Ths apples equally for TV, vdeo and accessores. Nether the technology nor the desgn are an end n themselves but serve to gve our customers pure watchng and lstenng enjoyment. We have not allowed ourselves to be led astray by short-lved fashon trends n the desgn. You have, after all, purchased a hgh-qualty pece of equpment whch you don t want to get tred of lookng at tomorrow or the day after. About the set We have desgned the TV set n such a way that t s easy to operate wth menus. If you need nformaton about how to operate t, just dsplay the nfo texts wth the button, you wll soon get a grasp of the relatonshps. You wll fnd the answers to many techncal questons n the ndex of your TV set. If t s a matter of operatng the TV, you can access a functon drectly from the ndex. Ths saves you from havng to read through detaled operatng nstructons and s the reason why ths operatng manual you are readng only explans the most mportant operatng steps. Wth the remote control, you can operate three Loewe unts, ths TV, a Loewe vdeo recorder and a Loewe DVD player. TV equpment Ths operatng manual descrbes the maxmum equpment. Functons marked by are not avalable n all TV sets. The llustrated menu contents may vary dependng on the TV equpment. You can fnd out what equpment your TV has n the man nformaton Techncal spec. of TV set. Setup and cleanng Please note that the feet of the TV set could leave marks on soft wood furnture (e.g. deal, pne, fr etc.) due to the weght and movng the set about. The plastc materal of the feet contans softeners whch could n some cases etch the surfaces of furnture. In such cases you should place a frm underlay about the same sze as the base of the TV set underneath t. Please also read and observe the safety nstructons on the followng pages. ake sure no brght lght or sunlght falls on the screen and mpars the pcture by reflectons. Clean the TV set only wth a damp, soft, clean cloth (never use aggressve or abrasve cleanng agents). Dsposal Packng and box You have chosen a very hgh-qualty, longlastng pece of techncal equpment. In complance wth natonal regulatons, we have pad a fee to authorzed dsposal companes who wll collect the packng from the dealers. Nevertheless we recommend that you keep the orgnal box and packng materal so that the TV set has optmum protecton f you have to transport t. The TV set Please consult your dealer for envronmentally frendly dsposal of the TV set. 6
For your own safety For your own safety and n order to avod unnecessarly damagng your TV set, please read and observe the followng safety nstructons: Ths TV set s desgned exclusvely for recevng and reproducng audo and vsual (AV) sgnals. It s desgned for the home or offce and may not be used n rooms wth hgh humdty (e.g. bathroom, sauna) or a hgh concentraton of dust (e.g. workshops). If the TV set s occasonally used outdoors, you should make sure that s protected from water (ran, splashng, dew). Hgh mosture and dust concentratons produce creep currents n the set whch can lead to danger of electrc shock or fre. The manufacturer s warranty s only vald for use of the TV set n the specfed permssble envronment. Ths set may only be connected to a power supply wth the voltage and frequency specfed on the ratng plate usng the enclosed power cable. The wrong voltages can damage the set. If the set s moved from a cold envronment to a warm room, condensaton forms on all parts of the set. osture produces creep currents n the set whch can cause a fre. In ths case, you should leave the set for a reasonable tme to acclmatze (when the condensaton on the screen has evaporated) before swtchng t on. Lke every pece of electronc equpment, your TV needs ar for coolng. Obstructng the ar supply to the set can cause fres. The ar vents on the back of the TV set must always be kept free. Do not leave newspapers or cloths lyng on the TV set. The ar supply s also mpared when the TV set s placed on a blanket or a thck ple carpet. 5 cm 10 cm 5 cm If the TV set s placed n a cabnet or on a shelf, at least 5 cm clearance at the sdes and at least 10 cm at the top must be left to allow ar to crculate. Stand the TV set n a place where t s not exposed to drect sunlght or addtonal heatng from radators. agnetc felds nfluence the pcture qualty of the TV set. Do not place loudspeakers or other magnetc sources mmedately next to the TV set. Avod droppng metal objects, needles, paper clps, lquds, wax or smlar nto the ar vents at the back of the set. Ths causes short crcutng of the set and could start a fre. If anythng should get nsde the set, swtch t off mmedately, pull out the plug and call the after-sales servce to check t. Do not place vases flled wth water, lghted candles etc. on the top of the TV set. 7
