Fras (coming from the Gàidhlig for a shower ) are a fresh, dynamic Highland quintet playing West coast music with a unique flair and drive from accordion, guitar, bagpipes, banjo and flute. Formed in early 2014, Fras have been giving energetic and uninhibited performances at ceilidhs, concerts and festivals across the Highlands. The close-harmony female vocal group began with four friends from music college improvising on well-known swing melodies, drawing on inspiration from war-time performers such as The Andrews Sisters and adding a glamorous twist to acapella arrangements. Come and join them over a light lunch for an hour long concert. Rhona Coogan grew up in Breakish, South Skye. She moved to Cardiff in 2011 to take up a place on the Vocal Studies programme at the prestigious Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The musicianship is dazzling even when the tone is understated and in the gentlest of nice and easy does it grooves. Golden-haired Russell delivers his rock n roll in crowned-king crooner style as his monstrously talented sidekicks take virtuoso into a stratosphere that lies somewhere between JJ Cale and the very best Gyspy Jazz you ever heard. decarle famously fronted iconic country roots band Prairie Oyster and is a classy cat whose heart knows how to deliver a lyric. All three have served their time this is old-school masterclass. Kevin Henderson (Fiddlers Bid, Boys of the Lough and Session A9 ) hails from Shetland; Olav Luksengard Mjelva is an award winning fiddle player from Norway and Anders Hall is an acclaimed exponent of the Swedish fiddle tradition. Combined as The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc they skilfully weave the many components of their three musical cultures and traditions together in a hugely atmospheric and dynamic fashion, all laced through with liberal helpings of humour for good measure. Any lover of great quality fiddle music and playing should not miss The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc in concert. A welcome return to the SEALL stage after their last visit exactly 3 years ago. In the last ten years, Bruce has gained an ever greater profile as a result of his solo tours, his regular appearances at the Celtic Connections Festival, his TV appearances, recordings and last year s tour, all badged as The Transatlantic Sessions. A very welcome return for Diptesh Bhattacharya, a rising star in the galaxy of Indian Classical Music. He won the hearts of our audiences a few years ago, with his personal style, unique tonal quality as well as the gayaki aang baaj the ability to play and sing through their instrument with the versatility of the human voice. This Acadian band mixes rhythms and irresistible dancing and climbing notes and voices to the sky high voltage musicians. Who is the Brontes mysterious neighbour, Mr. Moorcock of Ravaged Heath House, and what does the maniacal laughter coming from his attic mean? Do unfulfilled souls really wander over the wild and heather-clad moors? Who should Cathy marry, Heathcliff or David Niven? Peopled with some of the great characters from the Bronte canon and some, quite frankly that LipService have made up Withering Looks is an irreverent and hilarious theatre event to savour.
