This is an uncommon surveying and map making book illustrated with fourteen plates showing various surveying instruments. There are several chapters on mapping the sea. Jacques Ozanam was a French Mathematician who was best known for his book Recreations, a book on mathematical recreations. He was also interested in cartography and military engineering and wrote many works on science and applications of mathematics including Methode de lever les plans et les cartes de terre et de mer originally published in 1691.
