (16 and Over) Presented by Ms. Evelyn Hearns for the best performance of a Sonata movement. Movement should not exceed 10 minutes. 11. JUNIOR PIANO REPERTOIRE The Fuller Trophy: Presented by Ms. Elizabeth Fuller. (Under 16) Performers should present a contrasting programme of at least three works. Performers will be judged on both choice of programme and performance. Performance is not to exceed 12 minutes. 12. SENIOR PIANO REPERTOIRE The Owen Walsh Perpetual Cup (16 and Over) Performers should present a contrasting programme of at least three works. Performers will be judged on both choice of programme and performance. Performance is not to exceed 15 minutes.

PIANO DUETS Performers should present one piece of own choice. Competition No. 13. Duets Under 12 14. Duets Under 14 15. Duets Under 16 16. Duets Under 18

STRING COMPETITIONS Performers should present one piece of own choice. All string competitions are open to violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar and harp. Competition No. 17. Under 8 18. Under 10 19. Under 12 20. Under 14 21. Under 16 22. Under 18

WIND AND BRASS COMPETITIONS Performers should present one piece of own choice. Open to all wind & brass instruments including recorder. Competition No. 23. Under 12 24. Under 14 25. Under 16 26. Under 18

Competition No. INSTRUMENTAL COMPETITIONS 27. JUNIOR INSTRUMENTAL REPERTOIRE (Under 16) Open to all instruments except piano. Performers should present a contrasting programme of at least three pieces. Performers will be judged on both choice of programme and performance. Performance is not to exceed 12 minutes. 28. SENIOR INSTRUMENTAL REPERTOIRE (16 and Over) Open to all instruments except piano. Performers should present a contrasting programme of at least three pieces. Performers will be judged on both choice of programme and performance. Performance is not to exceed 15 minutes. 29. ADULT INSTRUMENTAL Open to all instruments except piano. Performers should present one piece of own choice.

Competition No. INSTRUMENTAL DUETS Open to all instrumental duets and may include additional piano accompaniment. Performers should present one piece of own choice. 30. Under 16 31. 16 and over 32. THE CONCERTO CUP- THE EVELYN LEVINS PERPETUAL CUP Presented by Nuala Levins O Reilly for the best performance of a concerto movement. (18 and under) Open to all instruments including piano. Performers should present any movement from a concerto. Performance is not to exceed 15 minutes. (Cadenza where appropriate)

CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITIONS Performers should present one piece of own choice, which demonstrates the interplay between their instruments. A minimum of three instruments is required to form a chamber group. Open to string, wind and brass instruments as well as piano trios. 33. Junior Chamber Music Cup Under 16 Presented by Mr Michael d Arcy. Performance is not to exceed 10 minutes 34. Senior Chamber Music Cup Over 16 Presented by Mr Michael d Arcy. Performance is not to exceed 15 minutes.

ADULT VOCAL COMPETITIONS Performers should present one song of own choice. Competition No. 45. Adult Vocal Popular 46. Adult Vocal Classical - THE RUTH BEARE PERPETUAL CUP Presented by Ms. Sheila McCarthy to the most promising competitor in the Adult Solo Vocal Classical Category. 47. Adult Vocal Baroque Aria - THE MIGNON RUMBOLD MEMORIAL CUP Presented by Ms. Elizabeth Fuller, for the best performance of a Baroque Solo Aria. 48. Lieder Competition Competitors to perform two contrasting lieder by one of the following composers: Schubert; Schumann; Brahms; Wolf; Strauss or Mahler. (Not to exceed 6 minutes) 49. Adult Vocal Duets
