INTRODUCTION This manual provides the guidelines for the students about preparing and submitting theses and in a format acceptable to Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE). The contents include all the details starting from writing style to the required forms and certificates. The students are required to submit an electronic version of their thesis (approved by the Librarian) to their respective departments. The thesis format instructions are available on the Institute website for guidance. Areas not covered in this document or deviation from any of the specifications should be discussed with the Head of the respective department. Students should not use previously accepted thesis as definite model for style. STRUCTURE A: Thesis The manuscripts should contain four sections. Details of these sections are listed below: Section 1: Preliminary Pages (For sample page please see the relevant Appendix) Section 2: Text Title Page (required)* : Appendix 2 Copyright (only for Ph.D.)* : Appendix 6 Dedication : Appendix 7 Certificate(By the candidate)* : Appendix 8 Certificate(By the Guide(s))* : Appendix 9 Certificate(By the Head of the Department)* : Appendix 10 Candidate s resume* Acknowledgment : Appendix 11 Table of Contents* : Appendix 12 List of Tables* : Appendix 13 List of Figures* : Appendix 14 List of Abbreviations/Nomenclature/Symbols (optional) Introduction (may be referred to as Chapter 1)* Body of Manuscript* Section 3: References* : Appendix 16 Section 4: Appendices B: Synopsis Synopsis not more than 1000 words for hard copy (separately bound) and not more than 250 words for electronic copy (in CD) should be prepared. The synopsis should contain the following two documents: 1. Cover page (Sample page in Appendix 2) 2. Synopsis text including 3 to five keywords (Sample page in Appendix 4) 2

Remark 1. Thesis cover format should be as shown in Appendix 1 2. Information marked with Asterisk (*) is compulsory in nature MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION The manuscript must be printed on 8 ½ x 11 inch executive bound white paper. Title Pages Title pages should have original signature of the guide(s). Spacing between texts on the title page may vary according to the length of the title. Sample title page is shown in Appendix 2. Font Times New Roman font should be used throughout the thesis consistently. Font size should be 10 to 12 point for all text, including titles and headings. The scholar can change font size in tables, figures, captions and appendix material. Retain the same font, wherever possible. When charts, graphs, or spreadsheets are imported, alternate fonts may be used. Italics are appropriate for scientific terminology. Boldface may be used within the text for emphasis and/or for headings and subheadings. Use both in moderation. Margins All matters of the thesis should be printed on 8½ 11 inch executive bond paper. Measure the top margin from the edge of the page to the top of the first line of text. Measure the bottom page margin from the bottom of the last line of text to the bottom edge of the page. It is recommended to have left margins of 1-1/2 inches; top, bottom, and right, 1 inch. Page numbers do not need to meet the 1" margin requirement The right margins should be justified. Pagination The first page of the thesis is the title page but the page number should not be printed on this page. All other pages should have a page number in the centre at the bottom of the page. Lowercase Roman numerals (i, ii, iii,.) should be used for the preliminary pages and Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3,..) should be used from the beginning of the of the text. Pages are numbered consecutively throughout the remainder of the manuscript. Kindly note, that the page number should not be mentioned on the beginning page of each chapter in the text. One and half spacing should also occur before each first-level and second-level heading, and before and after tables and figures embedded in the text. Numbering Schemes Chapters should be identified with uppercase Roman numbers (I, II, III etc.). Tables, figures, and equations should be numbered consecutively throughout the manuscript with Arabic numerals (1,2,3, ). Equation numbers should be placed to the right of the equation and contained within parentheses or brackets. Use uppercase letters to designate appendices. Reference Format Suggested format for referencing an article in a scientific journal should contain the following information: authors, year, title, name of journal, volume number and page numbers. Suggested format for referencing an article published in a book should contain, authors, year, title of the book, editors, publisher, page number of the article in the book being referred to. Suggested format for referencing a thesis should contain, author, year, title of the thesis, where thesis was submitted or awarded. SAMPLE OF SYNOPSIS IN HARD COPY Appendix 4 A THREE DIMENSIONAL KINEMATIC ANALYSIS OF LONG JUMP Bhanu Pratap Thesis under the guidance of Prof. A.S. Sajwan Synopsis The purpose of the study was to determine a relationship of kinematic analysis of long jump performance. Five Long Jumpers were selected who studied at Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior. The subject s were ranging from 17-25 years. The unstandardized and standardized coefficients in all the models were known as B and by β coefficients respectively. In third model, t- value for all the three regression coefficients were significant as their significance values (p value) were less than 0.05. Thus, it might be concluded that variables, Right Knee angle, Vertical Velocity and Right Pelvis significantly explained the variation in long jump performance. Keyword: logistic model, heart rate, biomechanics Approved: Date: Signature 1-------------------------------------------- -------------------------- Supervisor Name: Signature 2-------------------------------------------- -------------------------- Supervisor Name: Remark: The synopsis should not be more than 1000 words 10

Appendix 16 SAMPLE PAGE FOR QUOTING REFERENCES IN THESIS Raja (2012) 17 conducted a survey study on attitude towards sports of rural people. The purpose of the study was to find out the attitude of rural people towards sports. To achieve this purpose, 200 male and 200 female subjects were randomly selected from four villages in Chidambaram Taluk, Tamilnadu. Kristiansen and Roberts (2009) 18 revealed that Elite adolescent sport is a relatively unexplored research field. The purpose of this investigation was to examine how the Norwegian Olympic Youth Team (N=29) experienced competitive and organizational stress during the European Youth Olympic Festival in July 2007 and how they coped with the stressors. Participants were aged 14 17 years and competed in handball, track and field, swimming, and judo. Kristina et al. (2010) 19 conducted that this study and concurrently explored multiple dimensions of social support of nine elite female adolescent swimmers. Data were collected and analyzed using the principle of constructivist phenomenology. Remark: Names should be hyperlinked 23
