What is PTP? IEEE 1588 (Precision Time Protocol) is standardized since 2002 Version 1 of the protocol is used for applications in: Industries (e.g. Automation) Test and measurement Power networks Military and Avionic Version 2 is released since June 2008 and is made for applications in: Telecom (Profile under development) Broadcasting Power and Utilities slide 4
What s new in PTP v2? PTPv2 meets accuracy for telecom applications High refresh rates up to 64 or 128 messages per second Correction field for asymmetric measurements Multicast and Unicast or Mixed are available Manual and Automatic Master Clock selection methods slide 5
What are the advantages of PTP? It supplies Frequency, Phase and Time-of-day. It can replacing any GNSS sync solution. It works over almost any IP switch and router. There is no need to buy compliant NE like SyncE No need to install an Antenna at each Base Station or NodeB The sync signal is carried over the network. No risk of Jamming The PTP systems can be totally or partially without antenna. It is standardized by ITU-T PTP IEEE is universal unlike any Proprietary Solution slide 6

OSA PTP Studies Since 2004, Oscilloquartz has performed many studies and simulations on PTP Oscilloquartz is participating in and leading several conferences, presentations and seminars on NGN and PTP, such as ITU-T Group 15. Advanced software has been developed to precisely simulate the operating conditions and limitations of PTP v2 Simulation software showing packet delay variation on coloured points slide 8
1st Units released in 2008: OSA PTP FTU Oscilloquartz released in 2008 the PTP Field Trial Units (FTU) including a PTP Grandmaster and Slave for live testing. Several Field Trials have already been performed FTUs have proven OSA s excellence and expertise in Frequency & Timing to leading companies in the domain of Telecom, Broadcasting and Utilities. OSA is proud that its FTUs have been selected amongst the best performing PTP Grandmaster and Slave equipment every time. slide 9
