BBC Northern Ireland On-screen Guidelines Section A Section A: General guidelines The following section details all guidelines relating to general onscreen branding elements for BBC Northern Ireland programmes, promotions and OSP materials.
BBC Northern Ireland On-screen Guidelines 1.0 Background The green background has been created to follow the print design principals of the channel brands. Green is used as a brand statement rather than a mood or setting for the animated logo. BBC NI Green Channel brand background : BBC Living Green R176 G191 B39 C23 M0 Y100 K17 Pantone 583c 4
BBC Northern Ireland On-screen Guidelines 2.0 Colour A special colour graduation called BBC NI Living Green is used for all on-screen branding, except for opening branding sequences and production endboards. The colour has been developed for use in backgrounds to communicate depth. Living green reflects off the green brand symbol used in the principal animation, further enriching the brand s on-screen presence. For a full breakdown of BBC Northern Ireland s colour palette and values, please refer to the off-air guidelines. BBC Living Green 5
BBC Northern Ireland On-screen Guidelines 3.0 Symbol A special version of the BBC Northern Ireland logo has been designed for use on-screen. This version is created from a two-dimensional form that embodies the values, behaviours and characteristics of the BBC Northern Ireland brand, creating an identity with strength and confidence. Until the brand is established, only the principal animation should be used on-screen and only as described in these guidelines. BBC Northern Ireland symbol Frames from the principal animation 6
BBC Northern Ireland On-screen Guidelines 4.0 Principal Animation The principal animation defines BBC Northern Ireland s on-screen identity. It introduces BBC Northern Ireland content through a dynamic representation of the logo; made up of the symbol and signature. All on-screen branding components are derived from the principal animation. The symbol, BBC blocks and Northern Ireland signature should never appear independent from one another. BBC Northern Ireland On-screen Guidelines 5.2 Closing Credits Credits must be made up in the existing format for programmes on BBC1 and BBC2. End Credits should run over visually interesting graphics or live action but the content must not be editorially critical to the integrity of the programme or include speech as they may be squeezed to accommodate promotional messages. Programme trails, solicits or helplines edited by production into their end credits are no longer allowed. These guidelines do not currently apply to Sport, Live Entertainment shows, or Children s programmes. End Credits should be delivered justified to the centre and may be either cards or a vertical scroller. End credits should not be squeezed or cropped. They should be 25 to 30 seconds in duration across all genres and channels. Exceptions are Live Sport and Entertainment shows where credits can be shorter, and Childrens programmes where they should be 20. Credits are solely to recognise significant creative contribution to the programme. No exceptions will be allowed. Under no circumstances should credits be given in return for payment, reduced fee, or benefit. Credit music can continue until the end of the end-board but there should be no programme sync or speech. 11