For your own safety You should never attempt to remove the rear panel of the TV yourself. The set operates wth hgh voltages whch could be fatal. Leave repars and servcng of your TV set to authorzed TV techncans. Due to the pcture tube, TV sets have ther center of gravty farly near to the front. The TV set therefore has a tendency to tp forward relatvely easly whch could cause njury to persons. Only stand the TV set on a level, frm base. The set must stand on all feet. The TV should not overhang partcularly when t s placed n a cabnet or on a shelf. If the TV s placed on a stand, makes sure ths s larger than the surface area of the base of the TV. When usng turntables and drawer shelves, make sure they have a suffcent load capacty. We recommend you to use only orgnal parts, e.g. Loewe racks and stands. If the TV set s placed on a console wth castors, move the console carefully because the console and the TV could tp over. Consoles wth castors may consderably reduce the stablty of the sets placed on them so only use consoles specally desgned and approved for the TV. Never allow chldren to handle the TV set unsupervsed. Do not allow chldren to play close to the TV set, they could knock, push or pull t from the stand and njure someone. Do not place the TV anywhere where t may be exposed to vbratons because ths can lead to overloadng of materals. Do not leave the TV on unsupervsed. Pull out the antenna and mans plugs durng a thunderstorm. Surge voltages from lghtng strkes can damage the set both through the antenna system and the mans. You should also pull out the antenna and mans plugs durng long perods of absence. The mans plug of the TV must be easly accessble so that t can be dsconnected from the mans quckly at any tme. Lay the power cable so that t cannot be damaged. The power cable may not be knked or lad over sharp edges, and may not be walked over or exposed to chemcals; the latter apples for the entre TV set. A power cable wth defectve nsulaton can lead to electrc shocks and s a fre rsk. When you pull out the mans plug, do not tug the cable but hold the housng of the plug. The cables n the mans plug could be damaged and cause a short crcut the next tme t s plugged n. 8

Push the cover of the battery compartment down and remove t. Insert the batteres of the alkalne manganese type LR 03 (AAA) wth the correct polarty (+/ ). + + Connecton ans Connect the TV set to a 230V/50 60 Hertz outlet. Antennae Connect your antenna or cable system to the VHF/UHF antenna socket. If your TV s equpped wth a pcture-n-pcture tuner (PIP), plug the antenna plug protrudng from above the PIP antenna socket nto the antenna socket for the VHF/UHF tuner. Plug the antenna plug of your antenna or cable system nto the socket of the PIP tuner. If your TV set s equpped wth one or two satellte tuners, connect the SAT antennae to the SAT sockets (see fgure on page 5). Intal nstallaton Automatc programmng of the TV set s started the frst tme you swtch t on. Follow the menus. Frst you have to select the menu language for your set. Then you specfy whch antenna you have connected to your TV and n what country you are usng t. Then you start the staton search. The TV searches for, stores and sorts all the statons whch your antenna system receves. You then see a lst of the stored statons n whch you can mark your favortes. Then you log n your vdeo recorders and connect them as shown n the wrng dagram. Select the settngs wth the arrows on the rng... Then push the cover back on. Note on dsposal of batteres: The orgnal batteres do not contan any pollutants such as cadmum, lead and mercury. Used batteres do not belong n the domestc waste. They must be taken to the approprate collecton ponts accordng to the natonal laws. Ask your dealer. Swtchng on You wll fnd the ON/Off button of the TV behnd the control panel cover. Open the control panel flap. Press the On/Off button so that t snaps n.... confrm the settngs wth. You then move on to the next menu...... press ths button f you want nformaton about the settngs. You can repeat ntal nstallaton at any tme, e.g. after movng house. Call the ndex n the man nformaton ( button). Then select the tem Repeat ntal nstallaton. Then start Intal nstallaton wth. 9
Daly handlng Swtchng on/off Your TV set s equpped wth an eco-standby power supply unt. The power consumpton drops to low power n standby mode. If you want to save even more energy, swtch the set off wth the On/Off swtch. However, please note that PG data are then lost and tmer recordngs programmed on the TV set wll not be carred out. If the TV s swtched on, you can swtch t off wth the blue On/ Off button on the remote control. The red standby LD on the set lghts up. If the green LD also lghts, a tmer recordng s programmed, PG data s beng acqured or rado mode wthout screen dsplay s actve. From standby t s best to swtch back on wth the blue On/Off button or wth a numerc key (staton 0-9). The green operatng LD then lghts up. When you swtch on the TV wth, you see the staton table and can choose a staton. Swtch on n the rado mode. You wll fnd the On/Off button of the TV behnd the control panel cover. None of the ndcators lghts up when you swtch off the TV set wth the On/Off button on the set. Swtch on the TV set wth the On/Off button on the set when t s swtched off. Changng channels Channels up/down (only favorte statons f these are shown n the staton table). Wth the