3 ORAL EXPRESSION INTERVIEW OF A STAR Thanks to this exercise of oral expression, students will have the opportunity to practise different lexical and grammatical elements. Student A Student B Student A, as a journalist, will have to form questions using different question words as well as various tenses: simple past, present perfect, simple present and the future. Student B, the rock star, will equally use different tenses to talk about his/her biography, their latest achievements, their projects,... Question tags could also be useful in the dialogue. Revise the question words, question tags and the uses and forms of the tenses if necessary. The lexical themes of the daily routine, the professions, the hobbies, the travels,... will definitely be useful. 1) Divide the class into 2 groups: students A and students B 2) Hand out the contexts and tasks corresponding to teach role 3) After a minute preparation, make Students A meet Students B for a 10 minute conversation. Depending on the level of your students, you can invite students B to use the biographical information presented in the "culture part" making them Bono, Dolores O'Ryan,..., to research information on the internet about their own favourite singer or to imagine the life of a completely fictional character. 4) At the end of the conversation you may consider doing the same exercise again making Students A become Students B. 6
CULTURE DISCOVERING IRELAND, A COUNTRY OF LEGENDS Thanks to this quiz your students will have fun while learning cultural and historical facts about Ireland. 1) Divide the class into groups and choose a captain for each team. To make it easier to run, don't have more than groups. 2) Explain the guidelines: You will go through different activities (video watching and reading exercises). Students have to remember as much information as they can. They could imagine a strategy, for example: A will take down notes about the dates, B about the places, C the name of the people mentioned etc. After each document students will have to answer questions. You can choose to give them the questions in a written document or ask them orally. After conferring with their team members, the captain gives an answer to the teacher. He or she can blow a whistle, raise his/her hand,... that's up to you! The first team to give the correct answer wins a point. 3) The losing team will have to sing a song like live musicians would do in any Irish pub. A karaoke version could be found. 7

Context: If Ireland is well-known for its weather, beers and mythology, the history of rock music wouldn't have been the same without Irish bands... and Matt and Aoife could only agree with that.
