Getting Set Up Welcome to Easy Classical s Music with History! Our goal is to bring music and history to life as you travel through time and around the globe learning about the origin, development, and uses of music of the peoples you are studying. As you Hi! I m work your way through each lesson, you Maestro, your music will systematically cover six of the nine tour guide. National Standards for Music Education developed by the National Association for Music Education. You are encouraged to take private music lessons and/or join with other young musicians in a choir, band, or orchestra. There are some things in music that you can only learn by making music yourself, especially when part of a group of musicians! Hi, I m Maestro, your music tour guide. You will be my apprentice learning the characteristics of music, two of its forms, instrument classification, and writing/reading skills as you travel through centuries and across continents. I am a world time traveler, and have quite a collection of instruments from all over the world. I have studied the music of every civilization from the beginning of time. I love music and hope that you will come to love it, too. As a conductor of an orchestra, I will help you make many instruments this year. Gather the needed supplies and be ready for a musical adventure! Music Supplies Most of the supplies you will need this year can be found in your home. Every lesson except the first will list what you need for the following one. Some of the instruments that we will be making will use containers that held food in them. To avoid tossing something you will need, check the projects for lessons 2, and 5 through 11. You will need to purchase or borrow CDs for lessons 6 and 8: Britten s Young Person s Guide to the Orchestra and Tchaikovsky s The Nutcracker. Easy Classical Music page 1
