Used by ermission o the author David llan Evans (b. 190) was greatly inluenced by his ather, a newsaer ressman at he ioux City Journal and a sel-educated writer and scholar. Entering college on a ootball scholarshi, Evans was writing oems and stories by the time he graduated. His assion or oetry eventually led to his becoming roessor o English and writing at outh Dakota tate University or nearly our decades. Evans writings have aeared in over 0 anthologies, and he has authored or edited seven other books. His nine collections o oetry include his most recent book, he Carnival, he Lie. he oet laureate o outh Dakota or a eaarer dozen years, his many Press awards include a National Endowment or the rts Grant and two Fulbright cholarshis to China. Now retired rom university work, he makes his home where Nebraska, Iowa and outh Dakota meet at a bend in the Missouri River.
