Sharing the Magic of Live Theatre Welcome to The Acting Company! We are your non-profit community theater in Yuba City, California. About 26 years ago, a group of local artists joined to form Theatre 86 with the goal of finding a theater building by 1986. They produced plays throughout the community to raise the funds needed and although they didn t find a building by 1986, they did eventually secure our current location at 815 B Street in Yuba City in 1992. The group officially changed their name to The Acting Company and for the past 17 years we have been sharing the magic of live theater with the Yuba-Sutter community in our own little home. The Acting Company has operated on 100% volunteer work since its inception and finally we took a huge leap forward by hiring a part-time theater manager. Our box office is open Mondays through Fridays from 12-2 p.m. to sell tickets, take your reservations, and help you with any question you might have. In 2007, under the auspices of Magic Theatre, we began offering children s theater performances for young audiences. For 2010, our children s theater features seven productions, continuing with performances on selected Saturday afternoons at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. We will also continue to offer workshops for young actors. We are excited to offer military discounts in addition to our special rates for seniors, children and students. Our discounts are available for opening weekends. For selected shows, discounts are offered for the entire run of that show. In the past decade we have been nominated for dozens of Elly Awards by the Sacramento Area Regional Theater Alliance, and have won 11 of the prestigious theater awards. The Acting Company shares the magic of live theater by supporting the Yuba-Sutter community with six full-scale productions each year, entertainment at local events, children s theater, acting workshops, the rental of costumes and props, and donating performances to local non-profits. The magic of theater doesn t happen without the support of our patrons and local businesses. Thanks to you, we can continue to produce quality performing arts and offer opportunities that bolster teamwork, imagination, confidence, and artistic talent. In this brochure, you will find many ways to get more involved in your local theater. Feel free to contact us at anytime! Sincerely, Bob Harlan, President The Acting Company PG. - 2 THE ACTING COMPANY 2010 SEASON BROCHURE VISIT US ONLINE AT: WWW.ACTINGCOMPANY.ORG

26 Years Ago! From modest beginnings in 1983, a group of passionate optimists who called themselves Theater 86, (--the projected date of acquisition of a theater building--), started a movement that evolved into The Acting Company we know and love today. The sought after theater building was acquired in 1992 and is The Acting Company s home at 815 B Street, a former grocery store, restaurant, photography studio and catering service. Through the efforts of The Acting Company the building has been fully renovated and modernized into a single purpose theater. The company has grown and gained a welldeserved reputation for quality productions and has garnered a good number of awards in the Sacramento region. Not resting on its laurels, The Acting Company strives to reach the stars taking its company from community to regional theater and beyond. Auditions The Acting Company is always looking for new actors and new volunteers. We encourage anyone and everyone to join us at our open auditions-no experience necessary! At most auditions you are simply asked to read a short scene from the play and you will be given several chances to read the scene again with other actors playing the other parts in the scene. When we re auditioning for a musical the director will ask you to sing a short portion of a song if you want to be considered for a singing role. Our auditions are very casual and we will do everything we can to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Please join us and become part of the magic of live theater. To learn more visit the website or call the theater at 530.751.1100 Website Everything you need to know about The Acting Company is on our website at www.actingcompany.org. Need to rent costumes, rent the theater, rent an actor as entertainment for your function? Or maybe you want to sign up for children s theater, find out about upcoming auditions or browse through photos from past productions of The Acting Company. Go on-line and get all the info you need and more. You can also purchase tickets to any of our Main Stage performances, and contact us via e-mail on our website. Sponsorships & Advertising Sponsorships Our ticket sales only cover the cost of royalties that s the price we pay just to have the rights to produce a particular show. Without the help of our donors and sponsors, we would not be able to pay the light bill or afford sets and costumes. We hope that your business will want to benefit from the opportunities offered to production sponsors. Our sponsors are given a free performance to which they can invite employees, clients, friends and family. Or as many sponsors have done donate the performance to a local school so that students may enjoy a live theater experience. Sponsors also receive much recognition by inclusion on all posters, programs (ad on the back cover), advertising, newsletters and on our website. Many businesses also partner with other local businesses to help us pay for the cost of a show. Advertising By advertising in our theater programs, you help us pay for the cost of printing, and you reach up to 1,000 patrons per show that s 6,000 for the year. The cost for advertising is very reasonable! These are the ad sizes available: Full Page ad Half Page ad Quarter Page ad (3-4 week run) Quarter Page ad (6 week run) Back Cover (if no sponsor) If you purchase an ad for the entire season, you get a 15% discount. Contact our Marketing Director at The Acting Company to purchase your ad. We can create your ad for you just let us know what you want it to say. Cast of Death Takes a Holiday, March 1999. Volunteers There is much more to the theater process than a director putting a group of actors on stage. The Acting Company has always relied on its volunteers, which includes those actors and that director. To make it easier for you to be part of theater s rewarding experience, we have created a volunteer program. We will have regular meetings, rewards for volunteer hours contributed and an annual recognition gathering for volunteers. We offer many different opportunities for the community to become involved. There is a place for every possible skill and some will discover skills they didn t know they possessed. Set construction, painting, costumes, props, lights and sound are all areas where assistance is appreciated. Every production needs a stage manager, that person who manages all backstage activities (making sure everyone has their props and costumes, and that they pay attention to their stage entrances), and in essence serves as assistant director. Publicity is another aspect of every show this includes putting up posters around town, assistance in the mailing of newsletters, and anything to get out the word. Integral to every production is the house manager this is the person who handles the lobby before a performance, selling tickets and setting out the refreshments for intermissions. And fund-raising, though not connected to any particular production, is always an area that calls for a special talent. Training, when necessary, will be offered in all these areas for those interested. This is a great way to meet people who share your interest and to do something special for your community as well. Pick up a volunteer form at the box office or from our website. Contact the theater for further information, or to be included at a volunteer meeting.
