Come to the reptile show at the Lowell Public Library on Wednesday, August 10, at 11 AM, and do the counting. Dave DiNaso s Traveling World of Reptiles show is sure to thrill the crowd. In addition to being educational, Dave s program is also loaded with laughs and interactive moments with his audience. This event is open to children and adults alike, and is the Grand Finale of the Duck, Duck, Read! Summer Reading Club program. Back to School Winter Hours Where did the summer go? Our Shelby and Schneider branches will start their winter hours on Wednesday, August 24, the first day back to school for students in the Tri- Creek area. The Young Adult Department is asking community residents for donations of unwanted household items to help raise money for young adult programming at the library. Donations will be taken from Thursday, August 4 - Tuesday, August 9, during regular library hours. Toys, games, exercise equipment, outdoor materials, tools, decorative pieces, holiday items, DVD s, VHS tapes, cassettes, books, books-on-tape, etc., are appreciated. Small items of furniture or appliances can be accepted, but no large items of this kind can be taken. Items should be clean and in working order. And please, no personal items. The rummage sale will be held Thursday, August 11 through Saturday, August 13, and is the Young Adult Department s biggest fundraiser of the year.

Free Computer Classes Free Computer Basics are offered on Mondays; Internet Basics on Wednesdays; and Word or Excel on Fridays at 11 AM. Evening classes are held each Tuesday at 6 PM. Preregistration is required. Library Quilters Monday, August 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, at 9 AM. Learn to quilt! Share what you know with the group or work on your projects. Stamping and Card Making Thursday, August 4, at 6:15 PM. Create 1-2 handmade items! Bring scissors. A $5 fee will cover all other materials, including adhesive needed for the projects. Pre-register. Lowell Adult Programs Library Board Meeting The regular meeting of the Lowell Public Library Board of Trustees will be held on Monday, August 15, at 7 PM. Blood Pressure/Glucose Testing Wednesday, August 17, 9 AM - 11 AM. Free blood pressure and glucose screenings are offered by Clinical Management Services of Demotte. A combined cholesterol test is also available for a $5.00 fee. Making Sense of Retirement Thursday, August 18, at 6 PM. Learn about the options you can use now to save for retirement and how time can help or hurt your goals. This free program will be presented by Brenda Goeken, Financial Advisor at Edward Jones in Demotte. Pre-register at the circulation desk. Knit/Crochet/Cross Stitch Tuesday, August 2 and 16, at 6 PM. Learn to knit, crochet, and cross stitch on the first and third Tuesdays each month. Friends Picnic Planned The Friends of the Library will hold their annual potluck picnic at the Spencer House on Sunday, August 7, at 1 PM. Bring a dish to share. New members are always welcome to attend. Call Tom Spencer at 696-3338 for more information. In Focus Digital Photography Club Wednesday, August 10, at 6 PM. Learn what s new in digital photography the second Wednesday of each month. Discover ways to take better pictures. Share your knowledge with everyone. Poetry Group Saturday, August 20, 10 AM - 1 PM. The August library tours will be on Monday, August 29, at 11 AM and 4 PM. Donate to the Lowell Health Care Center We now accept donations on behalf of the Lowell Health Care Center. Donations of shampoo, hairspray, lotion, Puffs tissues, and other toiletries are welcomed as well as beanie babies, large print playing cards, and puzzles. Thank you! Just a Few Notes... Photographs We often take photographs at library events. These pictures are used for publicizing the library and its programs. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know. Thumbs Up? Wireless Access One of the popular features at the library is the Wi-Fi access. Bring your wireless- enabled laptop and relax while you surf the World Wide Web or e-mail. The library also has 13 public internet access computers for library patrons to use. Wireless access is also available at the Shelby and Schneider Branches. Fax Service and Public Scanner available at library The Lowell Public Library now provides public fax service at the reference desk. Fax fee is $1 per page for faxes sent in the U.S. A scanner for public use is located in the reference department s Redbud room.

Just for Kids (Preschool through the fifth grade) Mini Carnival Play games and win fun prizes on Thursday, August 4, at 10:30 AM or 1:30 PM. You must preregister for either session. Space is limited. Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult. Design Your Own Craft Come to the library on Tuesday, August 2, at 10:30 AM or 1:30 PM and design your own craft using our supplies and your imagination! Please pre-register for either session. Back to School Bingo Play bingo on Thursday, August 18, at 10 AM or 3 PM, and win back-to-school supplies! Preregister at the circulation desk for either session. The Lowell Public Library and its Schneider and Shelby Branches will be closed on Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day and will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 6.