numerc keys on the remote control The set has a dynamc memory wth 220/wth DVB 1470 memory slots. The ndex answers many questons regardng all aspects of the TV. If t s a queston about the operaton, you have drect access to the operatng functon from the ndex. Loewe TV sets are suppled n dfferent models wth dfferent equpment. You can fnd out what equpment your TV has under the menu tem Techncal spec. of the TV set. When you have made all the settngs and connectons, you can swtch over to Smplfed control usng Select ode. Then the Settngs and Connectons can no longer be launched n all modes of operaton menus. Swtch Smplfed control back off when you want to make settngs. Some settngs n the TV menu: Chld lock Use the chld lock f you want to prevent your chldren watchng after a certan tme, once or daly, all or certan programs. On-screen dsplays You can set the duraton and poston of the dsplays and defne the content of the status dsplay. Tmer functons You can have your TV swtch on and off at specfc tmes or have yourself remnded by a sgnal tone. Tme and date When you receve teletext, the TV records the rght date and tme settngs. The tme serves as nformaton for tmer recordngs, tmer functons and PG. If you do not receve teletext you should set the date and tme and not swtch the TV off wth the mans button as the settngs wll then be lost. Language If your menu language s not set, you have to select the Language menu n a language you cannot understand: Press the -button (TV menu), mark the last menu tem (settngs), press the -button and mark the last menu tem (Language) under other.... and press the button. Now select the rght language and confrm wth. 12

After enterng the frst dgt, the tme s dsplayed frst next to the symbol of the green button by astersks and s then replaced by the entered numbers, e.g. 2100. If the entered tme has already passed, ts entry s used for the followng day. Watch a staton or watch a memorzed staton or memorze a staton You memorze the staton marked wth the g h buttons by pressng the -button. The symbol + s placed n front of the ttle of the staton. The TV swtches over to ths staton when t starts. Programmng a VCR recordng You prepare the staton marked wth the g h buttons for recordng by pressng the red button. enu nd Callng detaled nformaton If detaled nformaton about the selected staton s avalable, you wll see the T-button dsplayed addtonally. You can call the detaled nformaton wth ths button. Other functons n the PG menu: Lst of memorzed statons You wll fnd the statons you have memorzed n a lst, also DVB rado statons. Swtch on TV at memo You can have the TV swtched on automatcally from standby at the tme of the memorzed staton. If you are not n at the tme, a safety prompt makes sure the TV swtches off agan after 5 mnutes. Indcate/start memorzed staton If the TV s already on when the memorzed staton starts you can have the start of the staton ndcated or the TV swtched over mmedately. Short nfo lnes Short nfos are broadcast for many programs. Set how many lnes ths nformaton should have or swtch the short nfo lnes off. PG entry If you want to start PG operaton, you can retan your last settngs for topc and program selecton or start wth all topcs and all programs.
odes of operaton PG settngs If you want to change the provder or want to have other programs evaluated, you can do ths n the PG menu. The green LD lghts up n addton to the red LD after about two mnutes. Data acquston takes about one hour, n sets wth a DVB module a lttle longer. The data are automatcally collected between 2 and 5 n the mornng when the TV s swtched off to standby. The VCR s must be connected to the uro AV sockets (Scart) and logged n under the Connectons menu. Dgtal Lnk must be swtched on on the Loewe vdeo recorder. Only then can you use the control bar. You also need Dgtal Lnk for tmer recordngs of satellte programs controlled by the TV set. You can dsplay up to two control bars but they are only dsplayed by logged n VCR s and DVD players. Dgtal Lnk Plus VCRs have the possblty for transferrng the staton data from the TV set to the VCR va the uro-av cable (not for satellte statons). very tme you change the staton memory of the TV, you are asked whether you want to make a data transfer. The recever unt of the VCR s always used for recordng wth a Dgtal Lnk Plus vdeo recorder (not satellte statons) and the tuner of the TV set s avalable for watchng TV. Loewe VCRs also have Dgtal Lnk, a system for controllng Loewe VCRs va the uro-av cable. The TV tuner s used for recordng here. If you have nstalled your Loewe VCR n a concealed place, you can operate the Loewe VCR wth the remote control. Operaton wth the control bar also works wth Dgtal Lnk. These devces can be operated drectly or, n the case of equpment nstalled n a concealed place, by the TV set. In ths case the Dgtal Lnk functon of the VCR must be swtched on. Select the devce to be operated: for VCR: the VTR ndcator on the remote control lghts up... press agan, the DVD ndcator lghts up... press agan, none of the ndcators lghts, the TV s then actvated.
