The basics of cold reading
The basics of cold reading 1. Read through the script several times 2. Look for clues as to who the characters are and 3. why they are interacting in this scene 4. Figure out what s at stake 5. What are you in the scene to do? What s your goal? 6. Where are you? Picture it. Be in that place. 7. Analyze the text for beats. 8. Don t memorize, but know it very well. 9. Have the script in front of you during the audition. It s ok to refer to it.
Audition tips 1. Know that the audition starts when you enter the building. 2. Get yourself together! 3. Get your copy first and then sign in when you are ready! 4. Relax. 5. Stay out of the chit chat in the waiting room. 6. Walk into the scene not the audition room and be in character. 7. Put your stuff either outside in the waiting room or right inside the door. 8. Have your headshot stapled to your resume in your hand as you walk in the door. 9. No small talk. Do your business. 10. Practice slating, so it s crisp. Be in character.
Audition tips 11. Have the script in front of you during the audition. It s ok to refer to it. 12. Breathe 13. Really listen to your scene partner or reader. 14. Make a strong choice and go with it! 15. Be ready to take direction 16. Have fun!
