POSTMARK DEADLINE: February 1, 2011 ALL UTSPS contests are judged double-blind by judges who are not members of UTSPS. 2. To contest as a MEMBER, annual dues ($25 regular; $15 student) must be postmarked by the 5 th day of January, 2011. For membership information, contact Rosalyn Ostler, email: rosieo1@juno.com or phone 801-943-4211. NON-MEMBERS are welcome to enter those marked NON-MEMBERS. 3. Any poem MUST: a. be the original work of the contestant b. follow line limit and form specified in each category. Line limit does NOT include title, epigraph, or blank lines. c. be unpublished at the time of entering. Exception: Pearle M. Olson Book Publication, see category #46. d. be titled. Exception: Haiku see #26 e. be in good taste f. not have won a cash award in any Utah contest g. be entered in ONE category. Exception: an unpublished poem included in the Olsen Book manuscript (see # 46) may be entered in one other category h. not be changed or withdrawn 4. Entry FEES: a. MEMBERS pay $15 to enter ONE poem per category in 15 or more categories. Exception: # 1 INTRODUCTION CONTEST. Members entering 14 or fewer poems must pay $1 per poem. Exception: Shoot For The Loot, #2. requires $5 per entry but has no entry limit Pearle M. Olsen Book Publication Award, #46, requires $20 reading fee with ONE entry limit. Exception: book entry fee must accompany manuscript to Book Chair. See #46 for details. d. Do NOT staple or tape entry fee to entries. 5. Proper PREPARATION of entries: a. Send two clear copies, single-spaced, standard font, typed on 8 ½ x 11 white paper without illustrations. No onionskin. b. One poem per page. In categories allowing a second page, staple pages. c. On BOTH copies, type category name and number in upper LEFT corner. When applicable--but especially when required in the category description-- identify the form in the upper LEFT corner under category number and name. 1

d. Leave one copy unidentified. On second copy, place these three pieces of information in upper RIGHT corner: name, address, phone number. e. SEPARATE originals from author-identified duplicates. STACK each group in numerical order, with original (no ID) stack on top. f. Type ONE 8½ x 11 cover page with name, address, phone number in upper RIGHT corner. List number of each category and title of poem entered in each. 6. BE GOOD TO YOURSELF; follow rules, guidelines, and limits. Any violation may disqualify the entire entry. Poems may be published and unpublished, but manuscript as a whole must be original and unpublished B. be single-spaced in clear black type C. have no more than one poem per page, on one side of paper D. have no more than 32 lines per page, with longer poems continued on subsequent page (s) E. contain a title page and a table of contents, not to be counted with the 50 pages of poems F. be in good taste G. have no illustrations, no bulky folders or binders, nor be bound or stapled (may be fastened with a large paper clip or binder clip) H. contain no author identification MANUSCRIPT MAY: A. have section pages, not to be counted in the 50 pages of poems B. contain previously published individual poems (permission for use not needed at this time) C. include poems which have won cash prizes D. contain poems which vary from traditional to modern E. include poems with a deft, light touch, but a complete collection of light verse or cowboy poetry will not be considered IDENTIFICATION ENVELOPE: (business size 4x9 unsealed) MUST: A. have author s name and title of book printed on the outside (FOR CHAIR ONLY) in case there are duplicate titles B. contain a card with the number and name of category, manuscript title, and the author s name, address, and phone number C. contain a short autobiography or career sketch D. contain two photos of the author E. contain sufficient stamps for return postage of complete manuscript MAILING/RETURN OF MANUSCRIPT: A. place manuscript, ID envelope, entry fee payable to UTSPS, and an adequate self-addressed envelope for return of manuscript (stamps in ID envelope) ALL in one envelope addressed to the chair. B. all but the first-place manuscript will be returned at the Awards Festival or by mail. 11

The Book Chair reserves the right to adjust the format of the winning book if necessary. Winner must be available through the summer of 2011 while the book is being prepared and printed, and must also attend certain special events. Winner must be present for the reading of the book at the October, 2011 Poetry Concert. The above requirements may be waived or modified in unusual circumstances, at the discretion of the Book Chair, officers of the Laureates, and the president of UTSPS. All entrants are encouraged to attend the April Awards Festival. NO EXCEPTIONS TO THESE RULES..
